you do realize that not everyone can be rich right? And what is wrong with making the rich pay more in taxes? Is it going to kill the wealthy that they can only have 2 houses instead of the 3rd condo in Florida? I guess when there are poor kids out on the street begging for food you wouldn't give the "peasants" anything because you pay enough in taxes as it is.

If I was making 5 million dollars a year I would gladly pay 2.5million in taxes. Sure, I lose some of my buying power, but I would gladly pay to keep the institution which has allowed me to become so successful running and to pay for the soldiers who keep me safe every day and those less fortunate than I am.

Yes of course the rich could pay more but that’s a liberal smoke screen. They could pay double what they now pay and it wouldn’t make any difference. The more they tax the more the government spends, it’s a simple as that.

It’s easy to target those who you feel you can’t compete with. I can assure you if the rich paying twice as much as they do now would really make a difference, I would be all for it but, one thing I have learned from my life time of watching how our government works is... if you send them money they WILL spend it. Do you really think that if you put the screws to the rich that this country would be better off? If so, you don’t understand. They would simply take their knowledge, business sense and jobs to another country and thrive there, and vacation here! Wake up.

This has been fun, but I’m now going to leave this discussion and go fishing for the next 5 days. I was once young, worked hard and now I don’t have to, and can go fishing or sledding when ever I want to. If you can’t figure out how to be in my position, then maybe you need to rethink your views on how things really work in business and government in this country. I could probably teach a couple of you guys in this thread a thing or two, but I suspect you’re to young to understand or listen. You think you have it all figured out. I remember those days. Peace out! LOL

Sorry, but none of us are interested in learning about how give a good bj.

Good luck on your fishing trip. If fish could spell and they misspelled, would you still eat it?

Something for you to ponder about while you are fisching.

Says the man that doesn't make that much money? Didn't I call you out before for making those types of statements?

what? Where did I ever say I made 5 million? I have clearly stated on this very thread I am a college student so obviously I do not make that much, I said IF.

and Oregon, that is good for you. After I finish college and have a couple of years at work I too will hopefully be in a great position such as that I can go travel at my leisure. At age 59 I would hope that you could teach me something or other, and I will gladly listen to anything you have to say.

But what I said isn't a smokescreen and I agree that while it does not make a difference currently(16T in debt) in order to balance the budget we will need to get a new tax system. I think a flat tax for all incomes is necessary so EVERYONE pays their fair share, but hey that's just me.

I understand what you make, though I think you missed the point I was making..

If you cannot understand the 2 points made here, I don't think you have the capacity to ever comprehend it.

What this country needs is another major fiscal conservative. The reganomics type that will shrink the govt and keep taxes tolerable.

The part of the tax system that boggles my mind is the single mother that pays in almost nothing then gets a $5000 return. You shouldn't be able to get back money that was never put in in the first place.

Huh? how is that possible? Do you mean through an income tax you can get more back than you put in? Or do you mean that through welfare and things of that nature you can get more?

I was waiting for someone to bring in the god himself and the idea of Reagonomics into this conversation because he was so conservative that he raised around 137 Billion dollars in additional tax revenue over his term by raising taxes. That should certainly help with the deficit for sure. it is all there if you take the time to read and are interested in facts.

<O:p</O:pOH but we are not suppose to raise taxes because the job creators wont create jobs and take their knowledge and business sense and take jobs overseas and thrive in other countries OH but isn’t that is happening now when the tax rates are the lowest since 1988 unless you go back to 1910? the Tax rates really only haven risen from 28% in the late 80’s to currently 35% so we are certainly bleeding the top earners in the country dry.

<O:p</O:pI still don’t hate the wealthy in this country. if you want me to believe that all of us in the country can be rich if we just work a little harder and also taking into account the very fundamental notion that not everyone one can be rich because money would not mean anything, the playing field needs to be a little more level then it has been in this country. just sayin

Oh maybe you are just tryiny to keep this debate going by saying things that are known to spark a lively debate hmm i wonder.<O:p</O:p

I know no one is arguing against the first point there. No one hates the rich here. Most all of us work hard and would like to be there someday.

The second point.. maybe some, but as competition decreases, new business owners will fill the void. There are still a lot of people working hard to better themselves these days, besides rich people. Wouldn't all the rich people leaving open up new opportunities for a lot of people?

What if ...

Every man, woman, child and corp paid a flat 10 percent
- no deductions for owning a home, kids, medical expenses, students or hybrid cars (these are choices)
- no more subsidies for any businesses
(half this country pays nothing, it is time everyone has skin in the game)

The president and congress should have two responsibilties
- keep us safe and balance the budget
- no other laws can be passed til the above is done

The government should get out of the garunteed student loan business.
- colleges raise tuition every year because they know the money is garunteed
- no more public funding for useless degrees in underwater basket weaving or video gaming

The people that showed up and wanted to work.
- Could read and write
- Weren't covered in ink and had extra holes drilled in their heads

Just my rant, hope you guys get everything solved tonight

A

Two points I'd like to make. Regan did raise total tax dollars. But those tax dollars were spent on defense spending. The fed was actually at its smallest size in terms of federal employees and govt programs. Clinton caused the fed to explode in size nearly tripling it in size. All while cutting defense spending.

Also I have no idea how that is possible to get that return without paying in but my buddies exgf doesn't work hardly at all and he said that he knows for a fact that she gets a huge $5-8k return every year.

Buddies girlfriend? Most of the time large returns are due to improper scheduling of taxes on your W-2. Ideally everyone should net 0 come tax day. If you get a lot of money back from the govt all it means is your overpaid your taxes throughout the year.

Earned Income Tax Credit, deduct a couple kids, little home mortgage interest
pretty easy to get that much back.
