The county should be proud of these guys/gals who volunteer their time in CC. Livingston is a long ways away.

Safety should always be a concern, but most of us understand that if you want to get someone out quickly the last call is 911... because once you have government involved... well they have trouble fixing potholes let alone doing a rescue... I'm sure there are exceptions, but usually the government guy/gal in charge is more into CYA than anything else... thanks to lawyers and politicians

Rick has been there longer than anyone. If he said it was ok, I would trust what he says. He knows that country better than anyone. If I was in Cooke and had my butt in a sling, I would be glad he is the one looking for me... not to mention the rest of Cooke City S&R

If CC S&R wasnt there how could anyone wait 4 hours...

Thoughts and prayers

Thoughts and prayers go out to this mans family. I just went on Thursday to a one-night avalanche safety class put on by the Glacier Country Avalanche Center and the USFS and it was a real eye-opener. It's a shame that this man's death has to be a reminder to be safe and make sure you have the proper equipment and know how to use it. I've seen the quote elsewhere in this forum and it bears repeating : "If a human is involved in an avalanche then mistakes have been made." Let's hope the situation in Cooke can be changed so the people who are right there when a SAR situation arises can respond quicly and effeciently.
