I dont think the true controversy should be about his message or the content. The Controversy to me is the fact he is addressing MY minor children. I also want my kids to be armed with knowledge to defend there opinions heck that is the basis for our political system to have checks and balances. BUT, it is MY job to communicate with my formable minor until such time he/she turns 18 then I feel they can make there beliefs known and the cycle continues on. It is NOT fair to start giving the govt a leg up in such a competition. Heck if we let the govt do this now where will it stop? We have a society of govt followers. And IMO that is the true agenda.

BTW, my kids will be attending school today but have instructed the school to opt out of the presidents message.

End the war on terror..... yeah, that sounds like a magnificent idea!!! I hate the fact that my brother, neighbor, friends are fighting or will be fighting over there again in the very near future and pray every day for their safe return while doing their part to help keep this country safe. But, if you think we can just sit back and wait for another 9/11 to happen and deal with it on our own turf then that just gives the terrorists more time, money and property to gather themselves and plan another attack in the US or other "organized" countries. Going after these zipperheads (watched Gran Torino over the weekend) on their own turf and disrupting their normal day of how to kill America is working, they've thwarted several terrorist attacks around the world and caught several of the top command in Al Qaeda and Taliban and I'm confident we will soon take down Bin Laden. I would really like to see more countries having the footprint we do in the Middle East though, I think we are about stretched to the max and don't like that, we could sure use some help....

Unless you subscribe to the notion that the US Government is responsible for 9/11??? How can an American suggest we end the war on terror?? You would feel a whole lot different if it was your family in the Towers that morning.

Then again, I guess that's why Obama is in office.... He promised to do most of those things, just too bad he doesn't know how to do it. Throwing Trillions of dollars at "change" is only going to cost us in the long run, once inflation catches up with this economy...... Taxes WILL have to go up to pay for all this, or has someone announced another way this reckless spending is going to be paid for??? He might be able to raise the deficit to 10 Trillion $$ during his reign and not raise taxes, but what is the next guy going to be stuck with???

Guantanamo Bay is a classic example of how this President works, act on a plan first and then come up with a plan after the act. Just doesn't work that way.

By the way, my kids did go to school today, but it doesn't sound like they will be watching any TV. The public spoke their view on this and school districts around the nation were busy answering the phones about this whole deal, and because of that, the format was changed to something the American people would be more likely to accept.

I agree with you, but am surprised that you wonder. The government is bleeding the economy dry, while the politicians and corporations line their pockets with cash. They are dragging on a decade old war to protect their own oil, poppy, and global domination interests. The have millions of people falsely imprisoned over a bs, failed war on drugs. The government is taking away our rights, privacy, and freedom at an alarming rate. All of this while giving the country away to illegals.

Both men (Bush and Obama) are flaming idiots. I NEVER supported Bush but I did vote for him because the other guy posed a SERIOUS risk to all motorized OHV and hunting sports.

Now as Obama has become more comfortable in office we are again facing many land closures and increasing Wilderness areas, which don't do anybody any good.

Sure is socialism, but when the government kills private industry (private schools)....middle class folk like me don't have much of a choice but to enroll our children in these socialistic institutions. Why do you think I monitor in detail what goes on in his classroom? Teachers hate me! I would love that my son went to a private school...just can't do it. Some areas in the U.S. have decent competitive private schools because government interference is less. Where I live I would have to work 3 jobs to pay for it. I would prefer home schooling to public school, but that is not feasible for the ex-wife to maintain her household.

So to answer you question...you are damn right they are socialistic institutions, but since government has killed my son's freedom of options we don't have much of a choice but to give him a half a$$ed bullsh*t education...even though I teach him every opportunity I get.

Interesting. So, at what level of government; is it socialism. Is State schools socialism? County schools? Homeowner associations? Churchs? or is Federal School socialism?

Yep, when the federal government gets involved, it's definitely socialism.

When the federal judicial decides for the local community, it's socialism.

Schools are a little different from other government programs. There's a mandate by the public at large to provide some education, or at least day care for kids 5 thru 17 year olds. Education, if done properly, is uplifting, not suppressing, like liberal policies. Education can broaden a childs mind to thoughts not allowed in some homes. Education has a proven payback, although I would imagine there are lots of schools where that isn't the case.

Unfortunately, not all socialism is bad. Defense, is by definition socialism. The collective sponsoring of an national entity, for the common good. The legal system is part socialism. For the collective good, we are a country, based on laws, and therefore require someone to administer and uphold our collective rules of society.

Limited socialism, or minimal socialism, is the goal. Otherwise, you have anarchy. I believe you may reference the constitution for allowed socialist activities of the government.

My one son has a home room so emailed his teacher the other has multi rooms so had to contact school they said they would make sure he is excused.


In review of how the day went this is what the teacher said..

"Anyone have any excused absence for the Obama speech?"


7 kids raised there hands in class

Heck they didnt even excuse them from the room... WTF.
