Best year for the 700 RAW?

My list of mods so far and a few pics.....

New Gauge
New windshield bag
New windshield
New tether
New Goldfinger
New skid plate
New handlebar bag
New underseat bag
New footwell vents
transfered QRS bag from 900 (with base I took off my Edge 800)
transfered shovel bag from 900
Re-installed idler wheels to save the hyfax

Just need to change out the old gas in the tank, and a new fuel filter to install:D:D

I'm not even sure where the oil pump is on this motor as of yet, and haven't figured out how to pull the airbox either... I have more research to do on a few things...lol... New fuel filter is on the bench ready to go on as soon as I suck the old gas out and a ground strap sounds easy enough to do.... After I get a chance to ride it (hopefully next weekend) I will decide where to go from there... I know I need to order a 42T bottom gear to gear down and I have an SLP pipe kit spotted... Also eager to see how the clutching feels so I know where to go from there... currently has the black 140/330 spring and 10-62s I believe.

Nice find! Looks awesome. I was going to reply to your question about putting in the analog/digital gauge but you already figured that out. I did the same thing on my 07 600 RMK, I found a used one on line about 3 years ago, paid 50 bucks for, and the mileage was within 469 of mine. my buddy has an 05 900 also, I found him an 09 700 just like yours with 542 miles on it, for $6200, but he passed on it. I wasn't sure why until our first trip in dec, when he picked up a new pro LOL.

Anyways, the sled looks awesome, you will have to let us know how you like it compared to your 9, I think you will find working on this is much easier than the 900 LOL.

Seth, you might want to find out HOW exactly to identify the 2nd version of the SLP pipe and can kit for the 700 CFI if you plan on buying a used pipe. I know the performance difference is huge and acknowledged by Chris and Jack at Carls.

Sled looks good.

I have the original version on mine. I think the newer version came with a spacer that goes between the Y pipe and the pipe, so I would think that the pipe would be a little shorter on that end. There may be other ways to figure it out....

Here is a pic of the original version installed (the muff pot kind of hides the Y pipe to pipe connection, sorry)

I went straight to the source, there has been only one version of the SLP single pipe systme for the stock 2007 to 2010 700 CFI engine. Do not confuse the other two SLP 700 CFI pipes that were individually designed for the Performance Edition engine package and the SLP 777 kit.

Carls recommends the porting designed pipe or as you call it the performance edition pipe for the non-ported 700 CFI motor. They work real good.

diamonddave or richracer, Do either of you know if the spacer was a SLP part or if it was something Carls was making? I know guys were buying them from Carls. I wish I could find the old threads (old forum) that showed and had the part number listed.

Great conversation guys.. :beer;:beer;:beer;

Morsno.... What's your secret to getting/keeping your pipe THAT shiney?:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-coo

Actually that picture is from a few years ago. It still looks pretty good though with fresh cleanings with mothers aluminum polish, the rest of the engine gets Protectant 303 treatments each spring and fall. It does have a few stains from snirt (snow + dirt) from creek crossings and a hot pipe, but that adds character.

I'm not sure about that. I only know that the later pipe (as it was referred to me) is what we used setting up an 08 700 stock motor. I woiuld ask Chris Kasel to know for sure.

The only thing I can think of is if Carl's Cycle is selling the "Performance Edition" pipe for use on a stock 700 CFI, a spacer of some may be needed as I believe the "Performance Edition" pipe system from SLP comes with a new Y pipe to match the porting done on the cylinders. The SLP y-pipe may me a little longer than the OEM y-pipe.

The year I got my 700 I called carl's to order up one of their clutch kits. After telling them my basic setup which included a what I believe is a newer slp single pipe and can and a slp big air intake, they sent me their y-pipe spacer along with the clutch kit. Although hard to tell, it felt like it added some throttle response and let the engine breathe a little easier.

Seth, here's a little trick I did so the exh valve vent hose doesn't spew oil all over the belly pan. It will still drip a little on the trailer/garage floor, but stops the mess inside of your engine compartment. There's little hole down in there just to the side of the exhaust heat shield that I filed out just enough to hold the hose somewhat tight.

I bought my wife a demo 09 700RMK with ES last year.I have since added WRP running boards,an SLP pipe and can combo[paid 350 NIB].Sled came with the 5 1/4" riser some come 3 1/4.Sealed up the headlite and adjuster.Greased the ski to spindal bolts and set it as narrow as possible.Swapped out the clear windshield for my stk black dragon shield. This is a fun gas and go reliable sled.It now has exactly 1000 truble free miles and pulls hard and is a fun sled too ride.I swapped back and forth from my new 2012 Pro and still like the 700.The SLP pipe does give a small increase as I have raced it against my 2 buddies 700 RMK's[ an 09 and an 08] and it usually pulls a sled lenght ahead.Sounds much cooler as well.Your going to retire that heavy 900 after a day on the 700

First ride Yesterday went off without a hitch! The sled ran really strong and was very light and nimble compared to my 900. There is a bit of a reduction in power and flotation with the smaller 700 and the torque the smaller motor offers is obviously less, but there is just something about this sled that makes it an absolute hoot to ride! :D It makes nice power on the top end with no lag waiting for the motor to spool up, but that's where it likes to be run.... a little different from the extremely broad powerband and monster torque I am used to, but don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining....

Yesterdays ride turned out to be in deeper than usual conditions and I was still impressed with the performance of the sled in everything but 'straight-up' power... She's a great ride and I am VERY happy with my purchase....:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Full ride report here..... http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=293002

I also was watching my RPMs and it was pulling about 8600 on the packed trail and around 8400 in a deep snow climb... track speed on the climbs was in the high 30s with a peak on the deep snow climb of 42 mph which I was VERY happy to see! No complaints there... As I said, snow conditions were pretty deep for what we normally have here so I think this was a GREAT test ride to see what she was made of and I am smiling ear to ear:) Thanks to everyone for all your input on these 700s, it certainly EXCEEDED my expectations!:beer;

Oh ya, Really liking the SLP pipe I threw on it from Richracer1... Thanks man:beer;:D

Or you could just block off the hoses by removing the "T" and inserting a 2" piece of threaded stock. Allows exhaust valves to open sooner.

When SLP had my engine installing their 777 kit in it, I asked them about plugging the exhaust valve hoses. The told me all of their R&D for the 777 kit was done with the hoses connected and operating like Poo designed and have never done any testing with them plugged - so I'll stick with the configuration that my big bore was designed & tested with.

I had a 900 159 with different exhaust, intake, etc, etc. I bought a 2010 700 155, and found I would rather spend the day on it than my 900. Even with all the mods to the 900, I still find the 700 more fun to ride. I do, however, sometimes miss the torque the big 9 made. I kept my 700 stock with the exception of venting, better boards, 19-42 gearing, hps can. I love it.

I think as you get used to the 700 more, you will want to ride the 900 less and less. I had over 3500miles on my 900 when I finally got rid of it. Jesse
