can someone explain to me how the boost controller and wastgate work? if its the wastgate you adjust what is the controller for? how do you adjust the wastgate and on the boost controller what is the minum amount you can run?? want to run 10 to 12 lbs but would like to know how to adjust

The boost controller restricts the pressure to the waste gate accuator allowing it not to open till the pressure is met if you didn't have it it would open right away if you just had the line hooked up. The lowest I believe Justin has it set at is around 8 pounds you can lower it with a diffrent waste gate accuator.

wastegate

If you have the billet Forge wastegate you should be able to go down to 5-6 psi boost levels depending on the internal spring. You adjust the controller to the desired boost pressure you want to run. Adjusting counter clockwise will allow less pressure to the waste gate creating more boost. If you adjust it all the way clockwise you will determine the least amount of boost you can run..... Make sure you have some pre-load on the waste gate actuator arm going to the waste gate, about one rod diameter.

Thanks for helping out everyone, I have been out west again Testing, with mininum phone service. Sorry If I missed your calls.

As for the boost controller, it only lets you raise the boost pressure. The wastegate actuator determines the minimum boost pressure you can run. Most standard garrett actuators are either 7psi or 14psi if they are the z bend rod ones. As stated before the boost controller bleeds off pressure to the actuator and lets you build more boost pressure before the wastegate opens and levels your boost pressure.

Thanks
Justin

went riding today for the first time on the turbo and with a little tuning on the boost mode got it to run good no bog if you just hammer down. turned the boost controller up but did not make any difference, went two full turns and thats it. and also when i slowly give it gas and it bogs out is that the acceleration mode i adjust? the wastgate i have does have a z rod looks like. but 10 lbs of boost is all it will go.

Justin is back nice, ask the man that knows! I got mine down to around six pounds adjusting the waste gate actuator rod then adjusted up from there with the boost controller.

Let me throw out a dumb question. Can a person determine how adjusting is happening in relation to the click on the boost knob. What is an easy way to find out how much boost is being built?

I'm not running a boost controller at all. I simply adjust the LENGHT of the ACTUATOR ROD. Its not as friendly to change boost levels, but I set it for 13lbs and GO! one less thing to go wrong. When you change the lenght of the actuator rod, you change the limit of travel on the gate. Shorten the rod - increase the boost. Vice Versa.

My first turbo didn't even have an diaphram actuator. It just used a spring on the actuator rod with a thumbwheel to tighten or loosen it. Worked ok but had big boost changes with elevation. 1994 xlt ATS fuel injected turbo. 16lbs boost.
