Fried Dobeck box. Buy new one or switch to PC V, BD, or ???

BigAir,
I'd be happy to answer any questions that you have regarding the PCV for your TM1000.
Noteworthy is our new line of PCV-PTi release 2 years ago for Arctic Cat and Polaris 2 Stroke boosted applications is elevation compensating. This new unit will fuel your machine per pound of boost whether you're at sea level and no boost, or 10000 feet and 15 PSI of boost, or anywhere in between. It will follow this change in elevation and air pressure adjusting its fuel addition, thus pairing more effectively with what the ECU would have it do. This compensation feature will eliminate the need to adjust the boost fuel mapping while in the field.
This means no more messing with buttons as you ride from the truck up into the high country - the PCV does it all for you. Plus, with true ability to subtract up to -100% fuel (or add +250%), you can leave the fuel pressure at stock level coupling a 1:1 on top of that, so the injectors have plenty of duty cycle left for boost fuel. Often times, this results in only requiring the single set of factory injectors up to ~10PSI of boost eliminating troublesome transition points.
For those familiar with PCV tuning software, the fuel table for boost can be all Zeros - making tuning a breeze for every customer - as we are already adding the proper theoretical amount of fuel without you having to tune the machine.

A Price for this unit??? $499 complete with PCV and all sensors required.
Any and All optional accessories are available as well to pair with this PCV.

I am not sure what psi the injector turn on.. We run a fuel pressure at 38-40 and 10 lbs of boost.. A few stubbles when the fp was lower.. Raised it up a bit and it was good. I have a boost it on my sled and it has been a good box too.
I don't know how you guys are able to run your fuel pressure that high. Ken told me to run 30 lbs. I tried running 34 lbs and the sled bogged so bad off the bottom it would barely get moving. Must just be the elevation difference and/or the different charge tube and air box designs. I ride 8-10k feet. I assume you guys are lower?

I have power to both power wires at the box. I have continuity on the ground wire from right next to the box to my ring terminal on the end. I tried touching the ground wire to different points on the chassis. Am I missing something or does that mean that I can't have a power or ground issue? Would it make any difference if I tried grounding to the engine instead of the chassis?

Yes, both the power wires have 24 volts and Dobeck says that is what they are suppose to have.

I used to have an attitude box on my 13 800 running 10 to 11 pounds of boost and I had a custom map put in it and tuned by attitude for 2 days on the mountain. I thought it ran pretty good until I rode for a few day's with Kevin from mmsports in southern Idaho. He didn't like the way it ran and asked if it would be ok to put a boondocker box on it. I was hesitant to do it because I didn't want to keep dumping money into the turbo. I asked him if I didn't think it was worth the money if we could take it back off and I wouldn't owe him anything. He said OK and the boondocker box is still on my sled. We went for a ride and he did a little additional tuning and holy crap is all I can say. The sled is a whole new animal now. Since then he has done another customers sled that is almost identical to mine, that never quite ran right. That customer left there very happy also.

Anyone done this on a 09 or newer M1000? ISO of stock ECU

I know Jeff has put a Vipec on at least one 1000 turbo. Might have done more, I didn't ask. Just saw him dialing one in when I was there a while back. I think he changes the wiring harness to an 800 harness and then does a little wiring from there.

dobeck blows

I recommend going with another brand. Anything but Dobwreck. I have no experience with any other brand so I can't recommend.

Check the main chassis ground below coolant bottle inside of bulkhead, could be broken or loose. These sleds only have one ground to chassis from main harness. Your box could have good ground to chassis but if rest of electrical system isn't grounded properly it creates all kinds of grief with sled still able to run. If ground is bad it could also be the cause of your previous troubles with tuning the sled. Seen this numerous times and not just on a turbo sled.

I have already tried running a jumper wire from my Dobeck chassis ground to the engine. Would that eliminate the chance of that being the problem or not? Either way I will check the main chassis ground. Thanks spoon.

Harness is only grounded at one point to chassis. Stator is grounded to engine block but both connections need to be good to make all work properly. Dobeck box power comes from harness and poor ground will still give voltage but under load voltage will drop causing major issues.

So keep in mind the m1000 needs deceleration fuel. The dobec and the boondockers box do add the decal fuel. The boost it doesn't have a function to add decel fuel. I am not sure about the pcv or the vipec..

Polarisrocks,
The PCV is able to perform the accel/decel fueling. In fact, customers can choose to add or subtract fuel AND choose whether you perform the fueling change when letting off the throttle (negative delta) OR giving the sled more throttle (positive delta). So you can add fuel when letting off, or subtract fuel when cobbing the flipper -- Or vise versa.

Another method that is visible directly in the Power Commander interface is to place positive fuel addition numbers in the Low %TP area/High RPM range of the map corresponding to Decel thus adding the fuel required.

For decel fuel on the Dobeck box, is that just a function of the fuel the green mode is adding?

So I ran a secondary ground wire from an exhaust stud to the chassis. The box still did not turn on. Can I reasonably assume my box is fried now or is there anything else I need to try?

I reached in and felt the existing chassis ground. It feels tight and connected. It is not easy to get to. Maybe I should just pull my fuel tank and check it right.

The stator ground visually looks connected. What is the easiest way to check it? Pull the center belly pan I am guessing?

Working on the sled in a 10 degree shop is not a lot of fun, so any suggestions on short cuts are greatly appreciated.

Did you try pulling the box and putting 12 v directly to the connector and see if it powers up?

That's how I adjust my settings in the garage so I don't need to start sled.

No, I haven't wanted to pull the box until I was certain it wasn't just a wiring issue. The way I have the wiring ran and connected doesn't make it easy to remove. I guess I am at the point where I might as well just jerk it off the sled.

I think you already tried this, but how about checking the continuity of the wires from very end of connectors to the closest you can at the box.

He removed the box and yes it was bad. For some reason it does not power up. The controller was build in the fall of 2007 so it lasted for almost 7 years. I will be replacing the board for him and at cost of $60.00.

I just wanted to give everyone a follow up on what we came up with.

Thanks,
Shover
