Chain case life Gen 5

Lower HYVO sprocket is also updated, there is no holes on the sprocket anymore. Should be even stronger than those 2020-2022 turbo sprockets. And NEVER heard failures on 20-22 turbos.

Those sleds didn’t have the two piece driveshaft tho. The 2022 driveshaft had a different driveshaft and bottom sprocket than the previous year turbos.

You mean 2023 had different? That is true.

2020-2022 were all the same, BW Hyvo parts.

My honest opinion is that new drive shaft is not the issue and fix kit sold by aftermarket companies is a waste of money.

Nope, the 2022 had a different drive shaft and lower sprocket than the previous years.
If you seen how much slop was in the 2023 driveshaft splines, you may think differently.

Can you explain how it was different than 2020-2021 and how is that relevant? US/CAN versus Euro there can be differences ofc. At least here in Europe 2020-2022 there was BW Hyvo chain and sprockets on the turbo.

The spacing on the 2022 chaincase side of the driveshaft is thicker, making the shoulder on the bottom sprocket skinnier. A 2020 and 2021 bottom sprocket would have to be machined to fit on a 2022 shaft.
I have a 2022 driveshaft in my G3.

I took my sled in to the dealer today. To get a recall done on it, (fuel line may leak.) According to skidoo, my sled vin # needs the update chain and gears. Dealer order the updated gears and chain and warranty paying for it all. See what happens.

I was one of the unfortunate ones that had my chain case completely come apart in February, did not get my sled back until May due to backordered parts. Lot's of fingers pointed at owners as the problem, didn't set tension proper, didn't change the oil etc. Glad skidoo stepped up for everyone not just the failed units.

it's great that doo is stepping up and it's also tacit admission of responsibility for the problem in the first place. seems if a company knowingly installs parts not up to the task and then those parts fail that there should be some sort of compensation. the timeline you mentioned is just about my and many others' entire sledding season.
also, if the rumor is true that doo used the weaker chains/sprockets because of a parts supply issue then a little more transparency would have been cool instead of the sudden and widespread campaign to "keep your chains tightened but we're not saying what's different about this year" but that would have likely interfered with snow check sales assuming they knew about it at that time.

Yes was a big chunk of the season, bought a boost for the rest of the year. I was told skidoo didn’t want to delay delivery times so sourced alternative parts. They 100% should have been more transparent.

I put a 2021 renegade drive shaft in my gen 5. Avid drivers, tki gen 5 kit with a gen 4 lower bolt mount.
Meaning your gears should be interchangeable?
Right?

This was brought up early in the season, there was alot of deniers saying “I haven’t had a problem”, and they didn’t. Theories about the adjustment screw backing out etc. Does not mean there was not a potential for failure, there was.
Now, question still remains tho, is there still a problem? Time will tell.

Really glad to see this. I put trust in skidoo and took a chance on getting a new 2024. Glad I did, knowing they stand behind their product.

yep I was in denial and said didn't have to adjust chain more than normal. Believed the brand ambassador had our best interests. The crow doesn't taste to bad. That is how we learn. I did ride the whole season with it in the back of my mind and it played into terrain choices we could tow out of. If doo hadn't come out with this campaign I was going to do it anyway.

The whole thing left me disgusted with the response from the doo ambassador. Paid schill that should stick to selling race rubbers. No credibility at all.

I will say caper You called it early and stuck with your findings so thumbs up to you. Obviously have a mechanical background

You people need to calm down. Ambassadors arent given that much of information from the factory if sometimes any. And their knowledge on problems is very largely based on their personal experience on their personal sled or riding group. If you have watched Muskoka Freerider, I think there was only one or two G5 chain failures during the whole season with all the people he was riding with.

Due to supply chain delivery issues Doo had to install old n.a. chain and sprockets to new turbos on North America. It was not the original plan. And it backfired probably even worse than Doo anticipated. In Europe there was a lot less problems as we had stronger chain and sprockets.

But now as all 23 and 24 turbos are gonna back to Hyvo, Im sure there will be a lot less issues with them. Some single failures might still occur ofc. but I would expect that no more large scale issues.
