i tried to ride on july 5th. there was people riding from dutchman but i don't know how they were getting to moon. the flat was totally melted then. i tried from the todd lake road but no luck. i think its over till next year :( might still try though!

I rode up by moon today!

rode my ktm from sunriver to the upper broken top trailhead a few days ago and saw the moon coming up over moon mt. I hiked around the area a little and realized I need to bring up my pickup and some garbage bags to help support my bumper sticker that says snowmobilers leave no trace, beer cans everywhere, it was pathetic.

Did you see a shovel handle on moon?

forcast that i heard was calling for SNOW! above 8000' feet. its only august and winter is almosy here! :p

Yeah, i noticed the same thing when i rode my husky up there a month or two ago. Very, very bad PR for us because a lot of people drive up there to go backpacking and hiking, and many of them are people who are probably already inclined to ban or limit snowmobiling.

Hell, after seeing all that crap up there, i practically wanted to limit it myself! I love my mountains up there, it is so beautiful, summer or winter, and nothing ruins it like garbage. Worse, it was all cheap beer cans. Nothing helps snowmobiling's image like a beautiful alpine landscape covered with Busch Light cans and candy wrappers. :(

Please everyone, be extremely careful to clean up after yourself, A: because it's the right thing to do, and B: because we might not be able to continue to ride if we make a mess of the land.

Just a little follow up on the garbage issue, my son alex and I spent part of an afternoon up there and pulled out a giant garbage sack of junk off of moon and the surrounding area. A lot of the cans were grenaded so probably blew up on the rough trail on the way in. Bottles, quart size bottles of heinekin, wtf? Why would anyone bring in glass? any way some of the stuff was years old and maybe not as bad as I first thought or maybe someone else cleaned up too! A couple of bowhunters with xr type dirtbikes rode all over the roadless area and as we hiked into broken top bowl I saw their tracks on some of the trails on the way in there. They were camped at the ditch flat area by the ditch crossing. not really a rant, just info on whats going on up there. snow is coming soon, see you then!

SWEEEET! I plan on doing Elk Lake and Paulina for New Years, looks like you guys have enough snow down there.

Wayne:D
