You should try setting of the machine at the airport that detects certain chemicals used in bomb making. I still don't know why I set it off, but I got a little nervous when the customs guy looked at the TSA guy and said " He's going to need a full body search" I'm not a religious man but I was praying for small fingers.
I cross almost weekly now and both sides have changed since 9-11. The best thing you can do is stay com and quite. If you open you mouth and spout off, you are done.
There are *** holes on both sides of the border and anyone that beeked off and made comments like "stay home all you stuipid Americans" is no better the Doc.

Look folks whe all make mistakes I have meet Doc before he is the nicest guy there is If your over in his neak of the woods he will take you riding any where you want to go and he opens up his home to you to dry your cloths if you want so he is not a *** like everyone on here thinks Whe all make mistakes and get pissed off when things dont go our way and voice are minds As far as crossing the borders I do it 5 times a week and yes I agree shut your mouth and be nice but I my self have lost my mind at the border The us side seems to be the worst but I have had a few problems with canada side also They have a job to do and yes it sucks sometime to have to put up with the crap but whe all do As far as you ****TALKERS on here why dont you pm DOC and meet him I promise you wont talk to much crap He is not that guy after he hands your teeth back to you He will probly taking you riding SO mouths take him up on his offer Stop with the tuff guy talk behind the keyboard our the saying says PUT UP OUR SHUT UP

This year is the first time I have been asked for a title to my sled when crossing the border. I tried to explain to the guy that we don't carry the title with us because if we do and we loose it, who ever finds it owns the sled for all intents and purposes. Like it has been said, crossing in either direction is a pain, but the inconsistancy is the biggest pain. I guess that's how they catch the bad guys

I would just like to say i think this is the best thread of the year!
man what a thread...l thought docs orignal post was ok...a bit of fustration that we all would have with being a little careless and perhaps not so well planned.....well as a Canadian...i sure hope no impressions are longlasting from alot of these posts...and i extend the same consideration for likewise issues across the border...man alive ..we are neighbours/friends/and family...not a loose dog pack with rabies tearing apart someones misfortune to come across our path.....

As for the point of this thread. If you have your paperwork in order and don't try to get across without paying any taxes that may be due, you shouldn't have a problem! I crossed with sled and gear...had no problems going to or coming back from the US. However, while in the US I did some shopping and made sure to declare it.
I cross a lot and have only been hassled on 2 occasions. For safe borders, I can accept that.
PS Togwotee was awesome...a pile of snow and only a handfull of people around to enjoy it!

I've breezed through both ways, I've been held up both ways. I've never left either side with the feeling the guard had some personal agenda, just a guy/gal doing their job. Plan for a small delay, have all your ducks in a row, and let them do their job.
That being said, I've always been amused by people who question other people's intelligence, yet have difficulty with composing a simple sentence. Makes a person question the validity of their "PHD".
