Crooked Creek Guest Ranch

Check out his videos from last year... I was pretty impressed with what they were finding

"theRABBITbutton" have you ever rode down here?

I most certainly have...I'm not taking anything away from union pass. I'm more concerned with misinformation being let out. Tog lodge guys DO NOT ride 15 minutes away from CC, (CCGR Guide I know you can back me up on that)... just from snopromod's response on where he rides has lost all his credibility (in my eyes). The snowfall, historically, is greater on togwotee pass (thats as simple as just looking up the numbers). CC is a great place to stay...away from traffic, more hometown feel, awesome owners, great staff, great bar, great food, great prices....the list goes on...never did I say you cant find snow there. I dont care about pictures...I dont care about how good your video looked... Hell you can make Nebraska look like an epic place to ride after a four inch snowfall and and some gusty winds. The point is, as stated, misinformation. I guess that's the sad truth of the internet.

My guess on your difference between Togwotee Pass and Union Pass; Location, location, location.

You want a Teton view??? You want to be right off the highway??...you want a shorter drive to/from Jackson??? Historically better snowfall?? Well of course that's gonna be more ching...whats more expensive a house on the lake or the one on the corner down the street???:face-icon-small-con

I was hoping you would also comment on the "no talent ego's" at tog reference...

Hey buddy we appreciate the complements! "snopromod" is one of our good friends and in his defense with a couple of mediocre winters everyone has been going out of their usual way to find snow. Which is a really good thing in my eyes, it pushes us to find things that we have never rode before. Nobody wants to ride 30 miles to find untracked snow, but sometimes you have to. With what I know every one of us guides were doing that last year.

To set the record straight it is almost exactly 43 miles from our parking lot to TML by trail. So there is a good chance either of us were within 20 miles of each other the last couple of years. This is what I'm thinking "snopromod" is getting at. Don't get me wrong Togwotee has some great riding, easily accessible and very fun. We may not always get as much snow as the Togwotee pass area but, we have less traffic which equals good riding too.

All debates set aside we are out here to ride and have fun. Does it really matter where you ride as long as you are with a good group of friends and having fun?

I forgot to mention you are right "theRABBITbutton" Tog guys probably don't ride 15 min away from CCGR and I don't ride anywhere near Tog, I go south for the winter.

You are very right CCRG....it is about snowmobiling in the end...not any of this bs...I didnt mean to call anybody out and am sorry for that. Hopefully snopromod can forgive me...

All I wanted to say is that I didnt want any misconceptions for people thinking that Tog is a stones throw away. Thats really all....

Crooked Creek, like I said is a great option for all people...good people, owners, food, bar, and so on...highly recommended. I hope all is well...and hopefully the snow really starts coming in soon!!!

BTW did you guys ever get a new TV in the bar....you know one without a bullet hole through it...????;)

Haha yes we replaced the TV but, a very good story!

The snow is coming we have rode a few times already this year it still gets warm so when we get snow it usually melts shortly after. It's been a very rainy summer so I'm hoping the moisture continues.

They are both good places to ride depends on the storms and how they come in I am from Dubois and currently reside in Laramie I have rode both the union pass area and togwotee and know guides from both places. With a good guide you can find great snow in either place and both places have good guides and decent accomadations

I'll add another for Crooked Creek. We have not stayed there (usually in a cabin over near Lava). But after some sled issues their shop helped me with a couple years back they will always be a stop on our list. We usally plan to ride out of there a day or two on our trip just to see some more of the area. The entire Tog area from the Mtn lodge to Crooked Creek is a great place to ride.

My honest opinion is that Crooked Creek and Tog Mtn Lodge are two completely different experiences and both are great at what they do. Heck when your in the area stop by both and say hi. I know at either you will find some damn good people to help you out!!!

See you guys in March!

CCGR and TOG

Amen to that, how can anybody spend anytime in either place on a sled, on vacation and not have a GREAT time is beyond me. Been at CCGR, LAVA, and TOG 13 years have stayed at all of them. Can not wait to go again this year, we will stop at them all, out for a week. In all the years we have been going we have met folks from all 3 areas, all top notch, wish I could say the same about my state. Reservoir Riders, MN USA Member

what was the question?

this dribble comes up often....
I believe the guy was just askin if Crooked Creek was an OK place to stay for a bunch of broke college kids...
It's probably fine.
Hell, just bring your tents or camper and sleep at the end of the road if you're worried about cash. Chances are it won't snow more than 6-8 inches while you're there anyway...
You're not going to be spending much $$ at the bar since you can't drink very well at altitude and the cases of GrainBelt that you've stashed in the trailer should last until your drive back to sea level.
Figure at least one night towing one of the old beaters you drug out from the mid-west back to the highway, missing any evening meal that was planned, and driving at least 2 hours to find parts.
And what are you really going to do during the day? You have no idea where you are, no idea where you're going, no idea how long it takes to travel and return, no idea how the geography effects the snow, and no idea what you're capable of. The end result will be turning circles in a meadow until it's as hard as concrete, watching each-other jump a drift until sled parts are needed, or digging endlessly because you (and everyone else) couldn't resist the urge to climb the steepest/deepest/tree-covered hill within sight of the trail.

Enough already.
I do miss those days...
But when is it time to progress?
