Colin Kaepernick - what a loser

The owners already let it get too far. If they try to stop it now here comes the likes of Jessie Jackson....king of the oppressed black males.

Why do they think the anthem is the time to protest? How about DOING something to cause change instead of looking like a dumbazz in front of fans. Surely there's a better way to protest.

Because it's getting attention. It's not the first time the anthem was used to bring attention to a matter. I mean it is a "protest". If you're protesting and you're not pissing someone off, you're doing it wrong. The entire idea of a protest is to piss someone off. If everyone agreed with why/what you are protesting you wouldn't need to do it in the first place.

I guess for me the bigger issue is those that chose to sit or stay in the locker room, that's totally disrespectful!! locking arms and kneeling is certainly better than that and could actually be considered a sign of respect.
I still don't really think it's the time or place but maybe I'm out of touch with the situation down there.

You know what's really funny about that?

until 2009—eight years and a new Presidential administration after 9/11—players weren't on the field for the national anthem and instead generally remained in the locker room. According to Smith's boy (and the researcher at ESPN who checked it), the switch happened "because it was seen as a marketing strategy to make the athletes look more patriotic."

So while we're all having so much fun with this, let's look at the stated reason for these protests, police brutality and the lack of accountability for it.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/05/17/us/nfl-kneeling-national-anthem.html?mcubz=1&_r=0

We looked at 15 high-profile cases from the last three years that rose to national prominence and increased racial tensions, often prompting demonstrations around the country.

What happened in 15 recent cases in which blacks
were killed by the police or died in police custody:

Fired------------------------------ 5 cases
Indicted or charged-------------- 8 cases
Settlement reached-------------- 11 cases
Officer convicted/pleaded guilty- 2 cases

Total settlements in these cases: $46 million.

Irresponsible police are costing people their lives, and the taxpayers money.

In those same three years I wonder how many blacks killed other blacks. Must not be a big deal, nobody wants to have "that conversation" because there is no one to throw the race card at.
In my opinion the underlying cause for 90% of this is lack of respect. People were never taught this at young age. Now as adults they have no respect for women, police or their country.

And how many whites killed whites? That's not the point. The people we are paying to protect us are killing people they shouldn't.

Is lack of respect an offense that deserves death? Would you respect people you firmly believed would take any excuse to kill you? (Whether that belief is correct or not is a different issue)

Obey the law enforcement officers and this all but goes away.
Way more effective than dividing our citizens loyalties.
If you feel that you were treated wrongly, pursue it in the appropriate manner. There are many lawyers out there chomping at the bit to make a name for themselves that will take these cases pro bono.

Well.....If I thought the cops were out to kill me I probably would try not to break the law.
I've been pulled over several times for BS reasons. Yes sir and no sir have seemed to work pretty well. I do know weather you think you are right or wrong, resisting will get you tossed on your head at best no matter who you are.

Should being disrespectful to an officer be a death sentence?

Police should definitely be held to a higher standard and punished harshly if they kill someone without cause. I think training is a bigger issue than race in these cases. I mean if an officer is going into a bad neighbourhood and has maybe had previous dealings with an individual they will be on edge, then if the individual is belligerent it puts the officer in a very bad spot.
An officer only has a split second to react and put shots on target if a suspect reaches for a gun. It's easy to criticize them but they put their own lives at risk every day, few people are up to handling that kind of stress.

Everyone here I assume is white. I'm sure there are a few that are not. Probably more Hispanics than any other race. Probably less than 1% of snowest is black, would be my guess. So to comment that what you do when you get pulled over and it's worked for you is proving the point of white entitlement. There are tons of videos where a black guy is getting pulled over for no reason at all and receiving a felony traffic stop for no reason other than he is black. There is a video where the district attorney of a surrounding county was stopped and totally mistreated. This is not okay. It's not okay for this to happen to any race but it is happening with blacks more often. The solution is not, "be respectful", because even in these cases the person being pulled over has not done anything wrong, yet is being treated like a 5 time murderer.

The last football game I watched

I don't really care cause I'm a Canadian and don't evan watch nfl. No way am I subjecting myself to that level of boredom.

Not Canadian, but yeah... Football. Give me Star Trek any day over football. Unless you're talking orginal series season 3.

The last football game I watched was at the stadium in 2000 when I was the drum major for my college marching band. Never been a jock. But I had to know the rules of the game & what was going on to let the band know when to play & what to play. Football players don't like it when they get a penalty because their pep band is playing at the wrong time.

I think the whole season, our team won 3 home games. The band was considerably better.

So getting pulled over for no reason and being disrespectful and resisting is the answer? I could have done that but I knew as white privileged as I am the outcome was not going to be in my favor.
