Big Sky MT????

I will be spending a week for vacation in Big Sky. Never been there and want to take my sleds. Any info on places to ride would be greatly appreciated. Do not want to drive really far from Big Sky, and looking for good hill climbing or good boon docking.
Thanks Nik

do a search someone just asked this a couple weeks ago Buck Ridge turnoff is a mile south of Big Sky turnoff all the riding you can handle

anyone know of anywhere descent to stay here? I figured there would be a ton of resorts for skiers but them get pretty spendy

Kinda pricey but probably less than ski hill:
Buck’s T-4, about half mile south of Big Sky turnoff. 800-822-4484 buckst4.com.
320 Guest Ranch 12 miles south (nice log cabins). 320guestranch.com. 800-243-0320 (we usually stay there. Comp breakfast.)
Rainbow Ranch, 5 miles south, across road from Corral.
Corral Steakhouse and Motel, 5 miles south, less pricey, (trailhead to Buck Creek Ridge.) 888-995-4249

You can also access Buck Cr. trail a couple miles south of Big Sky near schoolhouse. Small parking on east side of road. Or larger lot by Corral Bar-trailhead. About 15 miles south is road about 3 miles in to Taylor Fork/Carrot Basin parking lot. Great riding. (can also park in lot by highway and ride in)
You could always stay at West Yellowstone and drive 10 miles from there to Big Sky Trail or drive up 35 miles to Taylors.

Buck Creek is really easy to find. Drive south on 191 from Big Sky, pull into the parking lot just south of the Corral Bar. Be sure to get there around 8:30 am. You can't miss it, it's the lot that looks like they are having a Metallica concert on the hill. Be sure to bring chains, you may have to baja out of the lot because there are about 100 trucks parked in it in no particular order. Also, make sure you bring a video camera so you can capture all the hilarious antics of the parking lot cowboys racing their sleds as fast as possible from end to end while giving you the stinkeye as you try not to stare. Don't bring earplugs, you will want to hear the glorious rumble of the aftermarket silencers that register just a shade over 200 decibels.:face-icon-small-con Then, make sure to check your six every ten seconds on the trail to the hill just in case one of the afforementioned cowboys is in a hurry to get to his super secret spot and needs to pass you. Another thing, when you ride the trail, make sure to approach all corners with reckless abandon and take them wide and fast! Oh yeah, and when you get stuck, make sure to summon every available soul to your current location, no matter what! Ahhh yes, Buck Creek...awesome.
Sorry, had an interesting day.

April can be good...

Trip got moved to first week in April:( will their still be some good riding this late in the year?

This may be a blessing in disguise. Usually the crowds have died down by then and there can be some amazing riding in April. It is completely weather dependent, but isn't it always? Below are some pics from April 18th, 2009 or 10:

So we have heard about Buck Creek, any other close spots we should hit while their. I want to get all the ridding in I can if I am going to pay for the diesel and pull all 4 sleds down there.

There's all the riding you can have around big sky. Like aebsledder said, the crowds die down and still get good amounts of snow in sw mt in April and may. The snowiest month is march in big sky. Imo it's the best time to ride. My sickiest days have been in April. Last year I rode south plateau with like 32" of snow overnight and that was the beginning of April. The snow can get low down in elevation during this time but up high its still great.

Speaking of snow...you are really getting screwed on your timing this year aren't you?

No good riding in the spring...I would recommend you guys put em away for the year...lol. Rode Cooke last year April 30 & may 1...maybe best rides all year, place was a ghost town and pow was deep!
