Best bang for your $ xp mods

Hey guys what are the best mods you can do to an xp 800. I don't want anything crazy but would like a few more ponies. I was thinking of getting a head and some happy gas.

Save the money for the happy gas IMO. It is hard to make nitrous run well on an xp and if you do succeed in actually boosting the power when on the button and being able to leave it down for 30 seconds, then clutching is a fricken nightmare because you can either be underweighted on nitrous or overweighted off nitrous or try to hit a happy median and never be right.

JMO but I would focus on getting your clutching spot on and if you want more after that send me a PM and I will get you hooked up.

Jake

After doing all the common inexpensive "mods" to several XP's we ride with....the clutching is the "biggest bang" by far. Stock engine with proper clutching will outclimb a sled with head/pipe.
Every XP we ride with that did all the "mods", ended up doing the clutching before the end of the season when they got tired of getting whooped by the stockers.

Agreed,X2.

From my little bit of experiences testing summit models regardless of stock or aftermarket "muffler"

1)*great clutch kit* stock engine
2)*great clutch kit* head
3)*great clutch kit* head n exhaust pipe (package)

I keep a tally going in my shop of aftermarket stuff I see. I know the numbers of what my clutch kit is being married to for
i)customers
ii)guys who have a small perf shops on the sidelines
iii)dealers
They who install my clutch kits, (this is only my own tally of people I correspond with) there are more SLP pipe/head packages that go onto these sleds than all the other aftermarket put together.
Example heads - 14 terra alps, 19 dynoport, 8 mots, 77 slp, 4 DnD...etc
One guy who works out of his garage in Lamont AB put 14 SLP packages on summits alone and married my clutch kit to it, never mind the other guys down in USA.

Getting a great head is well....just great.

here's my plan, SLP head, Y pipe, HPS can. Get rid of the POS CPI can, what a joke. I was gonna get the whole SLP kit but there pretty proud of them and I didn't really want to go with porting. (recent bad experience). Anyone else think this is a good combo? Dynamo joe, can you hook me up with a clutch set up? send me a pm.

Hi Hiterhard
Clutch kit c/w 160/350 primary spring, pin kit, QR11 helix, calibration sheet.
Reg price $265 CDN ($246USD)
Sale on right now $235 CDN ($218 USD)
+$25 ship
...not bad little upgrade.

You can fill out this form and I can get you going.

Right now I am working and won't be able to get a kit going until next Wed or Thursday when I get back. Trying to catch up, sent a bunch of kits out today....guys are starting early - I envy you. heh heh...

Thanks
Joey

My friend and I have the same year XP's, mine is stock with a can.
His sled first got a can and a clutch kit from a very popular S.W. member, it was a complete p.o.s. performance was poor, it just hit harder at a lower rpm. I also towed him out twice from his clutch breaking(parts that came in the kit). He later went back to a stock clutch and added a SLP pipe and high compression head, this was a huge improvement over stock and when riding his sled back to back with mine it was amazing.
I am adding the same mods to my sled for this year.

That is too bad. Can you let others know who's clutch kit you are referring to? Hate to see others waste there money. Did you guys let this very poplular S.W. member know about the problem? The DJ and Rooster Built kit's seem to be the tried and trued set-up's as far as clutching goes.

Get a head from Trygstad motorsports. Tune your clutch. Lighten your sled as you can afford it. The lighter you make your sled the faster and farther you will climb. If you lose 15-25 lbs off the xp it will make a huge difference. I recommend Fox floats for shocks. As well as Timbersled A-arms and a Timbersled mtn tamer rear suspension. My sled is 490lbs. full of fuel and all fluids. It is amazing how well it climbs and handles with that huge weight loss.

It wasn't me who purchased it or dealt with the seller so I'm not going to post his name. However, I did have a personal interest because I had to tow his a$$ out when the damn thing would break. Hopefully the seller (considered one of the best on here) has updated the cotter pins that came with his kit, the early ones were too thin and would break or come out causing catostophic failure to the entire primary.

I had the cotter pins on a dalton weight kit break on me. two of the three came out and pretty much destroyed the primary. I tried fixing it because I did not want to spend the money to get a completly new one, but after having vibration problems and the bushing comeing out of the limiter cup a few times I said screw it and bought a completly new primary. driving several hours to sled and having the clutch go out after a few miles is not exactly fun.
dealer would not warranty it because I had put a clutch kit in it. I don't completly blame them because the clutch was destroyed because of the piece of **** cotter pins that came in the dalton clutch kit. When I installed them I thought they were pretty cheesy, but figured dalton had ben in the business a long time and knew what they were doing. I use nothing but the oem ski doo cotter pins now and have not had any problems. The gauge of metal on the ski doo cotter pin is about 3 times as thick as the piece of **** dalton ones.
Every one do your self a favor and order some extra oem (or any good cotter pin) cotter pins and throw the thin *** dalton cotter pins in the garbage. I wish I could shove them up daltons ***.
I got a weight kit from team also and it was way better then the cotter pins in the dalton kit, but not as good as oem.
less then a $1 worth of cotter pins ruined a $1400 retail complet primary assembly.
