Buff Pass conditions

Rode on Friday and had amazing snow all day, it was bumper deep at a minimum, most places were up to the windshield, the base was solid and didn't hit anything all day. It was a great blue bird day!

Yes Friday was amazing. We didn't get more than three miles from the truck and had great snow all day. Ah man that is a bummer, it is probably lost for good with how much snow they got Sunday.

Rode buff pass for the second day today and it was another epic day. A foot fell overnight last night on top of the three feet of fresh from Monday. If you’re looking for a place to go tomorrow go to buff pass. Don’t ride over from dumont lake though, the trail is beat to hell and hasn’t been groomed in over a week. It’s probably the worst I’ve ever seen it. Not sure what the problem is, if anyone know why it’s not getting groomed I’m curious to know...

The trail 1A was groomed from Dumont to the towers 1/10, 1/16, 1/18 (only went 1/2 way north), 1/19. The snowmobile club from steamboat, routt powder riders, are the ones who groom on rabbit ears. They post on the Colorado snowmobile association website grooming reports at least once a week saying what trails were groomed and when. Generally it is not very effective or safe to groom the trails when it is snowing heavy.

Looks like you timed it perfect for riding deep powder but not for riding a groomed trail.

Coming out friday to right saturday-tuesday and staying in walden. we normally like to switch it up a day or two and ride different areas. Am i correct by assuming riding out of grizzly creek over the weekend due to normally less people riding out of there. Then waiting until monday or tuesday to go down to rabbit ears?

Yes, the two times I've been there the crowd in the parking lot is smaller at grizzly creek than RE. One issue that is possible to run into at grizzly is that it is on a less traveled gravel road and if there is much new snow you will struggle getting to the lot. We got our trucks stuck several years ago about 3 miles from the lot and luckily the grader came along and pulled us out then we followed him into the lot.

If anyone wants to shred and slay some Knar let me know. I’m ready to go! The forecast is predicting some good snowfall this week!

Unfortunately I’m headed home Saturday morning. Rode the ears today. A little thin still but still a blast. Is there more snow at buff?
