First Ride Problems

hearing about issues right off the bat on the new G5 makes me eye that perfectly running, low mileage '22 turbo sitting in the garage in terms of keeping it for another year as opposed to picking up my snowcheck and the potential for season shortening/ending parts availability issues. damn.

me too, man I have a bad feeling about this....first year stuff from doo never usually works out!

yep, i was on the fence on snowchecking this year and that was one of the reasons and would have no problem keeping the current turbo, i love that sled.
not quite as excited to pick up the new sled but still need more info to see if this is systemic or not. if so, and it's a parts issue and not a simple software update then that throws a wrench into the plans. hopefully this is the only issue.

I can’t speak for the 850 but if you have a turbo on order I would keep it. Way more power and I haven’t heard of issues running its just a fluke code. Check this morning no codes on my sled the light comes on between 4700-5400 rpm. My guess is a sensor or wiring issue.

Same with mine, I checked for codes and there was nothing. Something I do find odd is that Skidoo does not list a knock/noise sensor for all the turbos(I checked back to 21'), they show it on the diagrams but nothing on the parts list....

Do you know what that sensor monitors?

Probably a code set off by running so much fuel for the early stages of break-in. Those RPM's that you see this are pretty close to the tranition point where the second set of injectors chime in.
if that's the case then one wonders how does doo not see this in all their testing prior to release.

interesting to hear "way more power". that extra 15 makes that big of a difference? what's your assessment of how it handles compared to a G4?

Iv rode a 21 turbo for the last 2 seasons, and the extra power is defiantly noticeable on these compared to the g4, throttle response is quicker too.

We didn't get to far off the trail so I cant really comment on handling. But first the feels were much narrower and more nimble than g4's

The Doo is lighter and that is going to make it feel more powerful on top of the 15 HP. We have been saying this for years about the Polaris. Now Doo is doing a good job of shedding the fat.

It’s super snappy I’ve rode stage 3 bikeman tunes on factory turbos and I’d say the top end is just as powerful on the g5 turbo and the bottom end is way stronger.

The g5 seems to have less gap between the bottom end and where the turbo kicks on any sled I’ve ridden if that makes sense.

Was riding a 2021 freeride turbo and 2023 expert turbo Saturday . Both stock 165’s. 2021 already felt old and heavy.

The 2023 is smoother on power than any sled I’ve ever ridden with the exception of a ibackshift 850 na.

Nice feedback. What about putting an ibackshift in a 2023? I have brand new kit that didn’t make it into my 2021 and I’m not sure if I should put it in the 2023 or just leave her stock.

Definitely put that kit in. One of the best mods you can do but contact Joey to see if that kit will work in a ‘23.

that’s high praise. I was impressed with the performance of the turbo over the n/a so if the G5 turbos are significantly better then that’s saying something. only downside is that every sled I buy from here on out will be pricier because there’s no going back to an n/a sled.
