Cutting Outer edge off ski?? anyone?

Ya I did this mod to the 05 900 Powder Pros works well with this sled turns out good on the hills as well as side hilling.

Here is picture of the one inch cut on outer edges of tales on my PowderHounds
on my XP TNT mod. Also a poor picture of the cut I did under the a-arms on my skid plate. It Is only 8.5" wide down the center, also left a flap on the rear that I bent up with a heat gun and fastened to the vertical body panel to the rear of the arms. The flap is to keep snow from packing in between the skid plate and belly pan.

The other thing visible on the 2nd pick is the addition of a grease zirk for the spindle bolt.

Good Luck

These two mods greatly increased ease of sidehilling of my XP which a lot of guys whine about.

How about on stock M skis???

Has anyone cut the stock Arctic Cat ski's? If so do you have a picture? How does it work on the cat skis? I think I am one of the few people who actually like the stockers, but there is always room for some improvement I guess.

Thanks
Jim

Just a update... This weekend... i cut both skies.. on the new Pro!!

WOW what a difference!!

Just dives faster..

Turns Quicker..

No.. push.. like it is staying on top of the snow not diggin in..

Side Hills... You thought stock side hilled well... It off the charts!

Great idea..

Works Well!!

And Free Upgrade!! well u still got to do the work~~

I got a free set of pilot 6.9's that Im thinkin about trying it on. it makes sense as to why it would help sidehilling.. as right now, when i countersteer hard, all the force is on the small corner of the ski tip, so to keep it out sidehilling your fighting that...

who knows.. those who have played with it seem happy enough.

I'll tell you this guys...

I tryed a small cut.. first.. really couldn't tell..

When laying a sled over all the pressure is on the spindle.. and the outer edge of the ski..

Trying to force the outer edge up.. always..

What we want to pow days.. is keeping the front of the ski up .. well to do that better.. the rear ski need less restance force up.. with cutting the ski.. is less force on the rear..

Why.. did i cut so much off..

Well in the garage .. flop your pro to one side.. look at the ski to floor.. pressure.. and flex.. you will see the outside of the ski will have the most pressure..

when you make the cut.. all of that pressure is gone!

now i can flop the sled over in the shop.. on the floor.. the sled and ski wants to just flop over kinda roll over .. with NO hang up..

Noticed when kinda going down hill and side hilling you want to go up or over just turning the skis. What pushes the sled down the hill is the outer edge of the ski.. not allowing the ski to get in the snow.. stock ski will try to stay on the top..

cut ski will dig in and turns.. and if you want to pull the sled over.. it is easy to do.. the rear the ski .. your not fighting with it..

OO.. fyi.. Less snow gets and stays on your skis also.. a Postive!!

lol..

Also.. great going down the trail.. didn't change anything there..

FYI.. Yes one skiing it is really fun..

Just a thought, but has anyone cut the entire outside edge of a Simmons GenII ski off? That way the width of the sled isn't any wider but you would have the ski lift/floatation from the extra width of the inside of the ski. Some places we ride in the trees, I have to make a new track between trees because the skis make the sled too wide to fit where others have gone.

I've been convinced that is the way to go since they came out. The new GenIII is an improvement, but the GenII minus the outer edge I think would be the ideal setup so you have the outside carbide always in contact.
