Elko riders... get connected for the season!

OK! Finally dippin my toe back into snowmobiling! (instead of snowmobile repair!) Got the 'ol Exciter back. Yeah, its the "loaner", back-up sled... but until i get that highly-anticipated call from Thin Air that my Summit is ready... the Exciter it is! She was due for a 136" conversion and mtn. bars in place of that big ol' pod, but thats all gonna have to wait for now! So, now just need to find some time off. (alright, everyone quite snickering, you know you've all spent at least on day on the "loaner"!:face-icon-small-win

pretty good

Well we went up today it was pretty good, but we could allways use some more!!! All went well besides when I was making a climb and blew a belt and went over the handle bars Pete Rose style. But snow conditions are not too bad we gots some powder shots. But for those who are heading this way and have a long drive I would wait until Feb at least.

Hey I live in Reno. Just started sledding last year. I hear there is some good riding in the Elko area when there is snow. Anyone have some links or maps to good riding out in your area? Thanks......

Your right where ya' need to be! Heck with maps!! Give a shout out when your coming up and im sure you'll be able to find someone to ride with. Im always up for a ride (if im off). You definently want to ride with a group in the Rubies anyway, much safer. As far as maps...the forest service office her in Elko can provide those and i beleieve the chamber of commerce MIGHT possibly have some. If you want a first-hand look at the riding... i have some videos posted on you-tube. Search: nevadahigh365

Reno to Elko: 290 miles Ruby mountains are 20 miles out of Elko. Heard some good reports from up north. Jacks Peak/Goldcreek are 70 miles north of Elko. A little less snow in the hills though, still need to keep a close eye out for rocks. Some friends rode up there a few days ago and had a good ride. Riding in the Rubies starts at around 8,000' up to over 10,000'. Goldcreek/Jacks starts at around 6,500' unload elevation and works up over 9,000'. Jacks Peak is over 10,000' but thats in the jagged rocks.

Put 40 miles on the 92 Exciter II (4th string):D just at the dollars and the lake! She even made it up Launch Pad! (bone stock) WHOOHOO! Looks like all it cost me was a shock... oh well, could care less. 'CUZ THIN AIR CALLED AND TOLD ME TO COME GET THE SUMMIT!!!! WINTER IS FINALLY HERE!!!:D

Dont worry "LTL"... i've never been much of a rockhound! No turning back now after last weekend!;) I'll be by to pick her up today, then me and the little one are going for a ride up to the lake (her FIRST time!)

I really didn't do well with pics again. We had three days of riding the Rubies. Had a good time. The snow is very skimpy. There were some places we saw, that were missing 20+ feet of snow.

We were able to still find pockets of snow in many places......we made lots of new tracks. Our last day we had the good fortune of finding our way into a pocket that had been untracked this year. We really had a ball.

Thanks to our local contacts for putting up with our antics and riding with us. We had four of us come from Reno. My buddy Turbo-poo and "the kid". Snowdevil and myself. I was looking around at our crew on the first morning. I felt like the "red headed step child". I was in the midst of no less than four turbo charged sleds. I was the only normally asperated(sp) sled in our group. It was a bit intimidating......whew. Talk about a cat in a room full of dogs..........LOL

All in all we had a ball. The challenges were on. Through out the days, big climbs, big speed, and lots of bantering, were all a part of the norm for this group.

We met up with some of the Team Summit guys on Monday AM and they were going on the basic route we had taken the day before. Sounds like they still found enough snow to make lots of new tracks.

Bottom line, even with poor snow conditions, there is still lots of excitement to be found in them thar hills!

PS: Oh almost forgot..............Thanks Doug(Ships Cycle) for taking a throttle cable off of a brand new sled to get Snowdevil going.

PSS: Looks like AO invented a new way to keep the gas fumes "out" of his trailer...........LOL

i just went up to wild horse gold creek , sunflowerflats this weekend... it was pretty good nice cornices ... spellin? lol but good ridin just on the flats was a little low!! of course i was waiting on my polaris motor and riding my srx tank!! still got some good drops/jumps in though..

Lookin for a good, hard ride... Lamoille, Harrison or Jacks/Goldcreek. Anyone got anything in the works? Off Tues & Wed, but will burn a vaco on the weekend. Seems outta the "old posse" im the only one dedicated to riding this year. That and we've just been having alot of scheduling conflicts...

...and if ANYONE is looking to go up north, I would love to come along! FYI, lived up at Wildhorse for 15 years... know alot of good riding areas.

Tuesday or wednesday? Jacks Peak shows 36"+ compared to 25" at Lamoille canyon. Anyone interested? Plan on 40+ miles. (I hope?) Drove down to Harrison yesterday, nothin' but rocks and dirt. Have been hearing good news about Goldcreek area, not sure if anyone has been on Jacks yet?

awesome powder

Went up today and thought it wasn't going to be very good but ended up being an awesome day! Snowed most of the day then got some blue skies and two foot of powder with some killer turns. Spent most of the day rippin up the trees and havin a blast. Best day I've had since last year! It's getting better boys.
