Our Superintendant said that he has not heard requests from teachers wishing to view the speech. He feels it is not a politically motivated speech and more of a "stay in school and work hard" type deal. And he also attached this....
School districts all over the country are being called by parents and community members voicing concern about President Obama’s address to students on September 8th. Bruce Hunter met with White House staff last week and they said the address would be entirely aimed at students (secondary more than elementary was his impression), urging them to study hard, stay in school graduate, be good citizens, and aspire to post secondary education - with no policy related message on any subject. The staff told Bruce that the speech will reference web sites and materials that can provide instructional materials related to the need to work hard, have high aspirations, and graduate from high school.
Bruce told staff that the audience may not be large because school is starting and other activities may be a priority over a presidential address. An option for school districts is to watch the address live or on the White House web site and download it for later use if it is deemed appropriate.
If there is an organized campaign to shut down the President’s message not viewing will be acceptable. On the other hand, at least one school district is getting a push from people saying the President’s address ought to be seen.

I agree with a few posts above. If they released a transcript of the speech, this may be different. I for one think it will be like Bush and Regan's speeches to kids about not doing drugs and things. No political agenda, just a helpful message.

My wife taught kindergarten to second grade for 31 years. she used to bring home trunk loads of environmental propaganda to burn. She was supposed to disseminate all this to those little minds and she would not do it. It is pretty easy for these people to control our lives and no one knows the difference.

called the school where my kids go, and asked if they were intending to carry or broadcast the speech...Was told they have no intention to do anything related to it...
I was very pleased!!! especially since this is probably the most left leaning school district in the area...Was told that they have gotten lots of similar calls...I re-enforced that I had no desire for my children to listen in on his speech, unless I know what is said in advance of it.

Luckily my daughter attends private school and their first full class day isn't until the 9th!
If she does see it though - I will turn it into a teaching moment. I do not believe in shielding our children from the world that they live in. She has to live in it and make her own decisions. My job, as her parent, is to ensure she is armed with the skills and the mind-set to deal with everything today's society throws at her. Including the manipulations of charismatic people. I'm hoping she learns to listen to her gut about people, words and actions.

Does BO even understand that our schools are a function of our local and state governments not the federal government? He wants to control our very lives. I remember being in a debate club some time in high school and the topic of one of our debates was, should we or should we not accept Federal funding of our school systems. My side was no, because every time the feds put money into anything they would demand control. So it wasn't much different 45 or 50 years ago.

Sounds like more and more parents are freaking out about this. Of course the WH makes it sound innocent, like it's not what it really is. And of course he's going to give a benign speech on Tuesday and the MSM will say "see, conservatives got their panties in a wad for nothing." When really after you look at what teachers were supposed to discuss, it was not innocent.
