FXR vs KLIM thoughts??

klim stealth gear is as good as it gets but it does come with a price. It is easier to move in and less baggy and bulky. Way ahead of everyone else. As good as it is, I have ripped both my coat and bibs but I am hard on gear. I never ripped my valdez jacket but have ripped every set of pants or bibs that I have had from anybody.

I think most of us that ride hard will damage our riding clothing (gloves, jacket, pants). It's inevitable. I am only 150 lbs but my gloves seem to last only 10 days on the sled at best (regardless of KLIM, Motorfist, or FXR). Not to highjack the thread, but I have had the best luck with Motorfist as they will replace the garment without question. KLIM would not warranty their 6 month old snow pants and suggested going to the shoemaker for repair. Have torn two pairs motorfist gloves and a pair of snow pants and all fixed/replaced without qeustions vs. KLIM stating warranty won't cover something falling apart on a nearly new garment. I am a 'flatlander' new to snowmobiling so others should be much tougher on their gear, yet it doesn't seem to matter which brand I wear, they all get beaten up. Didn't try with the warranty department at FXR so can't comment on that. The advantage I have found in the last year is that one company in particular backs up their product in a tremendous way.

Glad you have had good luck with Motorfirst's warranty. My valkyrie glove fell apart at the seam between the palm and ring finger on the first ride. Sent it for warranty, thinking they would replace the glove. Instead they did a crude stitch job between the soft leather palm and finger. Lasted about 2 weeks of riding and glove went into the garbage.

2ND pair of FXR boots and they leak water badly. I was completely done with them but i spoke with the rep at the booth at Hay Days and he admitted the older models were bad but swore up and down that I'd NEVER have an issue with the latest and greatest. They suck just as bad as the old ones. Shame on me for the second time

Sounds like maybe your KLIM pants were ripped / torn, which of course wouldn't covered under warranty. You are very lucky to have your torn motorfist glover covered under warranty. If they really were torn, they shouldn't have been covered. Really, why would you expect something to be torn to be covered under warranty?

And gloves lasting only 10 days? What you talking about Willis...haha

You are correct; riding hard causes damage to gear. This damage is not covered under warranty.

I have had great warranty service from KLIM. My 6 year old snow pants were leaking in the "arss," replaced/covered. The stitching on my "squeegee" on my old, outdated gloves was covered.

Nice seeing that KLIM has updated their colors on the coats this season!

bobback - The snap pulled through the pants:face-icon-small-sho. They weren't ripped/torn in any way other than the snap simply pulled through the material on the leg after two snowmobile trips (4 days total on the snow with those pants). Most would interpret this as poor stitching as you did with your damaged garment in your post. It appeared to be a manufacturer defect as everything else was fine and they were pristine otherwise without any signs of use, rips ,tears, damage near the snap, etc. Maybe your dealer is more supportive. If it's unreasonable to expect that a pair of $350+ snow pants last for more than 4 days of light use before snaps start pulling out, then this would confirm I made the wrong choice when I purchased their product.

With Motorfist you would be accurate in your statement that I was lucky they backed up their warranty IF it was a one time occurrence. However, they have replaced three items, and only one of those was clearly related to a manufacturer defect. All were replaced without question. The dealer even offered an in store replacement so that I would have something for my next trip. I don't think this is purely luck after three different encounters with their dealer/warranty department.

KLIM makes a good product also, based on my handful of experiences there is a notable difference in warranty.

Moving back to the KLIM/FXR discussion....

Im sorry but if its not gore tex or event its garbage. Had my fxr jacket freeze solid on a ride out off the mountain. Had to put a fleece javket on for warmth and use the ice block for wind protection. Went to motor fist and ill never buy anything but motor fist (or klim) but had to be event! I got their wot gloves, thought they would be event! Not just "waterproof fabric" they get soaked so easy, junk. I was going to get klim powerxross gloves but they didnt have my size.

We likely have your size in stock in those powerxross gloves! Also looks like Motorfist has been working on that glove and will have that fixed this year

KLIM POWERXROSS GLOVE <<<<<<<<

Bought some Klim boots and while the quality is great I wasn't impressed with their warmth compared to my old Sorels. The Sorels aren't fashion statements but they are cheaper and a lot warmer.

Also have some Klim mitts and those are warm and quality. Don't wear those for riding though. Just bought some FXR lobster claw gloves and their helmet so will see about them....

As for the poster who washes his stuff - you can do that?:face-icon-small-hap

Anybody try Tobe?

If people are making comments about their experiences please post what model of product you are using. There have been so many improvements in the last few years along with carrying multiple lines for each manufacturer that saying generic statements regarding a brand doesn't necessarily give much insight without the details.

I've been looking at the Fxr Tactic air mountain jacket and possibly the mission jacket both for mountain riding in the west, anybody have experience with these staying dry, comfortable and durability?
