858 Updates Coming from AC????

Chewy22,

On the lower Right hand side of the G8 display you will see an ATAC icon. It will either be White or Green. If it's White then press and hold the center of the switch until the icon turns Green. This puts the handle bar switch into suspension mode and you can toggle between the suspension setting by pressing the switch left or right.
When the icon is White this puts the switch display mode, which allows you to toggle through the different displays. To me this seems kind of redundant as the display is a touch screen.
For me personally, I'm just going to leave the ATAC icon green all the time so that I can quickly adjust the suspension on the fly. Then if I need to toggle between gauges and GPS, I'll just use the touch screen which IMO seems easier.

I did get it to green but somehow it kept getting stuck on lock or unlock when I tried toggling left or right. Would not give me the 5 settings, soft, medium, hard, driver 1 and driver 2. I set driver 1 and driver 2, and hoping to just switch between those. Driver 1 - skis medium and rear medium. Driver 2 - skis medium and rear lockout. Once I had it in the green mode I kept it there and plan to keep it like that. Will just use the touch screen if I need to change displays.

In what situations are you guys use the soft setting. I’ve always just left mine in the medium setting because I didn’t want to take the time to manually switch them. The rear lockout does work great when you need it.

Third ride (70 miles) today in 24-36" of POWDER! Ran flawless, I think it hits hard and pulled 8100rpm constantly. No issues with anything other than ATAC. Will toggle between lock and unlock but does not give me ability to switch between drivers and settings. I assumed I stayed in driver 1 settings all day and just toggled lockout. Frustrating, because it doesn't seem to work like owners manual says.

Climbs phenomenal, especially in lock out. I am getting real use to chassis now and it is great in neutral but WFF will make this thing dance around the trees.

This is exactly what my ATAC was doing, frustrating!

You have to toggle one way to bring forward, other way to go back. Flip through the settings sitting still. Not a perfect setup, but I cant see a better way, personally.

2. Installed the track guards, you do remove the stock covers. Initially thoughts are iffy. I’m a huge fan of the Ascender skid plate and I’m not sold these will work as well. Time will tell.
You have instructions you can snap a picture of and post? My dealer installed mine over the stock plastic and it definitely don’t look right on the drive belt side. Figured they screwed it up. They also reused the factory screws on the hardcore boards where it attaches to the tunnel and pretty sure rivets are supposed to go there. Did you put hardcore boards on yours as well?

Thanks for your write up on initial thoughts. I didn’t buy this to ride trails but was hoping it didn’t cool worse than my ascender.

I also went with electric start. Put an earthx battery in it. I weighed stock at 13# 14oz and the earthX at 2# 8oz so some decent weight to shed there.

Sorry I don’t. Gave the dealer a little love, had them install when it was in for the mapping update. Here is a couple pics, hopefully they did it right.

I’m loving mine as well, no hiccups or bogs with og tune!! I’m at 8 hrs now and it’s crazy how good this chassis is.
Had a few friends throw a leg over and they all agreed it’s legit, even a boost owner. Conditions right now are fantastic for Dec here in pnw

I hope somebody posts a YouTube video on this.

I can sit in the garage and bring up Driver 1, Driver 2, soft, medium, and firm. I started today's ride with my ATAC in Driver 1 and the screen showed it as such. As soon as I hit my first hill and put it into "Lockout", my screen (lower right corner) only showed lock and I could only bring up lock or unlock the rest of the day. When I hold the center section of the toggle button it is suppose to bring up the ATAC options but doesn't. Only the lock and unlock options.

I will mess with it more but kind of already regret getting IQS. I don't know what I'm in half the time and that screen doesn't stay on long enough in the mountains to lock into the white mode.

