It is the Max Tow w/ 3.73's. Max payload for the '11 Max Tow is 1880 lbs I believe. For 2012 you can add a Max Payload pkg increasing it to 2200 lbs(I will be putting those springs under mine when available, along with the '12 36 gallon tank). All my mileage is hand calculated and the computer is actually pretty close (normally .5 MPG optimistic) w/ stock tires correctly inflated. I think the 3.55'ers are getting closer to the upper teen low 20 mpg and i would bet the guys w/ 3.31's are loving the mpg. Towing was important for me so I opted for the Max Tow and it's 3.73's. The 5.0 is sweet sounding and makes great power and I heavily considered it, but in the end the increased tow rating, payload and unbelievable low end torque of the eco got me.
Oh that means all the money to buy it stays there too..... Nice reason. Boost Japans economy. Good reason. I know I know some of Ford, Chevy and Dodges parts are made in Mexico and Canada. In the end the money comes back here. I much rather pay to employ some of our northern border friends than fuel the Japanese government that would turn on the U.S.A. in a second.
I do not deny the Japanese have quailty vehicles. They do. But now more than ever we as Americans must rebuild our economy. Not someone elses. Be American! Buy American!
I do not want this thread to turn into a pissing match over being American. It just gets under my skin when people think they are buying American products and supporting America by buying something owned by a foriegn country. I am guilty of doing it too. It is hard not too, but you will never see a foriegn vehicle in my drive way. That is one thing I have control over choosing where it is from.
BTW Toyotas are not build in the U.S.A.. They are assembeled here with parts built in Japan.
GM, Ford, and Chrysler are all huge multi-national corporations. Your money stays in America no more when you buy a Dodge that's built in Mexico than if you buy a Toyota.
I'm hung up on the transmission thing now because I like to keep my trucks a long time, like 10 years or more.
So the transmission has lifetime oil and there is no dipstick - I'm thinking that can't be good for transmission life but let's hear what everyone else thinks.
This is a transmission that has potential to be towing, etc. Not like some small cars that have the sealed trannies.
I want somone to come pull my trailer for me with their eco boost and prove to me they are getting 12 mpg pullin ga 5,000-lb trailer.
Maybe if it's a low-boy hauling cinder blocks that picks up no wind, but I am calling total BS on pulling a big wind-sail camp trailer at that mileage, I don't care how awesome the motor is.
Note: I'm not denying that its an awesome motor and I think conceptually its the way to go, in fact I might even be in the market for one .... but seriously, people need to get real about mileage. Really.
What I want is an F150 long bed with the Lariat package.
You can get a long bed in a regular cab or a Supercab but can't get the Lariat package.
You can get the Lariat in the Crew Cab but only with a 5.5' or 6.5' bed.
So I guess I'll be driving the Dodge a while longer.......
I drove a ecoboost f150 today, and i was thoroughly impressed. My wife has a 05 f150 w/5.4L and it was night and day different! If i didn't need a diesel for towing i would probably be getting one myself. And that is coming from someone who drives a spartan tuned 6.4L! Hopefully i can convince my wife to get one!
Is it really sealed for life or is there just no dipstick?
I know on the Tundra there is no tranny dipstick, but you still change the fluid on interval. The fluid level is checked with the diagnostic during service.
very impressed with mileage on my truck. truck has 730 km's on it with 270 left according to the truck computer. Truck has 60 km's on it when I picked it up. I have driven the truck between 110-160 km/h most of the time. Does anyone know what size fuel tank I have?? I'm very impressed so far. Love the power of the truck as well and ride is great.
You can with a new F150. I slapped my 6000lb? 2500 silverado on the 2000lb flatbed first week. Pulled it 18 miles at 80 MPH pulling the hills out of Beulah, to Sundance WY. Had about 300 miles on it. She was full of the that nice HOT rubber smell when we got to Sundance. Broke her in well.
I pulled 10,000lbs with my '01 silverado 1500 all the time. I was in my early 20s and couldn't afford the big diesels like I can today. I made due.
The comfort and ride is nice. The fuel mileage is Meh- OK at best. The ecoboost is the wife's rig, and we drive the holy hell out of it. I think it has 6-7K on it, and we've owned it 2 1/2 months.
I daily drive a '08 GMC 1 ton SRW Dmax with a utility bed. So, towing big loads is easier and more confident. I'm 8900lbs loaded with tools and an empty bed. Not too many trailers make me nervous.
It really comes down to how much you tow vs. empty. If you tow 3%-10% of your miles, buy a half ton and go slower. If you tow a lot, buy the big truck, go fast, and by a little more fuel.
Back to the F150.
I got 5 MPG pulling that bigger load at 80 MPH. I suspect I'll get 8 MPH driving like John Force is in the other lane with his trailer on too.
It gets 16-18 mostly hwy - and she drives about 90MPH for 18 miles in the morning, and 75-80 coming home.
Buy a billet grill for the bumper. Your intercooler is just going to get hammered if you don't.
I'm waiting for SCT to get some tuning software figured out for this thing. IMO it shifts like a turd. But, I'm a huge car guy - and I like some bang in my shifts. SO, I'll void my warranty, hopefully get the 21 MPG driving like I REALLY DO, and pickup about 90 RWHP.
Lucky for ford, I'm not driving it everyday. I'd find it's weakpoints
3cylinders and 6cylinders will always have a bunch of torque due to the angles of the crank. I will say this about the ecoboost. I think the turbos are a bit on the small side. It really feels like it runs out of air, can't breathe, whatever you want to call it. I've been itching to hack off the exhaust, might be this week yet. I want to see if that helps at all.
The aftermarket for this truck will be huge. I'm surprised no one has been keeping up with the demands. Should be fun to watch head stud kits, bigger turbos, intake systems, and exhaust systems be installed. I'd think 450 RWHP could be had for $4K once they get developed.
Utilimately. If I had to do it over again......I'd probably buy a 5.0L and buy a whipple supercharger. Nothing beats the sound a blown V8 pulling.
I miss that truck. Burnouts with a tool trailer hooked on would just blow kids minds stoplight to stoplight.
With the diesel prices rising and gas going down I am pulling the trigger! The dealer said I can test drive one for a week so I can pull my loaded trailer and see how it pulls.
I have one coming with the 3.73 gear ratio. I will let you knwo when I get it. I've been getting updates from GlennRMK that has been pulling with one and he loves it so far. I can't wait to pull the enclosed and see how it performs.
