Co riders paying way to much for a pro!!

Set Up

I for one do not mind the extra cost. So long as it comes with a superior state of tune. Western dealers have a wealth of knowledge you will not find back east or on the internet. I got tired of wondering why the same stock sleds held rpms and ran better than mine. Then there is the whole service side of it that has been mentioned.
 
Ive heard of a lot of MI dealers selling sleds spring ordered for cost to get their floorplan quotas met before the season. Was that wa you guys did?
 
Man this sucks! with the dollar pretty much at par with the US greenback you get to see were getting screwed in Canada. My dealer here, Pro 800 155 is $12,500 before taxes! WE PAY 10% on top of that for GST and PST.
 
I got a 12 163" orange with 300-400 miles with 4yr warranty sitting in laramie Wy. I'd prob. let got for 10,500
 
U might get a better deal in wisconsin but if ur dealer is as unknowledgable as mine dealer is here in wisconsin expecially when ur buying a mtn sled. i would spend more money from a dealer out west and actually get some good info about the sled instead of some bs that makes it sound good. Plus when ur riding the mtns and have a problem a dealer in wisconsin is no good. Better chance for good service if u bout it out there. IMO
 
somthing to remember..i see it all the time at my local dealer here in CO... lots of people come in who have bought sled out of state or at another dealer (to save a few bucks) and come by to get "the setup" or needing service done asap.. well guess what.. his customers always get put to the first of the line in service and anyone who doesn't buy from him pays full retail... people think these dealers are making a ton of money.. what a joke.. we're lucky to have them in this economy. that's why you should support your local dealer.
 
One of my riding buddies just bought a 2012 155" with 0.1 miles on it with about $800 worth of extras on it for $9650. Crazy. I was looking at a '12 new at a dealer for $10,100 and I thought that was a decent deal.

You hit it Tim. Bottom line is that they don't make much money on those sleds. None of us want to get gauged but if these guys don't stay afloat we will eventually pay for it to get sleds from one or two dealers. One really big Colorado dealer already closed shop. I'm considering paying extra to support a local shop for my next sled. I don't blame a dealer for putting his customers (guys who bought sleds from him) in front of the other guys.
 
i'm sure the dealer has to pay shipping to colorado which would be more than getting one from a dealership just a couple of hundred miles away. when i'm looking at new sleds it seems the closer to factory you are the cheaper the sleds are...
 
I can buy a 12 0 mile 163 4 year warranty with a full wrap, skid plate, handguards, geared down and chain with custom helix/weights still in the box for $10,500. Im debating on a 13. Does this sound good to you guys?
 
Debatable but buying slightly used it where its at. One word comes to mind, STEALERSHIP......... I try my HARDEST to support local dealers but alot of time its cheaper somewhere else. I wouldn't say the price was outrageous or out of line but of course its cheaper somewhere else. I know alot of GOOD dealerships and alot of what i call Stealerships who overcharge. Some will fail, some will survive. Lets just hope the good survive!

-You are from the mountainless upper midwest
-The #1 selling mountain sled is $200 less at home then in Colorado
-Colorado one of the premier mountain riding destinations
-Colorado is having an epic snow year
-Market demand for mountain sleds tends to be high in mountain states especially during epic snow years
-You're sufficiently unhappy with your current ride to consider buying the #1 selling mountain sled in a premier riding destination during an epic snow year (which is why you're there in the first place)
-You and your buds spent about a grand in travel expenses just to get to Colorado but you're quibbling over $200 to get one of the few remaining #1 mountain sleds left in a premier riding destination state during an epic snow year.

Am I missing anything?

wow, dealerships have got the wool pulled over some of your eyes. You really think when you buy a brand new warrantied polaris machine that the dealership "tunes it", lol.

Not all are created equal. The biggest thing is to find a dealership you trust and does good work (if thats what your into, you know bringing things in).

But here is a little secret, all dealerships make money on service. So no matter where you buy the machine from they will service it, unless you really get in a pissin match.

I always shop around when I buy things brand new, vehicles, sleds, oil, tools, etc. why pay more?

Here is a scenerio, I was up at my cabin snowmobiling in the UP of michigan and went into Houghton powersports. They didn't have the 2012 600 pro rmk 155 I was looking for but they did have a 2012 600 rmk 155. I told them to shoot me their best offer. He first gave me 9000 BEFORE TAX!!!!, I said I would consider buying at 7950. he came down to 8500. I said I would think about it.

the next day I called around to 9 dealers in my area and bought my 2012 600 pro rmk 155 for 8300 before tax, from Bristows in MN. With tax, 4 yr bumper to bumper warranty and a cover I got it for 9600 out the door.

There is the math, basically I got the pro model for 200 CHEAPER then the one dealership selling a base rmk.

I own a retail store. Not sleds. I pay what my dealer asks for my sled. They prolly make about $1000 on a snow check from me. I am glad they do. I get EXCELLENT service. This year one of the sleds I ordered didn't come with the E start like I asked for. Of course they ate the cost of putting it on themselves. I do some of the work on the sleds myself but I do use the dealer for anything requiring special tools or if I am in a time crunch at work. They never let me down no matter the time crunch. They don't botch my parts orders either. They stock a ton of parts so most time I can get them over counter when I need them. Inventory is expensive. Also, they are stocking lots of aftermarket stuff that I can go into their store and handle before I buy. For all that I am happy they make 7-9% on my sleds. I also appreciate that they pay their guys a living wage so they can come in my store and buy stuff from me too. And their store is in an expensive part of town that is convenient to me on the way home from work or on the way into the mountains. I90 Motorsports in Issaquah WA.
 
i have noticed OEM parts are cheaper thru web order, places like shspowersports.com cheapcycle etc. i have not found a good one yet for polaris. shspowersports are typically 30-40% cheaper then what i was paying at tousleymotorsports.

competition is a good thing, especially when it comes to price
 
who pays asking price for anything besides groceries?

Some who drives thousands of miles across the country and needs a sled for their vacation.

The bottom line is that they cannot give you what you want if they don't get what they need. They are in a business to put food on the table. In one way i would love to be a dealer because of my passion for the sport. Knowing I would get up in the morning to be in my snowmobile shop. But I've seen how hard it is to make money on expensive sleds, mods that have gone the way of aftermarket and accessories that are inflated. All manufacturers require that their dealers have so much floor space, stock/parts on hand and accessories available. The dealers are already in the hole. However, I still need a compromise on what I buy!
