Belt Drive Failure

Status
Not open for further replies.
What happen to the thread that was floating around Sunday night with pictures of the stripped belt on the belt drive? I seen it is gone from FB as well. ??

The original person that posted the thread deleted it himself.

There were no details... where it happened, if it was an earlier photo, what conditions etc or if it even was an actual customers sled.

It might be a spoof... I know one of the people that was running the demo tour for the 2013's personally and they did not have any stripped belts with all the abuse that they put the sleds through.

Is it possible, yes... Is it probable... no.

Don't jump to conclusions...

I hate to speculate. But did poo stay with the same exact belt they were running last year on the demos and prototypes? Belts like these are typically very strong, but you can get different grades. . . etc.

I know of two that were stripped. Let's just say that there is a reason that a certain someone runs his turbos in Assaults and not RMKs.

Glad to see it was a good idea to keep my sled for another year. :face-icon-small-hap
Sure they might have a few issues but guess, what with such a great idea for a factory sled they are sure to have a few of these belts go. Maybe from ice build-up or maybe a frozen track, maybe some bad belts. Who knows . I hope it gets figured out as it's a very simple set-up.

TRUTH---I did...after being attacked and receiving a hateful email on the subject...it was also suggested that the picture was fake by others.

FLAT OUT LIE...the details were posted last night....still there...on a stock sled....climbing a hill...belt went.

were they riding protypes with your Polaris buds or the production sled?

Based on what? Your personal relationship with Polaris?

Don't jump to conclusions...

Yes please stop jumping to conclusions!

Baffles me why Snowest would want to try and push away a potential issue. Hopefully it was just a defective belt and only on a few of them. Now there is a report of two more stripped belts....or is he lying too?

I would say for running different gearing ratios...but I dont know who this certain person is your are referring too.

don't any of you guy's drive bikes with belts instead of chains? I myself broke a drive belt on my victory, bike only had 9000 miles on it. Dealer showed me where something sharp had riped it most like a rock. I just can't believe there is going to be much of a problem. Some will break but I think most will be just fine.

Belts beak cogs off, minor damage. Chain busts and breaks chaincase and most likely wrecks gears and chaincase cover. I'd rather have to change a beltthen having to get a new chaincase/cover/gears/ chain, etc. Just be happy it is just going to be a belt replacement then a whole chaincase assembly.

Who knows, hoping it was just a defective belt or some ice got in there and shredded the cogs. Polaris didn't say there never was going to be a belt failure. All brands, types of sleds have problems. This one just had to happen to you.

--If belts are breaking due to tolerances, maybe they need a wider belt and maybe a belt tensioner.

--Clutch drive belts certainly come in varying lengths and dimensions under the same part number, a tensioner for the drive belts could make up for this

--Also, would be a lot better if Polaris installed the brake rotor on the trackshaft instead of the jackshaft, especially if a belt broke or stripped -- yikes!!

Just gonna throw this out there... If any of you '13 owners don't feel comfortable with your belt drive anymore, I will trade you straight up for my '12 and your mind will be at ease again. I'm here to help! PM me if interested... if you want to roll the dice, feel free :face-icon-small-coo lol

LMAO ! For all of those who think the ski is falling. Gotta Love It!

Spare

Sounds like it's a good thing I went to college, got me a degree, and have a spare 2012 with a chain case sitting around:)

Although, I seriously hope they turn out to be somewhat reliable...

I mean, would Polaris ever put out anything that they knew wasn't up to PAR:face-icon-small-win Ha, that's laughable at best:face-icon-small-ton

I second tdblakes!

I got a 09 600rmk- its one of the most reliable sleds on the face of the planet. If you want to trade your unreliable 2013 for my trusty 600 lemme know! :D

Also, dizz I wish you wouldn't have deleted it, I think it would be refreshing to shame those who were dumb enough to question your credibility and prove them wrong that it was in fact a real belt stripped. I would rather know what happened than just yell OMG ITS FAKE

I talked to guy that rode one that had a few missing cogs. Ended up being completely stripped by the end of their demo day. Still made it back to the trailer. Wasn't fun and there was definitely performance loss but it didn't leave them stranded either.
