Feedback on wide Simmons...

TIA for a little feedback on those of you who have changed out your Pilots for the Simmons wide ski. Seems like a great addition to an XP...and a heavy boy like me but wondering if there are issues? Thanks, Goose

cant imagine sidehilling with them. However should get decent lift with them in the fluff.

We have 1 XP in our group with them. I've only rode it a few times, and they seem to do real good in the powder. They float like no other. They do as good as anything on the trails also. The only downside that I saw with them, is when your going through tight trees, that extra 3" really seems to get in the way sometimes. I can't remember, but I think they weigh about 8 or 9lbs more than the stockers also. All in all, there a very good ski, and I was impressed with them.

I was looking at getting a pair of them for my ZX mod. If they float near as good as everyones saying, it would be worth it to any bigger rider! Oh, my ZX has a 37" ski stance so width isn't a problem. I heard some people are cutting the outside of the ski off to make them the width of a gen I, but leaving the inside for flotation, like the old Ski-Doo Mountain skis.

Why buy the lightest sled on the market only to add 6-8lbs with these skis? I know that they are new and cool but aren't these designed with the Apex in mind?

That's my thinking too! I can't stand to add weight to my sled. I would have the Gen II's if they weighed the same as the pilots. But there is no way I'm adding 8-10 lbs to my XP.

Apparently twice the weight of the regular Simmons which is a little more than our Pilots. I would think someone would make a wing to bolt to the inside of our Pilots...and extend inside. Might even be able to work up some heavier plastic sheeting and form it to bolt under the inside of the ski. Get float and no trailer issues...and no sidehill issues in packed snow. Thanks for feedback all. Goose

This is basically how Simmons started their testing, only with their own ski instead of pilots. They found it worked better on both sides and hence the birth of the Gen II ski.
