F-150 ecoboost

Heck, we don't get much better than that with a duramax!

Sounds like this is the real thing!

Miko - tell us more, like did you get the max tow package with 3.73 gears, stock tire size, length of bed. Also, was there headwind and did the truck manage to pull 75 even up hills (sherman pass and Centennial/greenrock excluded). What kind of RPM did you see when the engine was working at max trying to maintain 75?

Thanks.

From the looks of the small mirrors, I'm guessing no "Max Tow". He could have the 3.73's I guess. The bed is the 5.5'er.

That is impressive for the "small" motor and a shorter wheelbase (145").

On post 145 of this thread I listed what I had. I guessed eveyone should have read that but I guess not if you just go to the last page....sorry.

I did not get the max tow and it only has the 3.55 gears. I demo'd an e boost for a week with 3.55 gears and liked it so I decided to go with it for the fuel mileage when I'm not pulling. I upgraded tires right away for the side wall support and I'm glad I did.

I was able to set the cruise at 75 MPH and just let her go. The truck dropped out of overdrive on longer hills and at times when I had a headwind. Even when it dropped into 5th it only ran 2400 RPM and the instant fuel reading dropped only .25 MPG. On 2 lane roads the truck worked with diesel-like power when I wanted to pass a slower car it was able to in a very short stretch. It never sounded or acted like it was stuggling and lacking power.

I am WAY more impressed with the power than the mileage. My mileage isn't exactly what I was hearing I would get but then again I did have 5 guys, 5 sleds and all the gear of an extra guy. I normally just travel with 4.

I keep hearing very good reports on these ecoboosts. Makes me really think that in the next year or two we will see the eco or a larger version of the eco rolled out into other models like the F250, not to mention other manufacturers have to be taking notes and will up the ante in this market.

I completely agree!

they should just make a 1/2 ton diesel and call it good. 4 or 6 cylinder turbo with 200-300 hp and 450-600 ft/lbs torque. i could get good mileage and still pull my 10000lb camper halfways decent.

Like miko says, you just set the cruise and it doesn't try to maintain 75-80 mph, it just stays at whatever you set it at.

"I drove mine 2200 total miles last month pulling a 20' 4-place open trailer.

On the way out to Colorado we had 2 sleds on it. We ran the 2 sleds nose to tail so we didn't push as much wind. It was raining for several hundred miles,( ya rain...whats up with that in December? ) so I locked it into 4-wheel drive off and on. We drove into a strong headwind. Ran it at 75-80 MPH. Drove all night so there was no traffic to deal with. About 9 MPG for the first half of the trip.

Dry roads on the way home. 3 sleds on the trailer. Left the trailhead at 7:00PM Saturday night and got home at 9:30AM Sunday morning. 1020 miles in 14.5 hours with a slight tailwind. A couple stops for eats, driving 75-80 MPH.

At the end of the trip: about 10.3 MPG over the whole 2200 miles.

2 points: I'm running larger E-rated tires 285/70/17 BFG ATs & 3.73s with the MaxTow.

At 75 MPH the truck is turning 2000 RPM."

This truck is power when loaded and mileage when empty.

woohoo!!

I finally got to where I could order my ecoboost yesterday.:face-icon-small-hap I went with a Lariat because I wanted the heavy duty payload package. Which includes 17" seven lug wheels, heavy duty frame and shocks, 72 amp battery, upgraded springs, radiator, aux tranny cooler, 9.75" ring gear and LT tires. Increases payload to 8200 GVWR for increased payload and towing. Along with the max trailer tow package and 157" wheel base. I got every option except navigation. From what I've heard this pick up is pretty impressive. This pickup could be called a F200 5\8 ton.:face-icon-small-win

Just for kicks we built a F 250 PS to see what the difference would be. The f250 was rated 3K more in tow capacity, about 1700 more payload, but the PS had nearly twice the torque. It also was 8K more in price. For maybe a few more MPG and 75 cents a gallon more fuel cost I'll pass.

For what I tow the F150 will do me just fine.

Sounds like a nice package, I was going to go the same route. Decided to go the 7700 payload package because of more aftermarket wheel options, 6 lug wheels. I went to a 17" wheel with the BFG All Terrains / E rated 285/70/17.

You are going to enjoy your truck with your set-up.

Love the eco

Have 2011 Eco with 25 k on it and no issues. Pull a 7x29 aluminum stealth. Have done 3 trips to Cooke and averaged mid 9's and we by no means stay within the suggested stat speed limits. I have airbags which really make it ride nice with the weight. Totally impressed with ride, size of cab, very quiet and economy.

12 weeks later my pickup finally arrives.

I got the call last Friday that it finally was at the dealer. Longest wait for a vehicle I have had. I've put on five hundred miles since then and have had a huge grin every mile. Well worth the wait.:face-icon-small-hap

Well, after all the comments in this thread I finally went down and took one of the new Ecoboosts out for a test drive.

I was very surprised at what a nice drive it is!

I could easily see myself trading in my F250 and downsizing to one of these instead.

7 lug wheels? Strange.. Nice truck!

I work at a ford dealer as a parts manager and looked in the parts list and there's no such thing as a 7 lug wheels. Asked sales about it also and they never heard of that. Ford did that back in the late 98-99 and called it a 7700GVW f-150 and that was the main difference 17" 7 lug rims with a bigger payload.

new body style......

A 5.0 V8 based ecoboost in the F250 sure sounds like a good idea to me.

Typical Ford dearler. It is right in the F-150 brochure and they don't even know its an option. I had to learn my dealer up on it to. You can only get the "heavy duty payload package" with 7 lug wheels in certain trim packages. Lariat on down I think. In 98-99 it was badged a F-250.

First trip pulling

Hooked onto the camp trailer last night and made the 110 mile trip to go camping. I have 4K miles now and the mpg wasn't stellar but I expected it would be around 10 and it was 9.7. And that number is calculated where the trip computer showed 8.9 mpg. We had a strong side wind at first and then a strong 25 mph head wind for 75 miles. The truck pulled exceptionally well for a half ton V6 turbo. The tranny shifted down to 4th twice on bigger hills but most of the time it was in 5 at 2000 rpm. Hardly noticed I was pulling anything compared to the old 5.3L Silverado I used to use for the same trailer and route. It would shift between gears and turn 4K rpm most of the time.

To say I'm happy with this new pick up of mine would be a gross under statement. Very glad I went with the tow mirrors, heavy duty payload package and long 157" wheelbase. I'm consistently getting 21 mpg empty on the hi-way at 70 mph. The 36 gal tank makes for long distances between leg stretches but the comfy seats do help.
