Cantwell

heading up next weekend and was wondering if anyone knows a good place to stay? Cabins or Lodge doesnt matter. Gonna be taking my dad and a few of his friends up for their first cantwell ride. Any input would be appreciated...Thanks

Havnt stayed there this year, but I like Lazy-J's. He has some nice cabins, good food and a great bar! Make sure you try his wikki-waki-woo drink!

Lookin to head up towards cantwell on thursday or friday for the first time. Any advice as to where to pull out at and where to ride would be appreciated.

thanks, Jason

Here's some pics from Saturday's ride. The snow has definately set up since a week- 10 days ago. The weather was ideal but there could have been more powder. There was a ton of people down there, all the pullouts were nearly full. I was surprised to see the posted signs on the north side of the road, does anyone know what's that about. I know it's the native corp. that is doing it. I talked to one guy and he said they have people patrolling it collecting fees, he said he told them to stick it and rode anyway. I don't mind paying I guess, but how are they justifying the expense of paying two people, with two pickups and two snowmachines. It will take alot of $10 day riders to pay that cost. It's one of those Chitna deals it looks like, I would like to see the State step in and work out a deal so we can access the park.

We got a warning ticket two weekends ago and decided to call and see what the deal was. It was $75 for a pass to cross their land. It doesnt extend very far back towards the mountains and is very spaced out around the pull offs. This last weekend from the time we drove down on Saturday to the time we drove back to Fairbanks Sunday they had put a bunch of new signs up. Even if it is their land I think the signs are very ugly, out of place and should be taken down. It just makes me angry looking into the "woods" in the Alaskan wilderness and see orange signs every 100 yards.

hahaha what a joke, I hope the guys patrolling are on good sleds and can ride. Maybe Ill find out soon enough, because I would have told them to stick it too.

It was raining all day in Cantwell today, snow is already that super wet heavy slushy crap and will probably worsen quickly if the rain keeps up. Bring your waders!

i drove by on monday on my way to fairbanks and it didnt look like much.. it seems that there is a base and thats it.. it was snowing when i was passing through, but it was all wet, id say there was about 2 inches of new stuff on the ground.i never went back the same way , came back through paxson.
