i have a 24 just out of break in, it has a 165 2.75 in track, is it worth messing with the clutching for the average mountain rider? i just got back from togwotee where the guide said a clutch kit is like a new machine but this sled already climbs like a billy goat.

If i decide to clutch it who is the goto for mountain clutching? anyone with a similar machine have some insight? if it matters im 6-2 and 300lb suited up.

Make a couple good pulls on a hill, make sure you look at rpm, if you are pulling 82-8400 that's good. Now stop right away and pull belt cover, if you can hold the belt and secondary without it feeling uncomfortable hot then you have a good working clutch set up. Some of the factory machines have pretty good clutching now out of the box.

I have a 22 805 and am a similar weight. Kurts performance has a greats set up, been running theirs since 2015. I might add i am also ruining their gear down kit

If you want your clutches to run smooth send them to us to balance...it does make them act and feel lighter just a balance...just more efficient...less wear and tear...

Take a look @ SRP - Seinen Racing Products. Their cluthcing paired with the Kurts geardown absolutely rips.

There's almost always something to gain in clutching, but you may not need it - or even want it, if you get a kit that's not well-matched to you. That's why it's good to work with someone who can mix and match components for what you need (TRS is good), as opposed to a one-size-fits-all kit. Your size is a big part of that: I'm guessing Polaris sets their clutch setup for a ~200lb rider. One thing guaranteed to benefit you is making sure your clutch setup is dialed in (alignment, belt-to-sheave clearance, and balance). Polaris does little (if anything) to verify that, so some sleds are pretty far out. The more wonky sleds will gain more from dialing in the clutch than anything, but some clutching on top of that can make a big difference too.

thanks guys, im going to pick up a alignment tool and see how the clutch alignment is. i know im larger than what polaris sets the machines up for thats why i thought a kit might be in order.
ill have to wait till next year to check the rpm its running at right now as i wont make it out west again this year, i was hoping maybe there was someone selling kits customized for the mountain riders with the long tracks as a kit for a 850 vr1 would be worthless.

Don’t the 22’s come with QD2? Are you running Kurt’s gearing instead of QD2?

Yes i am running kurts gearing and clutching. works great. ran the same set up on my last poo as well.
