coquihalla conditions snow cond ?

It very sad and mad that when guys new to the area wanted to know how to get into Henning, 10 k ok fine on a nice day with low Avy risk is one thing but socked in Avy risk way high and they had no fricken clue ! Think last weekends slides might have saved few lives this weekend, people dummy the fuk up already !

hey sledhound, were you up there yesterday? a group of us went out and played around on the roads and some meadows, I couldnt believe how many people went into 10k and were highmarking the bowls, the snow was like something I had not seen up that way for some time for this time of year, deep, but like concrete once packed down, no one would have stood a chance in a slide in snow like that.

Yes was there on sunday there was three of us 05 black summit rev, 05 blue and yellow summit rev and 09 rmk, road back to have a look at the clear cuts pushed into a few but need about 3 to 4 feet before they will be prime. I told so many people that asked to stay away and the oh really response told me not good things, i went right by 10 k in the morning two tracks going in when i came back 2 hours later 20 + had gone in they were lucky. Really have to know where you are around the Coq and whats above you and below you Avys around there will run out into the trees no good, and your right the wieght of that snow can not help at all. Wonder if we passed on the trail think we only went by two other groups all day.

I was wondering if we passed you as well, we were on an 07 summit x, 2 08 XP's and an 09 700 RMK, I dont remember seeing your machines though, sounds like you got an earlier start, so you went past the 10k turnoff and rode in the cutblocks up there? We went down to where the Tulameen turnoff is, didnt look like there had been anyone in front of us that day, and continued on to the Champion creek turnoff just past 22k and made a run at deer mountain, there was a good amount of snow at the base of deer, but a little lower down and they still need alot more, I was suprised at the difference in snow in a matter of a few hundred feet. When we went past the 10K turnoff, about 10 sleds were heading up that way, and the trail was well used at that point, that was about 1030, I just don't get it.

We made it out passed 22 k after that not to sure of the areas, when you make it just pass 22k there is a split in the trail can go right or left all the tracks went left, If you go left does it take you towards tulamen and where does the right trail go ? And i think you guys drove by when we were up in one of the cut blocks we hit all of them from the parking lot out to 22 k then went back to the upper trail and hit a few more out that way.

I was up on saturday and we really shouldnt be climbing those hills....avy risk is pretty high but we tore up that hill really good.....everywhere we went we had not seen one avalanche that had happened...unless it snowed like 3 or 4 feet to cover it up but I didnt see any...

hey was wondering if any one had the coordinates of the 10k cabin

would like to view on my 3d mapping software

thanks

The way to Tulameen is about 1km before the turnoff to 22K there is a small yellow sign in the trees with an arrow, you make a left there, go through a cutblock and switchback down to a tight twisty trail that is prone to small slides even within the trees being as its such a steep valley. If you have ever taken the upper road into Tulameen, when you come into the town and onto the pavement you will see a lower road that merges with the one you come down on, this is the road you end up on taking that turn right before 22k, it basically follows the Tulameen river down the valley and into town. I believe the turnoff your talking about is the Champion creek turnoff, about 3-5 km past 22k turnoff closer to the river? those may have been our tracks, some others followed us up as well, was there a bridge if you were to make a left at the 3 way? If so thats the Champion creek turnoff, there is alot of riding from there into loadstone, whipsaw, deer mountain, olivine, and a ton of fun cutblocks to play in champion itself. If you continue straight and not take the turn to Champion, you will end up in some nice riding bordering manning park, if you look straight up on the passing lanes on rhododendrum flats on the hope princeton, thats basically where you end up, there is some good alpine up there, and a few nice climbs but a long trail ride in.

Its funny, that was my first trip in from the Coq side, its been my stomping grounds from the Tulameen side since I started riding, but I got thrown a few times coming from the other side, and have not much experience on the riding from the coq side, maybe we will have to meet up there one of these days, you can show me some riding on the coq side, I can show you some more deeper in.

srry for posting this on coquihalla forum but does anyone know how much snow is in tulameen?

not enough to ride from the door anymore, do a search for tulameen BC, it takes you to their website with a webcam shot on the home page, dosnt look good.

Was looking at the back road map book and we went towards britton FRS, if we would of not turn around we would have come out on it, wish i would have known that then would have just made the loop. Need to turn the GPS on more often to have a look when in dout lol. Think i will head out towards Champion next ride, have you been up the FSR around 18 K ? or the one just after ? kinda wonder where those ones go if at all anywhere, cause they do dead end on the map more then likely clear cuts i'm thinking. Yes we should meet up for a ride, i try to get out every weekend or every other weekend when time is short. Trying to get the crew together for a ride this weekend, will know more by weds thurs and will let you know.

Never been up the FSR near 18K to my knowledge, your probly right about it leading into cutblocks, but you never know unless you try, riding from the Tulameen side, we usually stuck to 22k or beyond, and never really did much exploring more towards the coq since it always seemed to be busier. I am also trying to get a couple guys together for a ride, will let you know as well when I hear more, aiming for a sunday ride right now.

not quite sure... roy isnt going because he has a leaking oil tank and a new one is coming(not in tome for tomorrow) but we are trying to think of people that know the area and are decent riders....got one but he is fairly new and on a 05 600(bought it from roy) but other than that we should have a pretty good day!!

I want to take a couple of customers out for an easy ride on Friday.
Can you get into Tulameen for lunch or is there no snow down lower closer to the town?
Any suggestions for a road ride and a few meadows? Easy stuff only.
I guess we could do the circuit up at Henning.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Doug
