F-150 ecoboost

The trannies have been like this for a long time in cars. For some reason they think the fluid will hold up for a lifetime(probably one owner 5 yrs). They have and drain and fill just like a differential. GM does it with their Dexron VI fluid also. Personally I would never forget about something as easy as fluid changes for a ~$5000 transmission.

My 2002 Grand Prix and my 2006 civic both have dip sticks. I know cars don't all have dipsticks but I thought all trucks did until now. Like I said, maybe it is not a concern and this tranny is built to last.

How about some more real world stories on towing, mileage, etc. Let us know what gears and tires and speeds you're running.

I have one coming with the 3.73 gear ratio. I will let you knwo when I get it. I've been getting updates from GlennRMK that has been pulling with one and he loves it so far. I can't wait to pull the enclosed and see how it performs.

I hope the 3.73 is better for you. I have been following an F150 site and it seemed there was a bit of mileage fluctuation with these lower gears. I did a calculation a while back and with the 6 speed auto plus the torque of the EB, I'm not sure I would need that much gear in the rear end for my uses.

Waiting to hear your reports. Re-financing my house to a lower rate so I won't be buying for a little while now.

5.0

Purchased a 5.0 l f150 lariat supercrew 6.5 box 3.55 re this summer, I get 18.5 mpg driving like grandma on the hwy, 16.3 bombing around town driving like a normal 32 yr old ( cant drive like I am 20 anymore tires are too expensive). I also pull a 7500lb trailer all summer and get 12 mpg at 65-70 here in mn. My question is how much better is the eco boost gonna work in the mtns at elevation compared to 5.0 L? We usually head west twice a winter for a couple weeks each and usully have diesels kind of entertaining driving my gasser, what you all think.

I have a 2011 ecoboost with 3:73 gears. I have a duramax as well. The ecoboost does not pull like the duramax but there is no doubt this is the most powerful 1/2 ton on the market. The best towing 1/2 on the market by a big margin!

The 5.0 Ford, 5.4 Nissan or the 5.3 Chev are simply no conparison. I have spent thousands of miles in all of these. These engines shift all the time and need rpm's for power. The ecoboost pulls my 14ft Floe effortlessly loaded through the mountains. It rarely shifts below 5th gear or revs above 3500rpm. This is compared to the 4500+ rpm that the 5.0, 5.4 or 5.3 run all the time when loaded (very annoying and tough on mileage).

For most people who occassionaly pull a trailer, this is the best truck out there. If you pull consistently, then a diesel is still the way to go. Mileage is very similar to my duramax (empty and towing) for a fraction of the price.

I would not buy gears taller than 3:73 because of the 6sp transmission. Even with the 3:73 gears, I run at 1800rpm at 60mph, plenty tall enough for me. If I wanted better mileage I would just drive the MDX.

I am a bit concerned about the interstate driving I do at 70-75 with the 3.73 gears. I am leaning more towards the 3.55 with the 6 speed to keep my cruising rpm's down for a possibly better highway mileage.

Poor Dodge, Nissan, Toyoga & GM start to close the gap and .....BOOM Ford blows it wide open again!

It's just not a fair fight!

The thing that irritates me about the F-150, you cannot buy a long bed with the Lariat package; WTF Ford?????

They don't offer the Lariat in a regular cab.
They don't offer an 8 foot bed in a Super Crew Cab at all.

I have looked in the printed brochure and on line.

Unless I'm missing something???

So are they gonna turbo a V8 for the F250/350 trucks? I heard they were bringing a variant of the 460 back since its finally dawned on people diesel trucks aren't all they're cracked up to be ....

There has been rumors that Ford is looking at a turbo V8 for the Super Duty but nothing has been released, information wise, yet.

I sick and tired of paying 75 cents to a buck 10 more for diesel over gas. It's not work it to me to have a diesel anymore but I definitely want a turbo charged engine.

I am looking into ordering a new ecoboost supercrew any thing I should order special or dont need? It will have a 6.5 box thinking of fx4 package with leather and max tow. I have dodge diesel now .80 cents a gal diff makes running it not worth it. Cumming good motor just tired of putting injectors in it. Two fuel filters have not helped. (poor fuel quality) Thanks

its Cummins! cumming is after you are done with your ****. I have never had to put injectors in any of the 6 Cummins I've owned, other then for hot rod purposes. you may wish to seek a better mechanic. I do agree we are getting hosed for the price of diesel.

as far as diesel vs gas, while the eco is a great motor its still 420 pound feet vs the diesels at 765 for the dmax, 800 for the ford and Cummins. that motor in a 3/4 or 1 ton aint going to cut it. take a 5.0 and turbo it as rumored and the numbers will go up. while the bsfc may not change the mpg will drop off as more hp is needed to move the extra weight. as the mpgs go down the cost between diesel and gas is negligible.

what it comes down to is how much truck do you need? the 1/2 tons will do a lot, it just that the 3/4 and 1 tons will do a lot more.

I have a relative that lives in colorado also has had good luck with cummings but in nd when you have to run more #1 fuel in winter is when we have trouble I am not the only one and the duramax has just as much injector problems also had one of them. I run a farm that burns lots of diesel and the fuel grade in the last two years is BAD. I have many friends here that run diesel trucks and the general concensus is epa does not want us to own diesel trucks many are swiching back to gas. I have always been a gm fan but the 6.0 does't get very good mpg. I know that the trucks are larger and need more fuel to get around. I have and old 6.5 3500 that only gets run in the summer on farm. Mpg has dropped on that as well with poor fuel. My father owned a 6.2 when they first came out 22 mpgs was no problem. New tec means more money less fuel economy sucks.

Why?

That is more torque than the 6.2 puts out (405 according to the Ford web site), the only gas engine available in the Superduty.

and whats the gcwr for the 6.2 equipped S.duty vs the 6.7 scorpion equipped S.duty? with the same rear end ratio the diesel can (recommended) tow combined weight over 10,000lbs more then the gas motor.

again its all it what you want to tow....go big or go home you need the power

What's a Scorpion?

Since I never tow more than 10,000 any more I don't need the huge power or expense of the diesel.
