Diesel nears the $5.00 dollar mark and most likely a way of life

You do know that the US is the number one arms seller in the world right? We make a lot of money off weapons and munitions sales........

your 100% correct. the defense industry is a very large part of the U.S. economy. you guys should see some of the DOD contracts that have happend in the last year or two. defense is one of the few things that everyone in congress agrees on. because when you build a fighter jet, or a tank, or ship you get to have alot of people involved. look at the raptor program. something like 20+ states involved with different manufactures, consulting, testing, etc, etc.

i guess my point was who they (russia) would sell weapons to help generate more capital for energy expansion. unfortunately, DOD policy here for a while seems to encourage arming the arabs. we get to sell them guns, planes, ordinance and ammo for all of the petro revenue they have. but, some day this honeymoon is gonna end. and i'll bet we wish we hadn't sold them all those weapons. it will come back to haunt us. even this whole deal with selling armament to the new iraqi gov. what ya all wanna bet all that stuff will get shot back at us a some point? it kinda happend already with afganistan. we trained them boys way back when to fight the soviets. look at were that took us now.....

i was talking with local fuel distributor this morning and he recomended that we stock up on diesel fuel for the rest of the farm season. he said they are expecting things to get much uglier come fall. :( yay...........

I'm all for the 4 day week, but government workers, come on it's bad enough getting to the DMV with a 5 day week. Course I'd just spend that day not working doing something else that would probably entail driving.

I used to have a government job about 8 years ago ... Working for the State of Wyoming.

There were literally entire weeks all I would do was web browse....literally. The DMV looks roughly 1/8th as productuve as the department/division I worked for too

WTF?? The BEST cheap, powerful fuel is OIL.....just stop the insanity....WE need someone with a set of balls to tell the envirmentals to PISS OFF and the USA needs to be energy independant....

Supporting the ARABs has done nothing but give third world countries and religions money and power to FORCE issues/death onto the rest of the world....

As for OIL available to the USA....

North Dakota...

Alaska.....

off shore Gulf....

off shore California...

Texas...

on and on and on....

drill/refine and tell OPEC to piss off....BJ

BTW- I'm OLD enough to remember liberal DEMs scaring everyone in the 1970's ..."IN 20 years there will be no oil"......hmmm that was WRONG

Todays version...."Global Warming will....bla bla bla" Al Gore is a Dumb a$$...there is NO proof that MAN-MADE global warming exsists...

Global temps are effected by 3 things...and this is in order of importance...as in 95-96% percent important...

1) the SUN
2) the OCEAN
3) the CLOUDS

I love this new one....Lets FORCE mercury filled light bulbs onto the masses because Al Gore says so...but if 1 envirmental finds 1 spec of MERCURY in a stream somewere its a dam catastrophy....can you say INSANITY??

The only energy source that is NOT subsidized is OIL...the rest is pure political pandering BS...

E-85 = 7 gallons of water, 4 gallons of oil. FOOD and $$ from the gov. to make....anyone see a problem here???

My sentiments exactly.
it is truely amazing how ignorant people are.

the country has voted for these fools in congress, nobody is willing to tell the not in my backyard crowd that they are the cause of high prices.

We can bring oil prices down, all we have to do is open up the USA's vast oil fields that are off limits because of greenies, and supply will go up prices down.

you can blame the oil companies all you want, and nothing will change as usual.

we have to Quit blaming the Corporations, and put the blame where it belongs, with the american people. we allowed all the envirnmental madness to build and build, giving in to the nonsence. We need to fight, not give in to BS.

Keep blaming the successful, and all you will be is more bitter and angry.

when demand is high and supply is low prices go up.

when we drill for oil in our own country, we could flood the market with new jobs, and more oil to bring prices down. Its the only way.

just my rant.

BUT it takes 7 gallons of water, 4 gallons of fuel, gov $$ and FOOD to make 1 gallon of E-85...wheres the GAIN???

I'm curious as to your source on these figures?

