Some great choices, some poor choices. After all, he's a human.

Exactly....bad choices - Katrina, failing to quicky act on terrorist intel when he took office that obviously Clinton failed on too, WMD's in Iraq and he openly admitted that mistake, but it DEFINITELY diverted the terrorist's energies to fight us there, not here! HMMMM Al Quaeda is the main objective over there right? Are they not our #1 ENEMY since 911?

Accurate intel since the invasion of Iraq has kept us there fighting our enemy that met us there.

Successes....reaction to 911 and the continued fight against a real enemy of the US.

I found this article written by somewhat of a liberal journalist...listen to him:

President Bush's underappreciated successes

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

By Raheem Hosseini

President 44 is set to take his oath of office today amid a deepening global recession and stubborn, confounding conflicts overseas, while President 43 is riding off into the sunset like the post-digital age cowboy he is: the horse called America is about to collapse from synthetic heat exhaustion. But not before one last go-around with the pilgrims in the Washington, D.C. press corps and at home in front of their flatscreen depression-inducers last week.

At times testy, defiant and superficially reflective during his valedictory press conference last Monday, President Bush didn't dwell long on this liberal myth called "mistakes" and forcefully batted away notions that the Iraq war, Abu Ghraib scandal, Hurricane Katrina response and the rest of his greatest hits would require an image makeover from President-elect Barack Obama, currently selling out Spider-Man comics with a brief back page appearance while Bush wonders whatever happened to his promised Green Lantern team-up.

But this was D.C., not Baghdad, where journalists are more concerned with how their footwear plays on camera than how aerodynamic it is. The president's claims were not contradicted and he wasn't asked many follow-up questions, including an obvious, "Um, how so?" to this humdinger: "Not having weapons of mass destruction (in Iraq) was a disappointment." The press corps probably assumed he meant "find," not "have," and likely inferred the president meant he was disappointed not to locate weapons he suspects were there, not that he wishes Iraq actually did have nukes just so the 2003 invasion and six successive years of brutal, costly combat would be justified.

I get it. With just days until a new administration and the improbability that anyone in any position of actual power and influence would demand accountability for past misdeeds, I'm tempted to live and let die, too. I feel like a marathon runner who just slogged hip-deep through eight miles of sewage. Sure, I can try to seek satisfaction from the organizers who plotted our route, but truthfully I'm just glad to be done and eager for a long, scalding shower. For a day, at least, I'm keeping my shoes on.

So, in the spirit of reconciliation, I'd like to point out the handful of things our starcrossed commander-in-chief did right. Those interested in savoring the good times should read slowly.

- AIDS relief in Africa: This is the big one for our embattled president and where his 2000 pledges of compassionate conservatism actually shone through. More than any other sitting president in history, Bush focused American capital on fighting a disease that continues to ravage African nations at an inordinate clip, spending $15 billion to expand prevention, treatment and support programs in 15 countries overall, a dozen of them African. According to the Associated Press, Bush's war on AIDS has helped more than 2 million Africans get treatment, and was hailed as a success by both parties last year, when Congress promised $48 billion in aid over the next five years.

- Immigration reform: Wait a second, you might be thinking, wasn't this one of the president's most colossal domestic policy failures? A mere technicality, I submit. The president, a former governor of a major border state, gets big points from me for going against elements in his party and arguing for a more humane approach to our neighbors to the south. Sure, his approach included some screwy proposals meant to appease extremists who forgot their ancestors were once immigrants, too, and Democrats opportunistically piled on just to embarrass the guy, but this president provided one of the several, imperfect thwacks that will ultimately break apart this boulder of misdirected suspicion. Without Bush's losing attempt five years ago, the conversation on immigration would still be mired in Lou Dobbs histrionics.

- Contribution to the arts: Another head-scratcher, you say? Hear me out. Popular culture becomes an absolute bore under conventionally successful presidents. Remember the '90s? How many landfills are now saturated with misbegotten tons of No Fear t-shirts and Hammer pants? But plug in a Nixon or a Carter and watch compelling advancements in music (that thing we now call classic rock, the punk movement) and cinema (Coppola, Spielberg, Scorsese) explode. You don't even need a struggling commander-in-chief necessarily; external factors like wars and depressions also prompt inspired ruminations (film noir, "The Grapes of Wrath"). Fortunately or unfortunately, we had a shepherd's pie filled with all of the above the past eight years. My iPod, for one, will be eternally grateful.

