F-150 ecoboost

In order to get the 11300 lb tow rating you must get the 3.73 rear end. (3.55= 7700 lb) Then you should get the Max Tow Package which includes tow, mirrors, upgraded rear bumper, class 4 hitch, 7 pin connector, upgraded radiator, trans cooler, brake controller and select shift transmission. Then if you get the 36 gallon tank it should be a great option to a diesel for towing sleds, ditrbikes, quads, side by sides, boats and small campers. I believe this pick up could safely handle a trailer weighing 7500 lbs. Most states require trailer brakes for trailers over 3000 lbs. So towing a trailer with properly working trailer brakes weighing the same as the tow vehicle wouldnt scare me.

If your wanting to make your current ride last longer DON'T drive one, they are one sweet truck. I hear they are getting around twelve towing 5000#'s. What size tank does the 2011 have?

Stupid me... Just went and drove one... :D.

So I can't find an Ecoboost with 3.73 gears around here. How would the Ecoboost do with the 3.55 rear end?

Do? compared to what? I have a 2008 5.4 4x4 w/ 3.73's. I spec'd it out a while back and the newer 6 speed makes a huge difference, enough to fill the gap in rear end gearing. With the 3.55's, the gearing is actually lower on the bottom and higher on top compared to what I have. Unless you are regularly towing heavy trailers, I think the 3.55 would be a better choice. From what I have read, the mileage tends to be more consistent across different trucks with the 3.55. The 3.73's seemed to be hit or miss for good mileage.

Thanks Buster for the info. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm pulling my trailer with one sunday! Can'twait.

I don't wanna hear about how you HAD to buy a new truck this year. :face-icon-small-ton

LMAO! It's true though... My accountant said it would save me $6000 in taxes on the business if I did it. :D

I want somone to come pull my trailer for me with their eco boost and prove to me they are getting 12 mpg pullin ga 5,000-lb trailer.

Maybe if it's a low-boy hauling cinder blocks that picks up no wind, but I am calling total BS on pulling a big wind-sail camp trailer at that mileage, I don't care how awesome the motor is.

Note: I'm not denying that its an awesome motor and I think conceptually its the way to go, in fact I might even be in the market for one .... but seriously, people need to get real about mileage. Really.

I agree, it is the same as the people that claim the ridiculous mpg numbers on diesels. I must have gotten the worst diesel in the world because I have never come close to the mpg numbers people claimed when I asked around before buying mine...unless you go off what the truck's computer says. Then I am getting 20-22mpg empty and 13-15 towing 7000 lbs.

Me three. I just got a new Dodge hemi partly because of the mileage claims I read about. Well mine doesn't get near the mileage I heard about. Neither did my diesel that I just recently sold. But I know the diesel was better than this hemi just not near as good as claimed. I think people look at that stupid real time mileage monitor and while coasting up to the stop sign look down and wow I'm getting thirty miles to the gallon!

that and they are dumb! I went up with my truck and trailer with a friend and when we got back filled up, with pen and paper figured I got 11.8 mpg told him he owed x amount.
he said his truck and trailer never gets less then 25 mpg pulling his two place inclosed! yea f-ing right! 02 ferd 7.3 psd with a tuner set on 150hp he has never figured it on paper just the overhead mpg display. the round trip was in the 350 mile range, i asked so you can do that trip in one tank (ford short bed 26 gal or so) i got the deer in the headlights look! I said you should have a 600+ mile range.

Anybody bought a fx4 ecoboost? How about pulling a trailer a 8000 ft ? I would hope to get around 8-10 pulling three place enclosed and 17-19 empty I would be happy with that without struggling along at elevation. I have had diesels 8-11 pulling same trailer depending on conditions and speed.

Ok... My dealer just dropped off an EB at my house for me to "demo" and do what I like with it for a week. This one has the 3.55 gear ratio so I was sceptical on how it would pull my steel enclosed trailer loaded with 4 sleds. The trailer weighs around 7000 lbs full.

The truck had no problem getting up to speed and if I hammered on the gas it would break the wheels loose. When I got to the interstate I accelerated and was up to 75 and still on the ramp.

It held overdrive ok but still had to down shift to 5th when I turned to face the 30 MPH winds we had today. I used the manual shift and the transmission would not donwshift and just stay in whatever gear I chose. I liked that feature. I was able to use cruise control with no problem when in 5th gear driving 70 MPH the tach read 2200 rpm. 6th gear dropped the tach to 1800.

I put on 100 miles just driving every speed zone and going into the wind and then with the wind. Also pulled some hills to check power.

I ended up with 9.0 MPG. I could see it getting better in better conditions and after the engine breaks in. It only has 400 miles on it right now.

My current truck is a 2004 chevy 2500 with 6.0L and 3.73 gears. It struggles to accelerate and hold gears and gets around 6.0 MPG pulling my trailer in these conditions.

I was pleasantly suprised with the power and interior of the EB and would like to own one so far. I will do some fuel mileage runs this week without the trailer to see how she does.

Thats what I was wanting to here 9mpgs is not bad most diesels don't get any better when I pay for the fuel ha ha. I have always been gm went to dodge diesel chasing mpgs. Getting rid of dodge looking at eco test drove a few still on the fence. I will order one with stuff I want on it. How long is the wheel base on the one you are test driving? Max tow? Thanks in advance

Sounds like this is the perfect truck for us snowmobilers who pull less than 5000 miles/year.

The wheel base is 145" with the 5 1/2 foot box. It is not a max tow. Just an XLT.

I agree with you Mafesto. For the 5% of the time that I will be towing sleds I think this will work.

I am still on the fence on the box size though. The box on the truck I'm driving is pretty small but if I go with a longer box the truck look like a freight train. I am doing some measuring to see if a sled will fit in this little box and just rest on the tailgate and still pull my trailer. It will be close.

I do love the back seat leg room. That back seat area is crazy big.

I've got a 162" sled and a 6'-1/2 box on my Eco, it sets in there nice.

Depending on your sled that would be alot hanging out on a 5'-1/2 box. The longer 157" wheelbase does ride a bit better. Have your dealer check around cause he should be able to dealer trade what you want. Does that truck have a brake controller?

I told em what I wanted and they found it at a dealer 250 miles away, I had it the next day, Max tow, Off Road, 6'-1/2 box, Lariat.

I just got back from a trip 150 miles away so I ended up putting on 300 plus miles today. I drove on two lane roads with 55 limits and drove at around 68 having to pass slower cars and slow down for small towns. At the end of the trip I topped off the tank and figured out my mileage (not trusting the MPG gauge in the dash). I got 20.4 MPG in the "demo" I am driving this week. The gauge in the dash read 20.1 after the trip.

My truck should be here next week.

The ecoboost is really appealing. I'm going to get rid of the diesel soon and it's either the ecoboost or a Tundra. I like the mileage of the Ford but it's a Ford, not a Toyota. Heard Toyota is coming out with a direct injection, more power, better mileage.

The Eco is direct injected... Sounds like the Toy is a little behind the power ball. JMHO
