Bought a Summit after 15 years of Polaris

Well I bought a 2009 800 Summit X Hill Climb Edition with a 154”.
This is my first Ski-Doo after 15 years of Polaris. So tonight I begin looking at the Ski-Doo section for help and learning.

So far it seems to be a ***** to get up on 1 ski for side hilling. I’m not sure if it is the wider front end (of the HCE) or the sway bar. Not helping was the marginal snow I was on today.

you should sell the xp and get an 06, or a new Dragon. lol:beer;

You won't be sorry a properly setup XP will make a 07 and older rev and dragon look silly. You won't be sorry.

Remove the sway bar and it will be easier to side hill, but the XP is not as easy as a poo to sidehill on hard snow. In powder and under power though they are a cake walk. I rode poo's since 94 till last year and have not been sorry once yet.

Welcome, cut the outside of each ski off ( to the next rib so it looks like you have a single plastic runner on the outside ) and move your handle bars back. Then watch wear you stand on the boards. turn your ski to the outside and commit. Takes practise but you will love it.

Throttle Junkie - The proper set up is what I am in search of. I have been reading all evening trying to learn what to do.

I hope to find some powder before vacation is over. I really want to get some time in the powder. I put on 55 miles today outside of West Yellowstone. Where I was at around Big Sky was 95% white concrete.

If I reember right the hillclimb edition has the same front end as the MXZ--44" ski stance--could be why you are having issues trying to get it up on 1 ski.
I do not know why they did that? Stability on the hill I guess--but not ideal in my opinion for the mountians. The sway bar does not make the huge difference it us to make on the older sleds.

Yeah, I believe you're right. The hillclimb edition has a wider ski stance which would make it much harder to side hill. Can you switch the skis for a narrower stance on the hillclimb? I'm just curious, what made you get the hillclimb edition?

#1 check where the bars are and if they are more straight up, tip them back something like this
handlebars001.jpg

#2 is placement of you feet--the foot wells are deep but dont ride standing up with your feet up in the wells as they are 8" deeper on the xp for sit down comfort not stand up riding--
#3 set the limiter at next to the longest position
#4set the front track shock in the middle and run the back as weak as you can--
this should get you in the ball park---we just sold a 08 154 everest set like this and the buyer has not ridden in years and said it the easiest and funnest sled he has ridden--his buddy has a 09 m8 and liked the xp a LLLOT--he also said it way more fun than the m8--his words not mine:beer;:D

I have a hillclimb as well. Put the stance on the narrower setting and follow T/A's suspension guide. Pull the sway bar.

The trick is to move back on the sled. Tilt the bars back and keep your feet around mid seat and it will turn over much easier. If you stand infront of the bolts that mount the front arm of your suspension to the tunnel you are just adding more weight to the front of your sled. Stand closer to the front when you need stabilty. The xp is more rider sensitive than any chassis out there. The M cats and the poo's seem sketchy to me. You don't have the option of making your sled more stable by moving forward over the front of the rear suspension

This guy has it perfect. I have done everything he has done except adjusting the limiter strap. I can carve a figure 8 without switching legs over in 4-6 inches of fresh

The great thing about the XP chassis.... On hard pack,, it is very stable,, it's what you want... When you get it in many inches, or feet, of powder,, it will carve like nothing else... as it should be.. Give it a chance. Report back here when you get it in real snow.. You don't need to take the sway bar out.. You also need to ride this sled with your weight forward, when you are in the deep... True...

Most stuff on this post is really acurate. The only thing I woul say different is run your limiter all the way out (same as what was said) but adjust it as you feel works good for you.

I had to adjust my down one from all the way out 'cause of too much ski lift. I installed a challeger extreme and may have to suck it up one more notch. Not enough ski pressure on the trail and wheelies lots on the hills.

See what works for you and do some trial and error. Thats what i did.

Your ski stance is wider too as you know but if you remove your sway bar, or get the quick connects so you can remove on the fly, and try put your skies on the narrowest setting.

Try that! Have fun and enjoy!!!

Doo makes a quick disconnect for the sway bar. Part # 860200260 about $100. Easy to use and keeps the sway bar in place for the hard pack trail riding.:D

thanks for jumping on the band wagon.. traitor

Sorry!!! But a wise man once told me there can be a fine line between brand loyalty and brand ignorance.

Sounds like you need another sled for parts and a 975 engine, I happen to have one for sale! lol
