Rea:lly???

Really a 250 hp na running with 250 hp turbos at 10,000 feet. Now hold on there are you sure?? every thing i have ever heard says a turbo at the same hp as a na sled will get beat handily at 10,000 feet by the turbo. i have never had mine on a dyno maybe i;m not making the power you guy;s are. i carls cycle porting, case and cylinders with 13.2 to 1 head. My carbs are flat 40s un bored. Maybe i'm losing it on the carbs? But my sled rips i just do;nt think it up there at 250 heck maybe it is.

Like I said the turbos pull harder on the big end but they do lose alot off the line, its nothing to get them outta the hole 4/5/6 lengths. Yeah sure they pass me but not before were doin 70-80 but most turbos are mtn sleds and arent even geared much higher than this. Im set to about 108-110 at 8250.

at fairview my 900 was pullin a bit harder on top than my 1200 but couldnt catch it on the top of the hill. theres a big diffrence between HP and torque, ask wursten!

plus runnin a 144 over the bigger longer tracks helps cause it takes more HP to turn a bigger track but here in cali with our sierra cement it gets all the hook up it needs!

Larry....Have ya jumped on a 800 or Kevins sled? If your thinkin your sled isnt that much better just ride that 600 you were riding before ya finished that 1200 and tell me how it feels.

250?

The 1200's better be at 250 with porting and decent carbs/reeds!!!!!

If those engines dont make 240Hp easy, they're just heavy. My 1029 is guaranteed 220 with the price cylinders (hi comp version made 232 on dyno).

And I dont even need to hear about inflated dyno numbers and dyno vs. mountain. If your engine guy knows his stuff, he should have helped put some guys on the boards to give real proof.

Cheers:beer;:beer;

Hello guys whats up. I just registered for the site yesterday when I stumble upon the old thread on the web. I just bought a 1050 watercraft base and crank with a bent rod. My friend bought an artic cat with one of these engines in it. His sled is set up for drag racing and it ROCKS! His motor has a 73mm stroker crank in it with 800 cylinders bored to 89mm. It come out to 1362cc and will do about 126mph in 660 feet on the ice. He runs c-12 and get a conservative 265hp. I say conservative because the guy who built it alos built his own dyno and says it reads low. Anyhow I would like to build myself a 1050 but my plan is to spin it. I would like to see 9800 operating rpms with 14:1 compression for the ice. Any thoughts?

Larry, you would be surprised what the difference is between 40 and 42mm. It is like the difference between 44 and 48/50mm. something about that size of 42 works very well.

My old set up with 42's and CS pipes, Doug Ruth porting and 13.5:1 was 260 hp @8500 (corrected).

Matty, I never raced a 900 turbo but I know those things haul the mail. I never lost to a 700-800 twin with boost. But then I never raced them at 10k. Wait a minute, I raced a couple at Fairview on Brads 1200 and whooped them.
I have ran a 995 with a series 66 and I know that would take my 1200 no porblem, hands down...........if the hill was long enough. Just gotta love having the whole thing on demand.

Bored 40s

I have used bored 40s bored to 42 two different sets and they both end up breaking the slides and in my opinnion are not worth the risk. Yes i have rode 800s and 700s since and no doubt this 1200 has way more power. i guess i'm just use to it now. i just thought 250 would feel well more powerfull. i have sure seen alot of these being sold off, like any motor at a fraction of the cost of build. is every one just going to 4 strokes now?

Hardass, I think your problem is that you ride EVERYDAY!!!! How can any sled feel huge on that basis.... take a few days off maybe a week:)

:D

give me a call they run 550.00 Brad 435 881 6665 or bradw1200@hotmail.com

Sweet. Looks like president Bush is coming through with a tax refund. I guess I know where that may be going :D. Besides the pipes and mag housing the head is one of the most expensive investments of the motor. Provided I can find some cylinder at a decent price. Ebay is slowing down on sled stuff. It may take a while.

Well, I guess the only two chassis I have to put it in right now are my 02 xcr800 chassis and my xc 700 chassis. All my other chassis are the older wedge chassis with the central mounted steering arm. This means a motor plate won't work because of the tie rod that comes up from the steering post will be in the way. Also I will run into problems with the pipes hitting that steering arm. I am making this into a drag sled under lots of stress so I will be running a full motor plate. Anyhow since the xcr is my pride and joy and is complete I will probably be putting it in a 98 xc 700 chassis. Hopefully I will have the money to put a genII hood and belly pan on it.

hey guys I may be selling my crankshops for a gen 2 1200. npp fitted, and a set of lectron 44mm carbs. U guys get dibs. pm me!

I've got an HRP primary too that needs a spider which I'm willing to part with, this ones got the 6t taper on it but I ran it on a polaris 1200 crank for two years. Cheap Cheap!!! lol
