Can someone explain the floating secondary?

The Secondary clutch slides back and forth on its shaft just a little. The purpose is so it can self align with the primary clutch as the rpms go up and down.

This is a great summation.

This reduces belt wear and friction/heat.

Hmmmm interesting,

Is there a kit to purchase for this?

I wouldn't mind doing it on my 07 440. It has the team secondary, so I am not sure if I can do it or not.

Move on the shaft? Not once the clutches are engaged. The "floating" secondary is so that the jack shaft bearings are not put under any preload which would have the affect of pulling the shaft towards the clutch side. The bearings used in the drive train do not have any side loading strength to speak of. By allowing the driven clutch to "float" an eigth of an inch or so you ensure that there is no side preload put on those bearings which would cause premature failure.

There is no kit other than a couple of washers under the bolt that slip inside the clutch shaft.

Ok, fair enough. I was not thinking about the fix mounted Doos. I had forgotten Doo did that.

I made my own and had no problems with heat issues in 07 like everyone else had. It's simple to make. Get a piece of aluminum stock the same dia. of the jack shaft, cut it about 1" long, drill out the center for the bolt, and install. Simple and works great, 1600mi so far no issues. It lets the secondary find it's "home" where it's happy.

i made one out of a short bolt, a washer and a 13/16" socket, does the same thing and it was all random stuff laying around the shop.

it helps more on the bigger sleds or one were the belt isnt aligned perfectly, make sure you put some anti-seize-the gray goup- on the jackshaft to help the secondary slide around.
