I guess the mountain dodged a bullet in 2007.

Doesn't look very good right now :(

Not home to see it but it looks like pretty much everything in the hat six area is on fire and its moving west :(

*sigh*

My roommate is from Casper. His g/f's grandparents live near enough that it sounds like they're going to evacuate...Hopefully it rains a lot tomorrow.

The fire was pretty bad, but from the looks of it on the map, and from driving up there, it stayed off of Muddy, as well as the majority of the west side of Casper Mtn. However I'm pretty sure the shelter is gone on the east side... It goes right up to the road on the back Side of Casper Mountain, but doesn't cross. Looks like the majority of it was between Muddy and Casper Mountain in the valley part. I'm glad it stayed away from muddy, however I'm slightly skeptical and only time will tell until I have an easier means of exploring lol.

Yeah I was sort of hoping the shelter at Ponderosa would have survived .... but it sounds like it probably didn't ...

Anybody been up there the last couple weeks to check?

I can't say the shelter survived or not, but from living in Casper, I can say that the fires rolled right through there... And we've also had multiple structures destroyed.

I was staying at my cabin on Circle Drive when the fire started. Actually, I was downtown at the time and was not allowed back on the mountain for a week or so. Ponderosa burned. The museum at Crimson Dawn had fire around it, but it did not burn. If I remember correctly, there were over 20 homes that burned down. The fire started on sheepherder's hill just south of Casper Mt., it burned towards the northeast from there all the way to Hat Six.
