Belt Warranty on XP's.... HUmmm

Ok SO how many of you have broke or shredded belts on these XP'S? Did your dealer hand you a new belt when you took it in?
I recently took in a belt, thought that it would be ok sorry here's your new one. And Id be on my way! Not the case at all.. What Kind of crap is this, "We have to send it in and be sure that they are going to warranty it" I have read the release from ski doo, It is cut and dry.. XP has a problem with heat and cluctching and is to warrenty Belts until there is a fix! So I call another dealer and ask.. They said bring it in, Well give ya a new one we have plenty in stock! I guess someone else wants my money! I buy a new sled almost every year. The one who takes care of me the best will get my money! They also told me that they would Fix gearing and clutching under WARRENTY for FREE!! If you spent that Money for an XP, They Better make it right! We need to remind those dealers who arent that its our money that pays their bills!
Anyway Lets See which dealers are good for it! Who has been handed a new belt when they went in with a broken one from there XP? Which Dealers Are we gonna spend our money at?
Dont get me wrong I love My XP! It Is by far the most amazing sled ive ever ridden.. I Just think that we all deserve better dealer Support with our issues!:beer;

Shane, I agree with you 100%, and I think that I know of the dealer your refering to. The problems that you are having are the same ones that we all had last year with the 07's and to me it seems that there should be a standard method of how the dealerships are handling these cases. Instead of the oh I know that guy guy, he's cool or not approach some of them have.
Believe me that next year when I purchase my new sled that all this will be taken in to account and the dealer that you are refering to is going to have to kiss some serious butt to get me to buy a sled there again.

Yup... For sure. Hey I know why they call you Uno.. Does that help out your sidehilling? LOL.. anyway Man how ya been feelin' Havnt got to ride with ya yet this year..

I just got told my sled has no warrany, NONE! 'Cause I bought in the US. And like I said before, the lady at BRP was a total Bit(h on the phone!

Anyone want to warranty my belts???

That's a gooder! Im feeling OK? Pretty weak these days after all the chemo that I went through. I actually sold my sled a couple of weeks ago . I just decided after my last time up that this season was a wasted one for me and I want an XP next year. So unless you know of anyone who might have an extra sled to ride for a day im done. ( WINK! WINK!) Hope we can hookup soon! Heard you laid down some big bucks this year. Nice! Hope we can gat together soon.

I don't know what the deal is. I think it's just another way to get out of warranty claims.

They are made in canada and shipped to the US, so I just brought it back here and BRP says there is no warranty. I bought it used too! But BRP says it's not going to be used till it's the year 2009!? WTF!?

Who knows.........

Have had 5 over the counter transactions. Hand them a bag with cords, get a new one. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you bought your sled from Gonason's.

.....Am I correct?

I have returned 2 166 belts that were pulling cords and had both replaced free of charge, still have a third one that I'm gonna try and trade for the 377 when they get them. wish me luck....

didn't replace my Gates or Ultra Max (and didn't even ask) but the Doo belt, just take in and they handed me a new one

I have had two 166's replaced under warranty. No questions asked. Told them miles and vin number and was handed two new ones.

Not all dealers are replacing the belts w/o questions.
A local dealer said they would replace 1 and only 1 belt.
Anyone have a copy of the bulletin from Ski Doo saying they will replace any and all belt failures?

Question......

If you buy a new belt over the counter from a dealer weather it be BRP, Ultimax, Gates or whatever. Does the belt not carry any warranty???

I know in BC, if we buy a Dayco from lordco auto parts, the belt carries a warranty. I haven't bought one from them in a while but I think it's still the same deal. My dealer says no warranty on my belts, blown or not. But at $150 bucks a peice, it gets pricey.

get a different dealer or go some where else.
I have only blown one belt on my m7/8 with around 850 miles on belt. It was a carlisle ultimax xs (one year warranty). sent it in and a check for $10 return shipping and had a new belt in a month.
stock 166's were lasting 30 miles. I put a xs 803 on and it lasted a 100 miles. A little over a week. So I waited a couple more weeks and am sending it in today. Still don't know what they are going to think when it only lasted 3 weeks they think. I thought about putting down on the warranty card that it was on a older rev and not a new xp. I don't know if they will warranty it or not. If I were them I probably wouldn't. Why should they warranty belts for doos screw up. Hopefully I get a new xs803 back. If I do I will buy another xs803 to install when my DJ clutch kit shows up and run xs803's.
I have a brand new 166 and one on the sled right now. It has 180 miles on it now that I have geared the sled down, but we have not had the bottom less pow like we did a few weeks ago when I was going threw belts like crazy. When the 166 goes out I will probably warranty it and sell both the 166's as they seem to not work worth a ****.

So the xs 803 belts are working good??? I have yet to try one and if the brp belts are no waranty I will try the xs 803.

well when we had the deep bottom less powder here for about 2 weeks. I started pulling cords on stock 166 at 17 miles and done at 30 miles. cut and burnt cord 4 times before it finally filled my sled with cord after a long pull.
stock belt was leaving rubber all over the sheaves and slipping.
put a xs 803 on and went a little over 100 miles on it before completly blowing to pieces. not a piece left over few inches. it did seem to work a bit better and did not leave rubber all over the sheaves. Put a 166 back on and it was leaving rubber all over the sheaves again and started pulling cord at 20 miles.
I geared it down to a 19 from the 21 on my 154. Put a stock belt on and have gone 180 miles now. It is not leaving rubber all over the sheaves any more. Of course ever since I put the 166 and 19 tooth on we have not had the bottom less like before so I have not ben nearly as hard on it as the previous belts, but still seems to be doing alot better with the 19t on it.
Can't wait for DJ's clutch kit to show up.
Another guy I know was going through 166's like crazy. He put a 803 on and geared down to a 19 and has over 300 miles on it as far as I know.

The 166 belts only measure 1 3/8" wide. the xs803 is just barely under 1 1/2"

Yep, the "dealer" Shane is taliking about has warranty'd both my belts. just frayed another one this weekend. Those 166'ers are bad. My 253 belt shows no sign of wear. :D:eek:

Outstanding dealer-Specialty Recreation

No questions asked is an understatement. I dropped my sled off to have the handwarmers done and mentioned the belt on my machine had a cord showing. No problem. They warrantied and changed the belt for me, changed the weights on my clutch, updated the handwarmers, checked the oil adjustment, fixed a bolt that was rubbing the track, and welded up my driveshaft as a preventative measure.

Unfortunately not all dealers are created equal....however outstanding customer service will not be forgotten. Specialty Recreation in CDA Idaho has earned my seal of approval. :):D
