Bear paw ridge run

Geez... I better get working on the booby trap and get it installed in my parking spot. Well maybe I can just bring more beer. Last time I ran out long before I could get my truck out.:)

Thanks for putting the map on here!

The only diffrence is we are going to run through lower bear paw and not all the way around the road. We will have the person at the lower bear paw excelsior y stopping people if there should be anyone wanting to come down that road. That way we only have traffic running one way on that section of the road.

I will be up marking the trail on Jan 31st. And running the gps. This way if anyone wants to run the course they can. The course is getting a little bigger. Once you come from the ridge and drop down into church. You then will have to drop down to the lower lake and go through the woods and around.

Rode part of the course this weekend. Would of done the whole thing but one of the guys had a rev 800 and couldn't make one of the hills. So I guess if anyone who is planing on doing this make sure your not on a skidoo cause it wont make it. LOL.
Hopefully we get some more snow by the time of the run. I will be marking the trail so who ever wants to ride along is welcome.

Who's planing on being who's partner? If its nice it was suggested that we get a chopper to fly for video. This could turn into a big thing. I know there is going to be some crashes I just hope knobody gets hurt!!

If somebody couldn't make it up there on an 800 this past weekend, that must be SOME hill. There was mega traction on Baker this weekend. I saw old guys on 500's going everywhere.

He could only get about 3/4 of the way up. I was just joking about the skidoo thing though. My partner might be ridding one.
Anyone else have any request before the course is set. Holz is asking that we don't groom the road section. Probably cause he is one of the fastest guys I have ever seen on a rough road. We have other request to extend it down through kidney lake after you drop into the church bowl.

We're going to need some clarification on this story, (Year of sled, the rest of the story...Etc. why couldn't it make it up the hill?) some of us only ride little stockers:p

Bear paw is on the Canyon Creek rd. The road turns off the Mt. Baker hwy about three miles out of Glacier Wa. If that still doesnt help its about 45min from Bellingham Wa. towards Mt. Baker ski area.

Heading up this sat to mark the course. Providing the conditions are safe. We are suppose to get new snow this week but it might be dangerous ontop of the snow we currently have.

The accident that happend yesterday is a good reminder for everyone not to go over ANY hill up there that they dont know whats on the other side. Hope John is ok. Never met the guy but I drove his truck down for him last night. For those who don't know what happend he went over one of the ridges in the area of where our route is going to go. He went down 1000 to 1500ft in elevation. Ended up having a chopper ride to the hospital.

It might be to icy to mark the route tomorrow. I will be up there getting the sled out that went over the ridge. So if the snow is ok I will run the route and mark it. Plus I will take a Gps.

bear paw

Just got back from bear paw.Was nice and sunny this morning ..then the clouds and sleet/rain came in. FYI The first hill you come to after the groomed trail ends is ICE!!! You will want to veer to the right of that if you plan on making it up! Good Luck...and may the Force be with you......ALWAYS!

We ran the loop today and looked for the wrecked sled but didn't see it anywhere. A couple of faces slid about 6" deep. The south facing peaks were icy in spots. But it great snow on all the north facing stuff.

Hey Chicken, off topic but my brother and I have tried to make an Excelsior to Bald Mt loop a couple of times but ended up with mechanical issues both times (wasn't fun trying to climb out of there on one cylinder). I know one guy has made it to the same spot from both directions but not sure if anyone has made the whole way around yet. Figured you've tried it or made it. Awesome country back there. Any thoughts?
