Forum Expert 9R review

Always wondered....when you guys down in the states have videos like that sidehilling through the trees seemingly endlessly (ala Burandt, or Chadly/expert video above)....are you going somewhere (upper bowl, alpine lake, over a ridge, etc)....or is that the ride? To find a slope and sidehill through the trees all day?

Genuine question...although I realize it sounds smartazz. Just seems popular down there and not so much up here
I agree with your observation usually tree riding is the ride more so for guys in the states when I go with the Canadiens it’s more destination oriented riding aka get to the alpine weather permitting. If I was only riding with the Canadiens a 165 Doo turbo would be my choice.
If you try to follow along with top American riders on that sled you won’t have much fun.

I don't get to pick the snow. But yes, that snow you only need a 650 in.
You need to be ready to ride in 5 minutes in the PNW. Good snow is short lived.

Or just drive elsewhere.

Then you can pick the snow ?

Tight trees are fun, drainages are fun, cliffs and benches are fun.

Mostly deep snow and sun.

Anything that doesn’t include those typically doesn’t get ridden by our group.

So much area available to ride in AK that weather and snow can steer us 4 hours south or 5 hours north and ride interior snow, coastal, high country, trees all in sequential days.

I pretty much only ride trees. I don't hit open bowls. I like the feeling of knowing you can total your junk at any given time. I find big open bowls boring. Likewise for just going straight up. To each their own.

One thing I truly appreciate from the muskoka videos is they try to go wherever they want. I absolutely love the idea of just picking a path towards a ridge line and just going. It reminds me of hunting. I tried it twice. Got about half mile back and spent the day digging both times lol. Someday! I love how those guys come ripping up top of some place with untracked snow just glitter and magic then proceed to just trash it lol. I can honestly say I’ve yet to see deep untracked snow like that. Never experienced the effortless floating feel. Been more like a little here a little there oh crap to fast of crap to slow oh ****e rock oh ****e log! Maybe this weekend! Snow forecast all week! One thing I allways wonder. You see these guys wide open in deep snow for a long time. I wonder what the physical speed is. Is it 45-50 or is it 15? Lol seriously ? Cause iam the only honest guy who thinks these things are freaking fast. Maybe I’ll buy a 9r put a wrap on it and hang on the trail having refreshments . Should I get a short or a long track? Lol

You buy 2 and just stay in the parking area. Occasional rip around the immediate area. [emoji23]

Some areas we ride sidehilling through the trees for a distance is required to get up and out of the drainage and is just in route and part of the ride ride.

Great question. You are white privileged to have much better country to ride is the real answer. Not to mention, Canadiens love to smoke weed and go full nuke on the mountains. Another reason why extra fuel is needed in your area and not down here.

Clearly not a good rider, now that is funny coming from you! The guy is a top tier elite mountain rider that most of us could not even start to hand with if he wanted to drop us!
That was pure sarcasm on my part. Obviously he's a great rider; I don't watch too many pro riders, so I can't begin to rank him, other than to say he's probably better than anyone I've ever rode with (although I think a few of you guys could keep up with him) and definitely better than I could ever hope to be. Just giving Chilly a hard time is all!

In the deep, deep powder I've had times where the 45mph track speed was moving me at about 10mph. Just floating and steering with my feet.

Other times there's a skiff of powder with decently setup snow underneath and the 45mph track speed means 35mph ground speed.

So basically it all depends on the snow conditions.

We are not compatible but come up an anyway.

For the world class riding.

This place here is a commie $hit hole as well.
Yeah Washington state is pretty terrible.

2 sisters families and my parents live there.

It’s like getting a cheese grater run across your psyche every time you visit the place.

(They are in a conservative area so it’s just the entering and leaving)

I think I’ll stick with AK.
