Elko riders... get connected for the season!

Tony,

Powder Therapy
By Scott Faiman

Mountain riders live to reach higher. They live to visit places only seen by few, where the only sign of humanity for miles around is a snowmobile track in the untouched powder. Each day is new with fresh challenges and dangers. One must have the sense to stay out of trouble and the uncanny ability to come out unscathed when things go bad. Mountain riders who ride religiously are the only people I’ve ever truly been able to connect with, they live for the moment, but at the same time think about the excitement tomorrow may bring. It’s a beautiful world out there, don’t let life pass you by sitting on the sidelines, get out and enjoy. Remember, “Where there’s a hill there’s a way.”
The famous author Henry David Thoreau once said, “I had always longed to visit the mountains and found that when I did, discovered that I had not yet lived.” This mentality is shared by most visitors to the high country. I’ve found and felt a unique bond between mountain riders that few other sports seems to have. It’s what snowmobiling is all about! Passion! It’s not a hobby, it’s a religion. I’ll see you in the clouds.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I tried to find it in a seach of the local paper and couldn't find it.

Thanks again

Scott was right. 2 days of rain made it final:sun:. Powdercrew WILL have the last tracks in Lamoille canyon for 2009:D...

Scott.... very well put.... it is really hard to share with people sometimes just how addictive our sport is but as you so fondly put it or of sorts it is an alpha males playground and what a place for the generals to get together and forget about their individual wars... or as MY brother puts it "throttle therapy"! Awesome article and excerpts I hope are avail! Suzanne is doing well, still on oxygen to get her O2 saturation numbers back but she is jonsin to get her chariot fixed and ready for next year..... I think she is going a little quick for my taste but could be worse eh.... so the prayers must be working and/or did work 'cause it seems she is out of the DZ for now.... thanks so much for all you guys do for us in "the canyon" hope to see you soon and hopefully call Powder Crews bluff after the rains.....

'till then

Jeff and Sue

Tony and Jeff,
I went for a ride with my son Saturday morning. We had to ride a little dirt to get to the snow. I hate doing that even if it is on the horse trail. It looked as though the Canyon got pounded by rain after we left. I think we're done unless a big low rolls in and dumps a couple feet at the outhouse.

Sadly enough... Scott is RIGHT!:face-icon-small-sad (a little dirt?) I went up Sunday night around 10:00 pm to check it out for a monday hit and gotta say..."a river runs through it". Hiked up to the granite slabs at the waterfalls and there are BARELY enough snowy patches to "justify" the attempt. A family emergency had me on the road monday morning...which is probably good. There wouldve been alot of brush-crunchin' and I agree with Addict on that one. (but i WAS thinkin about it:eek:) Addict was the one "sand-bagging" all along with his last ride in the Rubies post awhile back;)... Next year Addict!:D Scratch the Rubies off the list. (will throw a short video post up here in a few days of my last ride May 19th)

Hey guys, thanks for keeping us posted. It's pretty much done around here too. Had a Sonora report that wasn't too good and the last of the access to castle looks like dirt too.

Ya know yer addicted when..............................LOL

You guys ever have enough snow to go riding over thanksgiving anywhere around there? Headed down to Elko for a family reunion over Thanksgiving and wondering if i should bring my sled or just leave it at home.
Alex

Thanksgiving is usually hit or miss. By thyat time were usually riding the roads tuning sleds up. If the winter is going to be good though and we get the early storms, its possible. Last few years though winter has arrived late and you were looking at 1'-2' on the road. If your familiar with SNOTEL you would be able to keep a good eye on snowpack in the weeks leading up to your trip... I created this thread and get on the forums alot, would be more than able to give you an accurate update when the time comes. If theres snow, i'll be riding the week before thanksgiving...

Info wanted on sledding Mtn. City, Nevada area

I picked up some information at the Elko booth, while visiting the Boise Snowmobile Show yesterday. Mountain City was mentioned as a sledding area. I'm from Boise and not that far from Mountain City. Any info on sledding and lodging in the area would be appreciated.

Actually grew up at Wildhorse Resevoir for 15 years! THAT is a great place to ride.;) Question: what type of riding you lookin to do? cross-country (meadows and hills), mountain riding, scenic/leisure or adventure? Different places you want to go depending... Wildhorse resort (775-758-6471) is the best bet for lodging (or bring an RV). Owhyee:rolleyes: is about 12 miles from Mtn City and less than 20 to wildhorse. Elko is 67 to wildhorse and around 80 to Mtn city. Sent ya a PM...

Heres some pics I had that you can get an idea of the terrain from...