To toggle the ATAC between suspension settings and lock and unlock you need to press and release the center button while the ATAC is unlocked (green) not hold. The push and hold is only to lock and unlock the ATAC system itself. When it is green the lower RH screen will show whether you are in suspension setting or lock/unlock. toggling left or right will cycle through whatever is showing in green. For example, if it shows lower RH green unlock you should be able to use the left and right lock and unlock. If you want to change suspension settings push and release the center button should change to suspesnion setting in green and show whatever setting it is in. Use the left and right to cycle through the 5 settings. You have to be patient with the switch and the gauge as neither are instantaneous.

The Arctic Cat instructions call for the accessory composite drive protectors to be installed over the top of the production ones. Chewy22 looks more sanitary though. As for the HDC running boards, the kit comes with rivets, and they should be used at the board to tunnel mounting 8 on each side.

Does Jensen machine make a set for the 858? I put a set of their billet rotor and chain case guards on my hardcore alpha super quick install and they are nice looking to boot 😎😎

Well, its clear that you dont know what your talking about. Guessing as to what someone is using in there sled versus some that knows whats in his sled...

Thanks tho.

Well he has said many times on his videos that he rides stock helixes and those are with 42 end angle. I have asked him also while back and again he said the same. So where is your information coming from?

This is again factually incorrect. Please stop giving advice when you clearly have no idea what your talking about.

Okay Im so sorry. I tell my clients and friends return their trophies and everything, clearly my powertrain adjustments and principals didn't work. Latest championship was from this summer, too bad. :(

Caleb runs a good clutch set....He doesn't ride shallow helix's, just clutching that works correctly. Turcotte runs ibexx and took it out as it doesnt work well.

Can you define "good clutch set".

You are providing zero information and all just assumptions.

I have given solid advices how to get dialed in easily. All you do is talk and talk and that's it.

Can you answer this simple question: If you have 850-900cc modern naturally aspirated sled, you want it to be revvy and light on throttle, what is a good helix to use?

Thanks for the info. I might have to switch em back and forth and see. Mounted on the outside doesn’t really look like it belongs to be honest. At least my dealer followed the instructions. The boards on the other hand they obviously did not follow the instructions.

Stock Boost helix is a straight 46. Stop guessing at this... its clear you have no idea what your talking about.

I was playing around will my ATAC today and I see what you mean, as mine does the same thing. Once it goes into lock/unlock mode it wants to stay there. The only way we could get it back into normal ATAC mode was to press and hold the center of the switch until the ATAC icon switched from green to white and then pressed/hold the center of the switch until the ATAC mode turned green again. From there it would switch between the different ATAC suspension modes. Even at that it was inconsistent with trying to change the ATAC icon from green to white.
Basically, the sled wants to stay stuck in lock/unlock mode. To me, it seems like that this is more of a software issue as opposed to a switch concern, as it quickly goes in to lock/unlock mode when using the same motion on the switch.
Hopefully Cat will come out with a calibration update for this as I can see where this would be frustrating.

Exactly what mine does. Needs to be fixed!!

I asked Justin, who knows everything about the G8 gauge. Here is his response on the ATAC function:

Hey Brian

There are no software glitches that I am aware of. One thing to know is that the center press is a little finicky... Many people often don't press the center and will select right or left by mistake

Here is how the ATAC options works on mountain sleds with lock out

By default suspension adjust is disabled (white ATAC icon)

Left and right press: will toggle between the four main display screens

Center press: will activate ATAC profile adjust ( green ATAC icon)

Left and right press: will cycle through all five profiles ( soft, medium, firm, driver 1, driver two)

Center press again: activates lockout mode (Green ATAC icon with lock symbol)

Left and right press: we'll toggle between lock or unlock. This is locking or unlocking the rear shocks

Center press and hold: this deactivates ATAC adjustment and goes back to normal operation which is left and right press to switch screens on the G8

I thought the green unlock/lock was locking the setting you selected. I was not aware it’s just locking/unlocking the rear shock. That is actually really cool, because that is what I want on the fly, locking and unlocking the rear shock! Learning….
