Bear paw ridge run

Workout

Conrad, I'll ride with you, but you better start working out now for all the digging your going to have to do for me. By the way did you hear the Big Dawg Shootout was cancelled. Are we still going to ride up there that weekend. Later, Kyle .

2zeros,
Yeah I am the president of the Whatcom county snowmobile club. This ride though might not have anything to do with the club. So far its not. Depends on if the club gets insurance by that time. If not we are doing it anyway. I will organize it by myself if I have to but I am sure I will have help. I have alot of friends that are like family in the sled community.

This is not final but how I think the rules are going to go.
The start is going to be staggered. Times will be written down and recorded as each group leaves. Each group will have some sort of number to iditify them easily and quickly.
Two riders will leave Bear paw at the same time. They will stop at each check point and get a punch or grab some sort of a flag. There will be a person at each check point to make sure both riders arrive together and that one is not on to the next stop. After all the stops are made its back to the lake for a time. There is no class for sleds! Mod / stock what ever you have bring. This type of event is not all about who wants to put twenty or thirty grand into their sled and then just squezze the throttle. Alot of its going to be up to the rider.

Someone asked about a prize. Not sure yet. But either money or a trophy.

For those who have not been through this route I don't want to scare anyone away when I said its not for inexperienced riders. I have been through this route numerous times solo and even solo in the dark. But I also have seen some good wrecks back there depending on the snow conditions. I call it tornado alley! The main thing is just use your head and pay attention!! There are alot of places that if you loose your sled its going to be a yard sale and someone could get hurt. I have taken first time riders through but I always let them know. Don't just go shooting off any hill espicially on the ridge itself. There are some drops that are from twenty feet to a couple hundred feet.

This is a great idea I have ridden this area for years and we do not have to worry about mod/stock classes. This will not be a drag race it will work great with two riders.

Format?

I have thought of this a lot. I thought an ISDE type format would be cool. I wouldn't want to see someone get hurt because four dudes are racing down a road to be the first to the check. Then they run somone over or hit their sled. What I mean by the ISDE format would be "special tests" where the rider is timed. The rider with the least amount of time in the "tests" is the winner. The rest of the event would just be keeping on a schedule, like an enduro, with time added for early or late arrivals to the checks. The people who ride dirtbikes could help out here with details here. The special tests could be a controlled area where the trail is one way, and only people who are in the event run it. I guess all of my thoughts make this a very labor intense event, for the people who put it on. I just wish there was an easy way to get it done. I am in no way tring to change your event, just very excited to see somone else with the same ideas as I have. Also a pre-registration would be a plus. The people who sign up first, get first pick of the start times. I think you should have a "donation" each rider will give to the club that puts it on. Good Luck, I hope this will happen! I will volunteer to be a sweep after the event. But in no way would I want to miss it! -00's

I'll ride with ya Conrad!

Or would that be an unfair advantage?;)

I know... we could give evey one a head start, or we could ride blind folded:face-icon-small-hap

Sounds like fun!

An other idea, lets have an avy beacon hunt. Hide a beacon some were at a check point so each team has to find the becon before they can continue
to the next check point.

With in the next couple weeks we will mark the route in the tree's. This way everyone has time to come and check it out.

Pre-regist. is a good idea. Then we know how many people are going to be involved.

why doesn't someone post a Google Map (print Screen) of what the "proposed route". WOuld be helpful for sure.

Maybe you can let people know when you are going to go up and GPS the course so they could get a once through run to learn the course. That would be helpful for people who've only been there a few times or not at all.

Gps

Hey Conrad its supposed to be sunny tommorrow. Randy, Scott, Mark and I are gonna head up Ill see if I can figure out this Garmin and get some kind of bread crumb going.......... Sun??
