Carwin vs. Lesnar

I have to disagree, Brock can and will be beat and just about did, a different Ref may have called that fight as Brock was doing almost nothing but taking shots for about 15 seconds straight, the bottom line was that Carwin just flat gassed out. After the initial shots Brock took he backed off and ran and then got dropped, his eyes were a bit out of focus and he was not to far from being out. To his credit he was able to stick it out absorb the punishment and get back into the fight, had Carwin not run out of juice he would have put Brock out, but 3 minutes into the round Shane was out of gas.... The bottom line in MMA is that on any given night ANYONE can lose, all it takes is a mistake, a small mistake and you can get submitted or knocked out by someone not nearly as good as you. Brock showed he can take a punch and he showed some heart by staying in there under a lot of blows, but he also showed he can get hurt and flat does not like to be hit in the face by a guy with some serious power. Brock can and will lose again, the difference will be if he is able to become a more rounded and better fighter and come back and win again after every loss or every fight for that matter. He is showing signs of that every fight, but no fighter is so bad@$$ that he wins every fight every time particularly with the caliber of opponets that he will have to face.

Well said X2.

That is a very good way to put it.

What impresses me about Brock is the amount of improvement we see in his skills in each fight.

Would he have beaten Carwin 2 years ago? I'm sure the Carwin fans will say "Hell no!"
But my point is he shows no signs of slowing down as far as improving his fighting skills & reducing his vulnerabilities.

He will lose a few but will remain the man to beat for the next 5-7 years.

He still has to put some time in, he has ONLY fought 6 times in the UFC. IMO that is not enough to have gotten him the championship to begin with. He got in there with his name, he had not yet proven himself. He did prove himself against a very formidable opponant (Carwin). He is the man to beat and I hope to see a Carwin/Lesnar rematch in a few months. If Carwin changes his game and trains for more endurance plus strength/power it could very well go his way. That was his mistake for not being prepared and that is why he lost. All this time I thought that he was training to go the distance but I was wrong.

So I was wrong. I'll eat my humble pie, as will Shane. But, I truly believe that the better FIGHTER lost. Shane pounded Lesnar and the tape will show that Lesnar was hurt and covering badly. Shane had him but then the bell rang and Carwin was in a new world, the second round.

It's my opinion that the roles would have been reversed had Shane gotten Lesnar in a choke hold. Anybody could see that when those two men bumped gloves at the beginning, they were so close in size, reach and weight that it could have been anybody's game. Both men have massive and strong arms and I can see why there was a tapout. Lesnar would have tapped if Shane had him in the choker.

I will say that the rematch will be better, but Shane HAS TO TRAIN for a solid 15 minute fight and he must work on his experience on the mat. Both are impressive athletes but I still hold to my belief that Carwin is better. I can't wait to see them fight again. It was not an easy win for Brock and he took a major beating to get it.

Just so we are clear here...we ARE talking about the guy who was a 4-time NCAA wrestling finalist and won it twice?

LOL

No Doubt....:beer;

Carwin was the more experience fighter.... Carwin was the guy NOBODY could beat, let alone last a round. Brock took those sledge hammers to the face and they wernt enough. I had a mountain of respect for Carwin prior to the fight. But for him to come into a championship fight like that and gas out after the first shows he is not champion caliber......yet!

Brock did what he needed to do to win the fight. He came in prepared, showed a chit load of heart and put carwin to bed.....

Brock gave up a full mount for the head and arm choke. He could of delivered the beating right back to a gassed out carwin. I wish he would have, but then again he showed he had a deeper bag of tools to use to end the fight. IMO the more complete and way better fighter won.

They need a rematch but not until carwin puts together at least 2 or 3 more fights.

Over all that was an awesome night of fights.

Geez give it a rest already. Every fight Broock has had except for Heath Herring has been with top quality opponents, same can't be said of Carwin. what does he have to do to prove himself? Next time this, Next time that. Carwin was outclassed and would be more so in a rematch.
