Garrett Turbo Parts

Well I finally had a piston go down and get sucked through the turbo. One of my reed cages got bent (weird I am not sure how it happened) but it made the PTO side go lean and it melted the piston.

I tore the turbo apart tonight and am trying to find where I can get parts. I need a new turbine wheel. I have found where I can purchase the entire center section but I gotta imagine that you can just get the turbine and shaft somewhere. I have a 2860rs turbo.

From what I understand Garrett has gone away from supplying rebuild parts for the smaller ball bearing turbos and gone to the exchange program. Find a authorized Garrett dealer, send in your center section, they inspect it and send you a new center section. The company I went through had them in stock and back to me in less than a week. I run a 2871 but I cant imagine the 2860 is any harder to come by for them. I payed $377 exchanged.

Shot me a pm if you want contact info.

The sled has 2800 miles on it with 2600 miles on it boosted. I run 7-8 lbs of boost. I changed pistons out this year just to be safe. The piston melt down was caused by a couple of things. First it developed a bad reed cage that became bent in the middle. Second, I had a bellow with a small tear that was creating excess heat on that side. Third I had a day that my boost controller lost power so it was not regulating pressure so I accidentally ran 12 lbs of boost for most of the day and had some detonation.

Anyway, I had Bryce order me a new center section for the turbo and put a new set of pistons in....I already had a spare set of cylinders laying around so I will be back on the snow for the big Memorial day weekend.

wow that is very impressive milage! I usually run a mix of av and change out pistons every 1000 miles or so on a stocker I don't think that buying a turbo would be a whole lot more up keep than what I am doing now. Although what I am doing now is probably overkill for a hopped up stocker.

Have you already paid for your new center section? Do you know that you can just exchange the center section out and not have to buy a new one? Let me know and I can give you some contact info.

If you guys don't mind post the contact info for the companies that can do a center section exchange. I called Bryce fro Turbo Performance and he hooked me up. He ordered a new center section for me so I could get on the snow for the memorial weekend, but I also plan on sending mine messed up one in for exchange so that I have a spare. Bryce can also send them in for exchange.

On a side note....Bryce's Turbo E-tech is looking pretty sweet! It's really got me thinking....

So, the similar thing happened to by brothers turbo xp, and it cost him 380 for to have his center section rebuild with a new turbine wheel. It was a place out of CA, but I can't find the info on them right now. Someone told us that a guy in Orem will do the same thing for about the same price. Try Turbo Labs, in Orem, UT. If no luck let me know and I will track down the shop in CA that we used.

we are a authorized garrett dealer. and can get any thing you need.

yes Garrett has gone to an exchange program. you have to send your center section in and them we send it back and they either fix your or send out another. turn around is about 5-7 days.

the best way i have found is to buy a new center section and then send yours back. this is what utah sledder is doing. no down time then.