Is corn based ethanol the end all?
I really doubt it.
Will it help us gain the technology to efficiently produce ethanol from cellulose sources (grasses, stover etc)?
Absolutely!!!!
Ethanol is here to stay.
You naysayers can take that to the bank.
I believe it is still in it's infancy.
The direction it grows will be interesting & exciting.

If we are gonna subsidize ethanol, it should not be on all ready subsidized crops. Or on biomass that will be bad for wildlife, and the environment. So corn I say no, but switchgrass, etc yes. And definitly we should be going hard core on Algea, that I think is the best choice.

blah blah blah.... Now tell us what you earn in US prices.
Our GDP(ppp) per capita is about 80% of USA:s, $36 900 compared to $46 000 and I would say that an average income, if you work full time, is about $50 000 a year. But we also have the world's highest taxes with a little over 50% of GDP, so I'd guess that I spend about 15% of my income after tax on gas.
My wife thinks it's a great idea and well spent money...

sooo much bs...

all I know is if deisel keeps going up, so will every product on every shelf in every kind of outlet. $$$$ will go thru the roof on all the above!!!!!

Al Gore-------oil man ???????

The last I heard, a few years ago when Al GORE first started on his current rant it was reported that the Gore family fortune was heavily invested in " BIG OIL", Occidental Petroleum I believe or maybe it was British Petroleum. Gee I guess maybe Al is not as dumb as we thought huh, talk about a HYPOCRITE !!!!!

What you all complaining about i'm paying $6.11 a gal with taxes  expecting to go up in the summer. For VES gold $16.00 - $25.00 a quart. Hearing on news that people talking about unleaded being high. For diesel is like $ 5.26 with taxes. Now thats some high price stuff there. I thought the thread was about high prices not wifes, woman, and kids.:D

Hey guys! Must say that you are one lucky people to have THAT CHEAP gas/diesel in your continent!!

Here is one example of living in Europe (Finland, where I am).. GAS is 1.50euros per LITER!! So it makes about 2.32106 USD

1 gal = 3.79 liter

So you would pay like $8.7968174 per Gallon!

and that is only gas. Diesel next.

Liter for diesel is 1.29euros = 1.99637 USD and it would make like $7.5662423 per gallon!

Anyone like to switch places with me? :D (also it is illegal to ride off trails over here, seems like that trespassing is related to murder or bank robbery if you are caught by police.. and so on..)

Also pick up truck like you guys ride, costs arount 60-90000euros = 92-$139000...

So quit whining and post some nice powder riding pictures for us less fortunate!!! :D :beer;

Wow.
That puts things in perspective.

What kind of average annual income are you seeing over there?

Sit through this for a while and then fume some more...

The dude working in Prudhoe Bay is right. Oil comes up at $3.00/bbl cost and billions of cubic feet of NG goes back down. We are being manipulated and that is the bottom line.

If you tow about 30% (boats in the summer, sleds in the winter) of the time with your diesel PU, you can show that it pays off in a total of 100,000 miles if you compare the consumption rates to your previously owned gasser.

If you really want to sled, you will find a way. It will probably at a reduced frequency than before, though.

Last numbers I could find where for 2002. An average salary then was a mere $36,764. If you are making 50k a year you are doing well. Course it depends on where you live too, some areas are more expensive than others. But across the US, just under 37k is the average.

It's beginning to get a little OT, but $50000 was my estimate before tax and including everyone, from the young girl at McDonald's to the CEO of Ericsson, but it seems I was wrong, as it is closer to $40 000: http://www.worldsalaries.org/sweden.shtml
Our net yearly income is apparently $1383x12=$16 596 : http://www.worldsalaries.org/allsectors.shtml
Or was, 2005.

It's amazing how low your gas prices are, so it sounds a little strange to hear you complain about them, but as always, it's the change that hurts the most. If you're used to low prices and they suddenly doubles, you don't get that much happier just because the prices are even higher in other places...
