Some more pics of riding here in the western slope "desert".
55 degrees and rode with a jacket on all day.
40 minute drive from down town junction.

You missed an interesting ride. I wanted to show Katherine the overlook but we ended up in the middle of a cattle drive. Good thing we were there. One of the drovers had his horse fall on him and broke his leg. We splinted it for him(knee/shin guards work well for that) and got him back on his horse so he he could get to a road for transport.
We did find some new trails that are fun and, all in all, we had a good ride.

do those trails get tight and technical or is it more open and technical rock sections?

Mostly 2track but there is a fair amount of excellent single track as well. It is a very large area and it would be hard to ride from one end to the other on a tank of gas. Frequently 20 degrees cooler up there then in town.
Check out the forest service web site for maps and info.

Thanks.

I've wanted to hit Moab with my father-in-law but he doesn't seem to want to drive past CO. I think with the maps and pictures I may have a fighting chance.

Moab is a great place but it is getting a bit warm right now.
These pics have been from the riding around Grand Junction, CO. Not Moab.
Well, Rabbit Valley does cross into UT, but it is still an hour to Moab from there.
www.Thunpertalk.com has a lot of good info on Moab if you need ideas and tips.

Steering clear of Rampart this weekend. Probly gonna be a zoo.

I went to VDR tonight (cause it's 10 minutes away) for a little track time and was not busy at all. but there were quite a few weekenders pulling in as I was leaving.

Nice looking country Charlie and I'm guessing your married to your riding partner:beer; I worked out in western Utah a couple hours NW of Cedar City for two weeks in June. Hence the avatar! Now I know why the cowboys wore a bandanna around their neck:rolleyes: 40 MPH hot wind sandblasting the cheeks rosey:eek: Wished I had my bike out there! Actually, I wished I had YOUR bike rather than the old 350 XT! lol

another gooder today on the Umcompahdgre...sp?

managed to drop into an un-climbable situation. 607-608 is hairy, and impossible if ridin backards, right mark!
A- techical at best, all or nothing climbs at times. So much for my new tires, there are now half gone :)
truly knarly, thru and thru. But we're home and the stories are getting better, and better.

1st location, 1st mistake...........

3hrs, later.........climbing out the "right way" 608 and bikes are boiling over..
