Dega picks....................

Carl's interview was interesting.

"We'll keep racing like this until we kill somebody."

What exactly does nascar do? Put bigger plates on? Then everyone would be complaining about how boring the racing is when they're crawling around the track (relatively speaking). Take the plates off? Let these guys run 230+ around here? The only way they can fix it is not to come to daytona/talladega, and that will never happen. Lots of headscratching to be done by the powers that be over this one.

Either way congrats to Brad Keselowski for his first cup win.

There are many options.

Use a harder tire with less grip that would put the max speed in the hands of the driver who can best control his car.

Install a dogleg at some point in the track.

More aerodynamic drag (like the trucks).

Penalize contact drafting.

etc.

I don` understand what edwards meant about racing in those cages, he`s alive isn`t he, what a statement from someone who went through that kind of horrific crash got out of his car and almost sprinted to the finish line, whether it counted or not, My hats off to Nascar and the COT car and the safety they have incorportated in to saftety so far, and other cars earlier in the race that pile drove the wall headon and still got out of the car, alot of those hits looked worse that Earnhardt SR crash at daytona years back and unfortunately we lost the Greatest. lots of lives saved by the effort of Nascar.

I think when getting in to the last 10 laps and have major cleanup on the track they should stop the race so it don`t count down to green white checker of a few laps longer, that changes a major role in the outcome of the race. and is also boring to watch as the last exciting laps keep counting down.

Hope people in the stands are ok. Congrats Brad.

The problem with the cages is if a car is going backwards, lifts up from the front and goes over backwards and comes down on the lid hard the cages are collapsing. Pretty much all cage designs are for more foreward rolls. cages have been flattining the roof bars in the flips I described, lately, starting with the front pillar bars giving out.
Shoulder harness are tied to the upright hoop behind the driver. Another issue is that hoop (behind the driver) bending and injuring the driver when the front of the cage collapses, when the shouilder harness tightens or loosens from the rear hoop bending.

TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Eight spectators suffered injuries at the end of the Aaron's 499 Sunday when the No. 99 Ford of Carl Edwards went airborne and slammed into the catchfence on the frontstretch.

"None of the injuries are dangerous or life-threatening," said Dr. Bobby Lewis, medical director at Talladega Superspeedway. "It's mostly bumps and bruises with possible minor fractures."

Two women were airlifted to an area hospital, but Lewis said that was for traffic concerns and not because of the severity of their injuries.

"One has a lacerated lip and possible broken jaw," Lewis said. "The other person was not injured, but has unrelated medical problems."

Edwards was leading the race about 500 yards before the finish line when he tried to block Brad Keselowski from passing him. But Edwards hit the right front quarter panel of Keselowski's car.

It caused Edwards' car to spin before it came off the pavement and flew into the fencing above the outside wall.

"NASCAR puts us in this box [restrictor-plate racing] and will race this way until they kill somebody," Edwards said. "Then they'll change it. We're very lucky nobody got [seriously] hurt today."

When the car hit the catchfence, pieces exploded off the car as catch fencing bent back severely, but did not break.

"I'm not sure if it was pieces of car or pieces of debris from the fence that hurt the spectators," Lewis said.

Thinking about it a little bit more, they should just do away with the yellow line rule. I don't think they have that rule anywhere else besides daytona/dega. The whole reason why Keselowski didn't give an inch is because he didn't want to end up like Regan Smith from last year.

no, I think its somebody chit in yours madboy1818?
wtf did ya watch it or even comment if its a joke. lol!:D

Who chit in your wheaties today?
My comment was based on the fact that restrictor plate racing is a joke. Get over it!

I agree on the restrictor plate racing comment 100 %

He's not talking about the chassis. The main thing he's talking about is the yellow line rule at the plate tracks. Look at Regan Smith last year. He had no choice other than to go below or otherwise wreck Smoke and going down there cost him the win and a bunch of spots but he didn't wreck anyone.

actually I think he was talking about the box, cause his comment of not getting his head hit doesn`t seem to me he was talking about the yellow line.
I do agree with the post after mine on the hoop and the post collapsing. I always wondered about that myself on how the top of the cage and under the roof skin in reinforced to keep things from coming through or colapsing and breaking a drivers neck. Where is a crush zone in this part of the car?

But still think the efforts of safety have been well improved its just to bad that most the time something real bad has to happen after drivers have complained for a while and then changed are made after someone gets seriously hurt, but no one can predict every possible circumstance.
