Border patrol sucks

what if the bank still owns the sled, i dont have a title?

glad i read this post , what do i need to cross the border?,( hopefully both ways)
we have been talking about going up that way
proof of ownership! ie registration OR title, and insurance doesn't hurt if you have it!

It's been 6+ years since I have crossed the border to enjoy Canada. I quit going because of the BS on the US side getting back home. Just simply wasn't worth the US interrogation anymore. Things must have changed on the Canadian side since then. All the past entrances I made into Canada were always easy but to the point. Always felt like they were glad to see me visit. It was the US side that was always the nightmare. I guess this is one more reason not to go.
i think a lot of it has to do with your(our) attitudes when talking to the border guys! we give them attitude, and they can give us HOURS of grief for nothing! for the most part, i've had no problems with either border, but every once in a while you get some guard with a stick up his arse that just wants to prove a point. the best course of action then is yes SIR, no SIR, and just get it over with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree, ive been through the border many times (6 moves to AK..and back). when i get to the border i am mr. niceguy. i figure it is their job to weed out any funny business. im glad i havent had any problems getting through.............so far

The best thing You can bring is a good attitude when crossing the border. Insurance papers, registration, bill of sale also help. I have been crossing the border 6 times per year for 3 years now with 2-3 sleds in my trailer and have never been in a hassle. Great to hear your coming up here the snow is deep, you will have a great time. Have fun

Their people that work the borders need a life. If you take your sled up to Canada make sure you have the title and bill of sale. At the border they had time to give us hours of **** so that I missed my plane from Cranbrook to Toronto; which cost their Canadian owned company 890 U.S dollars. My wife was staying behind to possibly look for property to buy to have another place I could ride from. I guess they don't need our money, but need our miltary to protect them. I like Canadian people but their government leaves room for improvement. I own and operate American and Canadian research companies. Periodically I fly to Toronto to help a pubilcally owned company that is working towards a signifcant reduction of green house gasses. Moral of the story, keep your money here in the U.S.A.

Yes you should keep your money in the States...you guys need it!!!!....Canada doesnt have any good riding anyways:p

Borders suck for both sides Doc. Granted I've been lucky many times without the necessary paperwork there are laws in place. For all they know your sled could be stolen and you're trying to hide it across the border.

I would expect the same going into America. I got held up for 6 hours this winter because I didn't have a passport or birth certificate. My fault, even though I had many other ways to prove my identity and citizenship, in the long run it's better they're vigilant.

I go to Canada all the time. I have had problems with both sides of the border. It is agent that makes the difference. If they are having bad day or they think something is up with you, they will hassle you. The last time I was up they made me bring in registrations on sleds and fill out paperwork, and return the same paperwork before leaving Canada. They wanted to make sure we weren't selling our sleds in Canada. If we didn't return the paperwork and let them check the sleds on the way back into US there would be a $1,000.00 fine. But as the agent told us it is up to their discretion to decide to get paperwork or not. I love riding in Canada

Doc for someone who claims to be an intelligent Yanky Doctor why would you try and cross our border with sleds without your proof of ownership. You screwd up not our border guards.Your country and all the fear is what started this border problem in the first place not us.BTW your military that you claims protects us was the VERY First to kill four of our own military in Afganastan in so called friendly fire.Get your facts straight and quit whining or just stay south of the border and like others said we will keep our powder for ourselves

Wow, so you had a bad day at the border... Nothing like bi!ching to the cook to make the meal better.

Personally, I think your rant comes off a bit personal towards those that most consider great friends and hosts. One would suspect that at your age (if you're a 'doc', you've got to be past your late 20's I suspect) you should be able to separate an individual personality....and an entire country. But maybe not.. Back to school you go.

Hmm. I always bring sled paperwork crossing the border. It's common sense. And who is your military protecting us from? We have a fine military, and it's working to help defeat your enemies in Afghanistan. Many Canadian soldiers have died and continue to die for what is, for all intents and purposes, an American cause.

There is no country named America. American refers to everybody living in North and South America. Please don't group the rest of us with the United States.

The term "U.S. American" should be used for now on.

Over the boarders many times. They have a job to do. Like a police officer, Game Warden or whoever in enforcement. Some have pesonality, some don't.

Best one so far was going to Canada on our bikes to Waterton. Friendly, joked around. Asked for all the documentation, we produced it. No problem.

Sorry you had problems Doc, but the people and the land are great, OK, except for a few on this forum that want to call you everyname in the book for expressing your frustrations.

Lets just all get along, I'm all about love. Peace Out Brothers and Sistas

Same attitude displayed at both check stations, different outcomes more than once.

Do your research prior to your trip and that goes for crossing into Canada and back into the States. As a doctor (whether you're a physician, veterinarian or PHD (Piled Higher and Deeper), you should be very familiar with the concept. Don't try to pass the buck when you're the one that didn't have the proper documentation.

These days, you have to be prepared for anything to happen at the border and that includes time delays and grumpy border guards. Guess what, they have the upper hand and there isn't a thing you can do about it other than turn around and go home.

F*&^ the US only go there to get messed on cheap booze

You are probably messed up on a constant basis anyway. Stay home you dick head. I have alot of friends in Canada. Great people, not like your sorry azz..... Did you just ****z yourself?

Mr. Doc needs to look in the mirror to see the problem. For every "boo hoo I got hassled at the Canadian border story", there's a "I got hassled at the US border story". I know a Chiropractor from California who had a busy practice for years who ended up stuck in Canada after a sledding trip because the US border said his paperwork wasn't in order.....stuck here for MONTHS. He eventually SNUCK across the border to get home.

Bingo....look in the mirror Mr. Doc! You are an embarrassment to us in the U.S.! ...and if you want to bad mouth any law enforcement or military personnel (including Canadian LE and military)....you can come say it to my face! That includes you too mxracer! We protect Canada? You care to explain that doc? You are a bright ray of light.

....and you azzholes stereotyping Americans and Canadians can go f*ck yourselves! There are idiots everywhere....Canada is not exempt of them and neither is the U.S......look at our damn President!

More reason in these 2 posts than the DOC's

Seems to me that they did not teach communication or decorum where you were educated Doc. Nothing to hide, a little courtesy and an ability to do your own due diligence would have avoided this silly tirade. One of my best friends is a world class sub atomic scientist. He crosses the border at least 10 times a month with out a NEXUS pass and has no problem. Mind you he does not arrogantly try to cross without his paperwork in order. Nice box of Crackerjacks ya found your PHD in! If you are not allowing time for border line ups then you are the one who failed not the border guard. LE has enough serious problems in this day and age. A whining uber educated moron is well a whining uber educated moron! Where is your tenure? they have made a grave error in giving you anything. Try kindergarden they like whining there!

Hey Doc do you fly to a different country without your passport and flight ticket? Do you drive your vehicle without your driver's license, registration, and insurance documents? I doubt it. Do your homework, get the paperwork, and go! It's just common sense.