Don't you recall his whole campaign was about fixing everything? Then when he was actually elected he retracted that and said well it may not be the first four years or it may take the next term. The arrogant a$$ already thinks he is going to serve 2 terms!

I ran out of reps. It is funny to note that Obama ran on change. Bush never relented on his belief that putting a pro western democracy to separate Iran from Syria right in the middle of the middle east is was a good thing. We can continue to see the middle east as a volatile area. But when someone decided to make true change in that corner of the world, America lost stomach fast. Change? Obama? bull****...america voted to retreat to passivism as quickly as possible.

BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't have said that any better! You hit a hole in one on a par 5!!!!!!!!!!!

The media tore him down bad. Only point out the bad things and none of the good. I agree with 90% of what he did and disagree with 10%. But your not gonna make everyone happy all the time.

I agree with an earlier post saying in years to come he will be viewed as one of the greatest leaders this country has ever had.

So the Dem tards can make fun of his speeches all they want but he reacted fast to 911 and kept this country safe over the next 7 years. Which to me is more important than any amount of money

Bush kept this country safe from terrorism and for all of us on this site he protected public land. Any of you ride on thousands of acres of your own? I ride on National Forest. Do you think that axcess will still be protected? Speaking of drinking the bong water.

:beer;:beer; Our new king and the libs are already beginning to shut much more down than Clinton ever thought of. Bring it on Forest Service (you wanna be cops)...all the judges and prosecutors here are my brothas...including the feds.

gonehuntnpowder....I feel ya when it comes to sldgy....WOW

...and Sawyer I am right with ya. I agreed with about 90 percent and not 10 percent. He stood his ground despite all the negative storms that swarmed him. He held to his beliefs and values. That is a true leader....a true man!

The impending financial ruin of our great county might be by some considered a bit of a snag!

and as far as being embarrassed, I was in this town long before you and your red neck cronies found this beautiful part of the world

which stooge are you anyway, dumb, dumber or dumbest

Name me one thing the Democratic controlled congress has done in the time prior to this downturn to stop it from happening?
I truly believe they have done everything in there power to make this recession happen, just to throw this last election. Now that were are in turmoil, anything good that will happen, they will take credit for it. It sickens me!
George Bush will be thought of in history as a good war time president. That, I will take your bet with. Just send me your grand, and if you win in twenty years, I will send it back with another grand attached to it....:D

So you want to explain to me how Bush put us in the situation? We are in a global recession brainiac! I suppose the global recession is Bush's fault? Greedy CEO's and big corporations have nothing to do with it?

My conservative family has been in this area for generations, they have farmed, they have toiled on this land. They literally found this part of the world. Dumb a$$es come in all ages, sizes, and shapes... including yourself. So take you entitlement and shove it up your a$$.

You don't even live here but if you must know what I was doing, I was working trying to replenish the countries empty hoppers. You know the one's that the idiot depleted during his 8 years of excessive spending, mismanagement and complete fiscal irresponsibility.

If you are a farmer....hats off for that. I can respect what you do, but your warped position on issues...never!

which entitlement would that be red neck farmer boy

"I was in this town long before you and your red neck cronies found this beautiful part of the world"

If that isn't an entitled statement I don't know what is!

...and I don't farm...I have a college degree and I work for the state and federal government.

...and if you want to disrespect farmers, now we have some real issues.

ummm....

the Clinton administration, in 1999, loosened the restrictions on borrowing to allow risky lending to low income borrowers. This opened a floodgate of lending which caused the real estate bubble. Greater demand caused housing prices to increase. When interest rates increased in the past few years, and energy costs went up the bubble burst as people started to default on the loans, which caused a increase in the supply of houses. With too few buyers home values dropped below the cost of the mortgages and people walked away and Fanny and Freddie could not guarantee the huge losses, and lending institutions failed and the market hemorrhaged. Something that George Bush warned of in 2003.

Even back in the Carter administration the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977 demanded banks lend throughout the communities they serve and required them to offer loans to people who were not credit worthy.

Now we have to pay $700 billion to cover this little bit of social engineering that occured when democrats held the presidency.

Keep in mind that congress has been democrat for 2 years. What change did we vote for? I think status quo for the last two.
