If you can't find politics in Summit County you either can't read or don't speak the language.
Not knowing what a "liberal" is? Ignorance is bliss...time to polish off the ol' Obama sticker eh?

;-)

Maybe i just dont care about politics and thats why i live in Summit County. All we care about up here is good snow and good weed. And for the record i dont have any Obama stickers to polish. Obama is just as full of **** as George Bush, and Republicans and Democrats are really just one party.

Silvethorne is the best place to live if you like snowboarding and snowmobiling. There are a lot of places within 15 minutes, Keystone, Loveland, A-basin, Breck, Copper, Vail Pass, Montezuma, Spring Creek, all right here. And denver is only an hour a way. Rent is higher, but its easy to find a job.

Not sure what a liberal is, but if it is the opposite of republican, then good. There are not a lot of people that even give a **** about politics up here everyone just wants to ride.

*EEK* You scare me. While the Republicans got scarred under "W" the Dems where busy riding the carnage and closing our riding areas and abolishing our constitutional rights. I am a tri-county local and Summit County is a very left-wing community as a whole, there are a few good apples in the bunch though. BTW, politics are huge in Summit County!

As for jobs, that is another good joke. Jobs are slim to none in Summit County. If there were decent jobs available I'd be working. I have done my research on the job market there and the ones that are available don't pay sh*t and you couldn't afford to rent someon'e's camp cot in their crawl space. Real Estate is dead, construction is dead, development is dead and now that ski season is finished, the only economic impact is the fact that I70 runs through it. I was over there today and the want ads for employment could be printed on the palm of my hand.

This guy wants and deserves honest and knowledgeable advice and you being an admitted pot head doesn't help his situation at all.

On a side note, aren't you the same d-bag that was bragging about riding the Wilderness areas on Vail Pass?

HUH? You really do smoke too much dope! While both parties have their faults and there are a bunch, they are at way different ends of the political spectrum! You deserve some red apples, too bad I'm on LD.

I see someone said Wyoming, check into pay scales for the 2 areas. I was told that teachers in Gillette, WY were some of the top paid in the US (only hear say but worth a look).

Unfortunately the cost of living in Gillette is right on par or ahead of southern California (by the housing numbers anyway) It's the the only place in the country where my employer adds a housing assistance to the relocation package to move there, besides California. But yes the teachers there are pulling some good bank.

Is the cost of living just stupid high everywhere on the west slope? Is it one of those things where you've got to get up into a mountain town for housing to be cheap, but then jobs are even more scarce? /QUOTE]

Actually from what I found when I moved here last fall was that the housing Varies widely in price from one area to another. But the one thing that did remain constant, the closer you are to mountains the more expensive it is to buy a home/land, and the more it costs to fill the cart at the local grocery store.

As for the area around Denver if you should choose to go that route, just do your research as to traffic, housing, jobs and where they are from one another. Also do a lot of driving around the areas that you look at.

Good you found a job. Nobody I know, including myself can find one and I look everyday. DEAD DEAD DEAD!

Jobs!!!

There are jobs in CO, but you can't just sit on your azz in front of your computer and wait for them to come to you, you have to seek them out! When times are tough and there are "fewer" jobs, you may have to suck up your pride and get a lower paying job, hell maybe even get a second job to get the bills paid. This may also mean that you put the sleds/toys in storage or even sell them to make ends meet. You have to make choices in life and sometimes that means putting "play time" on hold and getting that low paying job for the time being. You get out of it what you put into it! My 2 cents.

FYI!! Befor you go making accusations...

I don't sit on my azz all day in front of the computer. I look for jobs in the neighboring 3 counties too. I have looked at lower paying jobs and those are few and far between too AND the competition is fierce! One position at Wal-Mart will net over 500 applicants. I have been told by many employers over the last few months that I was "over-qualified" and I should be concentrating on jobs that I am educated for. I have literally sent out 1000s of resumes, references and cover letters since 2009 began. Businesses are closing left and right and you see ads on bulletin boards BEGGING for clients at costs reduced so much it would make you cry. I don't live in the Front Range where one could drive around from block to block, business to business and submit applications all day. I am registered at every temp agency, job placement organization and Workforce center in Colorado. I have looked from the East stateline to the West stateline, NM and WY. I have a wife and 2 kids and spending money to live in a hotel room away from home all week doesn't add up to being able to pay the bills. I have run that equation every which way I could. I didn't ride nearly as much this year and selling the toys is impossible. You can't give a sled away, especially when dealers are unloading the leftover 09s for 6000 bucks. I have sold my second car, selling the house and moving to another area is unrealistic as well as you can't find buyers for them either, renting isn't an option because the peeps that are renting here cannot afford the payments. It is very hard out there and you should STFO about stuff that you have no idea about. I stay at home with my kids because I cannot afford to pay 580 bucks for every 2 weeks of daycare to go out and search for a job every day, it doesn't make sense!

And you go throwing out unsigned red rep and then preach about swallowing pride doesn't represent you very well either. If it wasn't you then there are more chicken chit peeps in Colorado that I thought!

PP, basically this is kind of on topic but starting to go in a different direction. But isn't that how all threads work on SnoWest?:rolleyes:

Don't know how to throw rep, nor do I care.

During the summer in the mountains they're always looking for people to log/spray beetle kill trees. This job is unsafe and dangerous, so don't go turning them into OSHA.

Gee, if you know so much about jobs in the mountains, why don't you spread the wealth. We have a Forest Service and BLM office here and I have already checked there. NOT HIRING! Oh, and I have driven to the logging sites and personally spoken with the Foremen (most of whom own the logging company) NOT HIRING!

I'll work a dangerous job anytime! But I will not work at a job where there are no safety protocol in place. That is why OSHA is there, to protect people from employers that try to cut corners to save a buck, therefore putting the lives of employees in danger.

Keep your 2 cents. You'll need them. Jobs are scarce in CO. Even crappy ones. Before you judge, you should walk a few miles in his shoes. It is not often possible to pick up and move a family just to get a $10/hr job or work 80 hours while taking care of your family. We posted a $9/hr aide job in my O.R. and got 75 apps, IN THE FIRST 4 HOURS!
We even got apps from people with masters degrees. Even in healthcare, things are tough.

Back to the original topic. Find a job here FIRST and then worry about access to sledding and biking. Let's face it, almost anywhere in CO west of Mt Limon is close to good sledding and biking.

Ghostrider to tower; I feel the need for speed!

Just more BS if you can't supply a company name. "They are always hiring". "There are lots of jobs in summit county". "Lots of jobs on the front range". blah blah blah. Just hear-say and worthless opinions without proof to back it up.

Move on out to CO and take the only job left, so PJ can't have it.

As for the logging/spraying job, I am going help out my bud on the weekends. Don't want him getting fined by OSHA or anything.

Just because they have a master’s degree, doesn't mean they're a fit for the job. Hell if I have my masters in accounting, this by no means puts me ahead of the pack when it comes to health care.

Luckily we have this new president that’s going to save use all, even give the less fortunate heath care! What a scam I tell you!

I'm way off topic! CO is a great place!

You really are a first class Prick! If you really know where all of the jobs are up here in the mounatins, WHERE YOU DON'T LIVE, why don't you divulge the info. Oh, that's right! You are just blowing smoke to stir the pot. Steamboat RN hit the nail on the head with that one.

I hope that hard times fall upon you and some Know-it-all comes and starts to tell you how to live your life and take care of your family. And before you start going off about OSHA and what happened to me, why don't you familiarize yourself with the situation before spouting off and spewing comments out of your pie hole!
