Hey Himark,
Our crew is well rounded, and super experienced.
That was extracted from the call rom the news.
that portion of a statement was made to not bring fear into the wives,
Insted, 10 words were used out of my statement.
It is what it is.![]()
akstormin,
I am BCAlpinejunkie, the rider that survived that was caught on video in that slide. There was no bragging going on, that is how us true Sledheads talk....
That day wewere a group of 6,we triggered a total of 4 small avalanches that day. Each of us has a minimum of 10 years riding experience. No trails where we ride, just steep and deep.
Thats how we roll.
I personally have 12 years of West coast mountain riding experience.
The video clip you reference captured the largest slide i have triggered or encountered.
For obvious reasons, I was elated that my skills had me stay calm, not panic, and get to the side of the slide, which is what we are trained to do.
This year has taken 19 lives locally, Climate change is creating crazy snow conditions.
ALWAYS Be aware of the riding enviroment and snow conditions you are riding in, review all aspects of the enviroment you are in , discuss safety concerns and strategies with the group continuously throughout the day.
Take note that my entire group was fully aware and on top of my situation, ready to respond...
I didnt even have to pull the ABS bag.
Choose your riding partners carefully, You need to trust you riding partners with your life.
BCAlpinejunkie
I have set off avys in the 10 years that I have been riding, but I now have alot more respect for the power of some of these slides. After the first slide, you guys should have altered your riding for the day. After the second slide, you should have realized the avy danger was very high and altered your riding for the day. After the third, well you guys are just being stupid. As for the fourth slide????? Your total disregard for the conditions shows arrogance and stupidity. Sooner or later that attitude will get somebody hurt or killed.
NAILED IT!Rep to ya!
Let's just hope the people they hurt or kill are themselves. Not the innocent group who were unfortunate to be riding somewhere below them.
"Arrogance" as you mentioned, is the key word here. Just read the comments in his posts.
DIDNT NAIL IT! Rep to ya!
We all know it's real easy to sit here and be a tough guy and bash people's character over the internet. I for one have seen BCAlpinejunkie help numerous people out over the years time after time and do it with smiles. To claim arrogance is so far from the truth it makes me laugh. Anyone who knows him would also vouch the same. I understand that the scenario may seem "stupid and irresponsible" in some peoples eyes and that is understandable. I can also think of another time when a girl died on the icecap and 1 of the 2 people out of a hundred who was capable and not panicking and attempted to save the girls life was also BCAlpine. Lets not think for a minute that if YOU were caught in a FREAK slide (since so many of you claim that you would NEVER be on a AVY prone hill) that we as a group would not be at your side in a heartbeat trying to save your life. Sledders should stick together because when the chit hits the fan you don't have anyone else to help you. I will also add that we had moved from the area where the first few VERY small slides had happened and felt we were in a more secure zone. On that note the basic rules apply to us as to anyone else. 1 rider on a hill at any given time and no high-marking above others or anything of that nature. Just my 2cents. Flame on and ride safe.![]()
we never said that we dont ride on a hill that may be prone to sliding. we do carry gear though that can increase (not guarantee) our chances for survival. If playing in an area where a slide may occur i make absoultely sure everyone in the group knows it. if a slide does occur you can bet your *** i will alter my riding until the snow gets to a more stable pack.

here he is. activity says he is replying to this thread.
As stated before by someone, If you guy's started four (4) avy's that day then you were doing something wrong!
Then to come on here and get attitudes becouse you have "experiance" and carry the right "tools" just doesnt set right with me.
I dont care if you guy's are the best riders on the planet (and trust me your not) and have all the experiance in the world. What you did was risky! But the arrogance is more than I myself am willing to deal with!
Rant over!
Have a great day!cool

Look how the thread was brought about and the responses that were applied prior to BCA responding. How would you respond? Look at the big picture. 1000's of rides and NEVER once a day like that. The funny thing is your reply seems arrogant to me with your "best riders on the planet" comment and "more than your willing to deal with". After all this is the Internet and this is a public forum so type away![]()

Ive seen a few posts on here now where this was happened. I think a lot of people are too quick to point fingers and flame away. If you weren't there kinda hard to judge the situation. Ive seen more avalanches this year then in many years including some i have been on that have slid during the week I wasn't there. We all take some chances in everything you do yes some are preventable others arnt. take the knowledge and learn try to be safer and do it better. As far as some one saying hope they only kill themselves come on that's just stupid no one needs to die even the people who are trapped below as they shouldn't be below a sled on the hill where an avalanche can occur.
give it a rest I don't care who you are you take chances when your sledding when there is an avalanche danger whether you on the hill or not. How Come the guys in the bis thread arnt getting this much crap for being on a hill when there is an avalanche danger.

Skills don't help when you are rapped around a tree backwards. Until you have drug one of your "highly experianced buddies" out of the woods in a blue tarp like I (and several others) have. You really have no clue. There is no glory in that. It's no joke man. Snowmobiling is my life and after what I went though a few weeks ago I'm ready to call it quits. I have lost 3 personal friends a different times to avi's and knew 1 more. If you have seen what I have seen on the mountain you would reevaluate some things in your life. That's how I roll.
