Bragging about an avy??

With all the attention that gets put on this site about avalanches, and especially all the heartache and sadness that happens when there's a death (which is waaay too often!!) these two videos blew my mind.

Just to clarify, these videos are not of me or my buds, I just happened across them. Am I not understanding it correctly or are these guys actually bragging about who started the biggest avy. In the second video you find out they started 4, "but its not that dangerous because they're very experienced and have all the right gear". Are you kidding me??!! I am truly at a loss for words.

The words..."natural selection" come to mind. To flirt with mother nature like that is to ask for tragedy. We have enough already, don't need more.

Good post, thanks for sharing.

Sounds like Cliffy in the background.

I like how he stopped up there and looked back at it. What a smart feller.

Agree with BroT. :
"Natural Selection" does come to mind. This is exactly my point on why it's getting tiresome posting condolences every time someone gets caught up in one of these "Natural Section Eliminators". Sure, some freak incidents have occurred but how often are these deaths taking place in situations exactly like the one these idiots are "intentionally" placing themselves in?
My heart goes out to every one of this season's victims families and friends. Could your pain and sorrow been avoided? Who knows. Has anyone heard an avy survivor say this year, "yeah, we were definitely somewhere we should not have been". :rose:

what a bunch of morons. sure am glad they had the brainwave to put that on the news. :(

I'm sure SAR will be so thrilled when they're called out to a snowmobile avalanche in Whistler.

Way to make us all look like dumbazzes is all I have to say. So ignorant.

I used to play with firecrackers as a kid!! Does that make me an experianced bomb technician???

What a couple of retards!!!

I dont see what the big deal is. Didnt you hear the news lady? They have all of the latest equipment, including shovels and satellite phones!

Thats great. A shovel so they can dig up thier bud's body..........and a satellite phone so they can phone his wife and kids.

Happy to be alive

akstormin,

I am BCAlpinejunkie, the rider that survived that was caught on video in that slide. There was no bragging going on, that is how us true Sledheads talk....
That day wewere a group of 6,we triggered a total of 4 small avalanches that day. Each of us has a minimum of 10 years riding experience. No trails where we ride, just steep and deep:).
Thats how we roll.
I personally have 12 years of West coast mountain riding experience.
The video clip you reference captured the largest slide i have triggered or encountered.
For obvious reasons, I was elated that my skills had me stay calm, not panic, and get to the side of the slide, which is what we are trained to do.
This year has taken 19 lives locally, Climate change is creating crazy snow conditions.
ALWAYS Be aware of the riding enviroment and snow conditions you are riding in, review all aspects of the enviroment you are in , discuss safety concerns and strategies with the group continuously throughout the day.
Take note that my entire group was fully aware and on top of my situation, ready to respond...
I didnt even have to pull the ABS bag.
Choose your riding partners carefully, You need to trust you riding partners with your life.

Not that playing with avies is a joke, but i think a lot of people seem to miss the point of ya know, you play in terrain like that, you WILL set of slides, its just part of riding steep, deep and OPEN terrain. Seems to me like just blowing off a little steam, i know i have almost been in some car wrecks, or crashed my sled pretty bad, we always joke about it. Its not a competition, but some of us just naturally throw some sarcasm in to deal with fear, i know I do.

I think we should all be a little less judgemental on what others do, the guy was very lucky, and if you pay attention to a LOT of the comments it seems obvious to me that they realized how big and dangerous these things are. As for the second video on the news, well, i take pretty much everything they say with a FEW grains of salt, they quoted him on maybe 10-15 words, when I imagine they had a decent lenght interview, so not saying they are being the smartest and safest, but lets not be so quick to judge.

Yes but they are..... "well trained with shovels and satellite phones" I guess they have nothing to worry bout:rolleyes:

Having a name like Himark I'm sure you have never been on a slope with any danger value right:rolleyes: Anyway if you actually believe that you are hearing word for word what was said to the reporter than surely you were born yesterday. Yes I was there during that incedent and nobody in our group encourages or brags about dangerous actions on the hill.

Thanks Ski-Dooin' it,

I was lucky, and i handled it to my satisfaction.
Easy to be critical, especially with miss information.
Dont go there. That's how wars are started.
>>Until you are in a life or death circumstance, you dont know exactly how you will respond.
When the ground beneath me went " LEGOLAND" and started to flow, i headed for the side door without hesitation.
Once the ground stopped moving, looking back to ensure my safety, i stopped to ensure that the slide was not continuing down the mountain further, making sure to keep my friends safe.
So EAT ME, and my farts Scotty~lol.
FYI, camera was a mile from where i was up top, pretty hard for you to know what a safe distance would be from the situation.

Hey Himark,

Our crew is well rounded, and super experienced.
That was extracted from the call rom the news.
that portion of a statement was made to not bring fear into the wives,
Insted, 10 words were used out of my statement.
It is what it is.
