dyno results - 800 engine quality

Winterbrew, that may be the case....none of us know for sure...see my post above....it has valid points and questions..

But IMPARTIAL...lol....buy my PCV and map and you will get 160HP from your dog....Dyno Tech used to be impartial....times have changed...what next....advertising from 2 of the 4 mfg's???? We might as well believe in my conjecture too....

I am just saying, don't bet the farm on the dyno specs...It may or may not be the case...too early and too many variables...

Yep, time will tell. :clock: Come on November!

Don't get me wrong. I would love to see Polaris step up and give us 160. (and Polaris better be reading this)

:face-icon-small-hapYa!! That's super. A Pro 600 RMK with 143 HP. I will be super impressed as I can't open the hood to remind myself that it's an 800, but the benefit are greater than the cons. Limited built sled 600 RMK and lots of power .Win Win situation. Thank for the idea.:face-icon-small-coo

Boy we don't have the D8 to ***** about so now we rag on Dyno Jim, wonder how impartial he would be with say 180 hp readings? IMO he is as impartial as they get anywhere and has no hidden agenda. So he sells a few PCv's because we asked him to; so we could get the map from him. Wake up he'll test the rmks when someone brings one in, after he installs his cold air intake system. I guess summer is for complaining so let er rip; me I'm going fishing and reading Dynotech.

Exactly, you won't find someone more impartial. He tests all the brands each year for the shootout in one of the mags too. He is very up front about what could be effecting hp numbers such as outside temp. And yes the test mule was well warmed up. Check his site to see exactly how controlled the test was.
Jim and his team also invested countless hours tuning the PCV and creating maps to fix what Polaris couldn't. He and the people he works with are great guys and don't deserve any kind of negative comments.
For those of you that are skeptical. It pays to get a membership to his site to see just how unbiased he is and how straight forward he is about his testing. You will find quite a bit of interesting information about the new motor.
I think you are all going to be buying PCV's again and voiding your warranty.

I am looking forward to the test of a FRESH, PRODUDCTION, PRO RMK in COLD air...
I don't feel thst it is DynoTech as much as it is people looking in to his numbers wrong....
I also feel that he is losing some of his being "unbiased" position considering he is now selling product...it would happen to anyone in the same situation....nothing bad against him, but it is a conflict of interest that goes against what his inital method of operation was back in the 80's.....such is the evolution of life....

You betcha.....Dynotech Jim is a stallwart in the snowmobile business. Arctic Cat went to him with thier new updated 800 for an independant dyno run then published the results. Now Skidoo has plastered his dyno 800 E-Tech results all over thier website. I'd say he's the most respected snowmobile Dyno operator period. The numbers are what they are guys...trust me, if Polaris had a good dyno results for the 800, they would be all over thier website. The Polaris 800 is a good runner, I have one, just a tad down from the other 800's, them's the facts.

Maybe it's just me but I still don't believe Dyno Tech gets the pipe hot enough to simulate actual riding conditions. I say this because the Dyno RPM for peak power is always lower on the Polaris than we see in actual "in the snow" peak power. A cold pipe is one possibility-the most likely one. There are two things that happen with temperature-1. The ECU changes the fuel map and maybe timing when the Exhaust Probe hits the higher required temp. 2. The hotter exhaust gas changes the way the pipe scavenges vs a cold pipe. Polaris didn't publish this temp threshold in the service manual.
Apparently DTR can only get Ethanol fuel in NY, I always run non-ethanol.
Another factor could be the lower altitude that changes air density so the pipe on a mtn sled should work better at higher altitude. I saw one Aftermarket pipe last year that had an adjustable pipe for different elevations. Air density and temperature in the pipe change the way it scavenges. At higher altitudes air pressure drops and this changes the way the pipe does it's job scavenging. The same with temperature in the pipe. The stock factory pipe is not going to work best on a Polaris at 1,000 feet. On mtn sleds they likely design them to work best at a higher altitude. These factors can have a significant affect on engine performance.
This subject has been covered in mags over the years. I didn't find a real good article on this subject but here's one that covers the altitude effect: http://members.multimania.co.uk/roylee20/fourphotogalery.html

Falcon and others,
You are missing my point in this:
Were the Arctic Cat and Skidoo 1700 mile dealer abused, non-mountain, preproduction models?

Then the dealer 2011 skidoo that was here to demo, got delayed because it had no map in the ECM...wasn't finished or EPA yet....but yet the dyno read the high HP numbers prior to passing EPA?? What will be production??

We would have bashed Polaris if they sent a ringer to Dynotech...TOO MANY VARIABLES TO BET THE FARM ON THIS....MAYBE IT WILL BE 143HP...MAYBE NOT....TIME WILL TELL...

considering 90% of people can't even ride stock 800's to their full potential everyone sure is making a big deal out of 5-7hp. the weight and new chassis of this machine and how well it flat out works means nothing? come winter i don't think anyone will be crying about the dyno numbers.

yep lots of dyno # polaris always had lower #'s and they always held there own when dialed in,sorry[when held together].

Isn't this the truth.

X2 Amen.

I Have tested some different mappings for Polaris this Winter.
I have sometimes put it on customers sleds with them knowing about
it and sometimes not.
Just to get unbiased feedback.
One guy complained about his D8 Not pulling revs...
And he wanted to try out the same as i had put into his friends ECU...
That sled seemed to Rock!
I told him i flashed it-And he was super Happy with the new stuff....
I never did flash that sled....And now it was blowing all others off the mountain.....

If you got 10 sleds that were dyno verifyed hp between 140-155 all
mixed up could you rank them from 1 to 10 which was the strongest?
Probably not-The ones with most revs would probably feel best.

So can i ask what you did to that sled??

I did nothing!
And fixed It for free with nothing!
It was nothing wrong with it
it ran way better than most D8s
But the hype that someone has some secret stuff
can make people go wild....
